Captricity Announces the Public Launch of API at Code for America Demo Day
API creates seamless paper-to-digital-data workflow
BERKELEY, Calif., Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Captricity (http://captricity.com) announces the public release of its API. Captricity's web-based data entry technology captures handwritten data from paper documents, transcribing it into digital, structured spreadsheets and data sets. The announcement comes today at the Code for America Demo Day.
"When Captricity first launched, users could access its technology only through our web portal," said Kuang Chen, founder and CEO of Captricity. "Recent integrations with a number of cloud-based services have taken the technology one step closer to a goal now fully realized with the release of the API: integrating Captricity seamlessly into end-to-end processes bridging paper-based workflows and digital data processing."
The just-launched RESTful API can pull images of paper documents from almost any source and push digital data into databases, websites, and apps, making Captricity's award-winning service an integrated part of a complete data management solution.
Captricity was one of seven start-ups selected to participate in Code for America's four month Accelerator program, and the Demo Day is a chance for each to share its product with investors and civic leaders. The Accelerator program reinforced the need for Captricity to produce the API.
"Captricity is a game-changing company. With the release of their API, users will be able to have an even more direct connection to Captricity's data entry transcribing technology," said Ron Bouganim, director of the Code for America Accelerator. "Captricity reflects a new generation of startup -- the civic startup -- that can deliver disruptive technologies to government and enterprises alike at a fraction of the traditional cost."
"What we have seen again and again in speaking with civic leaders echoes what we've heard from business owners, researchers, and nonprofit staff: One stand-alone solution for data entry is not enough," said Brian Busch, Director of Business Development at Captricity. "We knew that for Captricity to truly address needs across sectors, it had to plug directly in to existing processes and workflows. The API allows for that."
Captricity's API will be put to its first test this weekend at the Code for America hack-a-thon, where CfA fellows, members of the CfA Brigade, and a community of programmers focusing on civic technology and open data initiatives will come together to hack on Captricity's API and open data sets. These particular data include declarations of the financial interests of California judges, provided by the Fair Political Practices Commission of California - http://www.fppc.ca.gov -- recently released publicly on Captricity's Open Data Portal (http://captricity.com/opendata).

BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Beachfront Media, the owners of the popular video discovery engine MeFeedia, today announced mobile video platform, Beachfront Builder, now makes it possible for content creators to build, deploy and manage Windows 8 apps. Using Beachfront Builder, brands can be among the first to have an app in the Windows Store and reach the millions of people around the world who use Windows every day.
With the most dramatic overhaul of the Windows operating system since 1995, content creators from a variety of industries are making plans to deploy apps to this new mobile-friendly OS and get closer to the consumers who are likely to update their current systems to Windows 8 or go out and buy Windows-enabled devices, including the much anticipated Microsoft Surface.

Beachfront Builder has been designed to resolve this issue by helping video publishers spread content, deliver a new experience to loyal customers, and open new mobile revenue streams across devices and platforms in no time.
"The race to be one of the first to have an app on the new Windows user interface is on. The roll out of Microsoft's new touch screen tile format introduces a whole new app ecosystem where brands and publishers can get those early coveted spots," said Frank Sinton, Founder and CEO of Beachfront Media. "With Beachfront Builder, we ease the transition and remove the coding nightmare that comes with understanding yet another platform, while also introducing a monetization path."
App creators are offered customization features for branding purposes, and, in addition to integration of pre-existing ad solutions, all apps are supported through video, display, sponsorship, and in-app advertising, providing publishers with a new form of revenue that is both player and format specific.
Beachfront Builder apps can be developed and deployed within days into the Apple App Store, Google Android Market, Amazon Appstore and now the Windows Store. The debate over which app to develop is now over. At one time, content publishers, brands, and enterprises can have apps available for the iPhone, iPad, Android Phone, Kindle Fire, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows RT tablets and computers.

Trimble Introduces ThingMagic Mercury6e-Micro RFID Reader Module
Small, Powerful, Flexible UHF RFID Module Expands Embedded RFID Opportunities
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) introduced today its next-generation UHF RFID reader module, designed to be embedded into a wide variety of handheld, portable and stationary devices. The exceptionally small size and powerful performance of the Mercury6e-Micro (M6e-Micro) yields increased efficiency, reduced development costs and time-to-market advantages for RFID applications. Only 46 mm long and 26 mm wide, the M6e-Micro offers two antenna ports and supports the ability to transmit up to +30 dBm (1 Watt) of power for the most demanding applications.
"The opportunity to embed high-performance, low cost RFID technology into many different types of products and solutions is driving innovation throughout commercial, industrial and consumer markets. The M6e-Micro module represents a significant step in supporting this innovation," said Tom Grant, general manager of Trimble's ThingMagic Division. "The introduction of the M6e-Micro demonstrates our continued commitment to removing the barriers to adoption so that more organizations can take advantage of RFID technology for their mission-critical applications."
Small, Powerful and Precise
The M6e-Micro can be embedded into handheld and portable devices to add RFID to everyday products such as printers and mobile computers. It can also be used to create small RFID readers and add-on accessories for existing and emerging solutions where using auto-identification technology can automate workflows or deliver new services.
The read distance of the M6e-Micro is limited only by the size and quality of the antenna selected to operate with the module. With the same antennas typically used in low-profile handheld readers, the M6e-Micro delivers up to two times the read distance of other RFID modules used in mobile applications. The M6e-Micro can read tags at a rate of up to 700 tags per second - more than 4 times the advertised read rate of comparable products on the market. Power can also be throttled down to support applications that demand precision such as tag writing.
Efficient, Flexible and Cost-effective
When transmitting, the M6e-Micro draws less current than is typical for a high-performance UHF RFID module. The module is able to consume as little as 0.025 Watts while remaining ready to react quickly to commands. Support for voltages ranging between 3.3 V and 5 V makes this module compatible with a wide variety of solution architectures, and its built-in voltage regulation allows it to be run directly off battery power. Further performance optimization results in battery power savings over modules that need to transmit longer to read the same number of tags.
Customers can choose from two mounting options - vertically combining the module with low-profile connectors or soldered to a motherboard, requiring no cabling. The solder-down option supports high-volume production and reduces component and assembly costs for original equipment manufacturers.
These form factor and performance advantages allow customers to add optimized and standards-compliant RFID technology to a great number of devices and solutions, delivering cost savings and time-to-market advantages over alternative methods of embedding RFID.
Key Features and Capabilities:
-- Small size: 46 mm L x 26 mm W x 4.0 mm H (1.6 in L x 1.0 in W x 0.16 in
H)
-- Support for the EPCglobal Gen2 (ISO 18000-6C) protocol (IP-X and ISO
18000-6B optional)
-- Support for two monostatic RF antennas through U.FL connector or
solder-down board-edge connections
-- Separate read and write levels, command adjustable from -5 dBm to +30
dBm in 0.5 dB steps
-- -70 dBm receive sensitivity
-- 28 solder-down board-edge connections or Molex low profile connector,
providing access to DC power, communication, and GPIO signals
-- UART and USB 2.0 control/data interfaces
-- Two 3.3V bidirectional ports configurable as input (sensor) ports or
output (indicator) ports
-- North America, EU and PRC regions are supported with a single SKU
High-performance capabilities and application-specific features include:
-- A 'fast search' mode for reading tags affixed to fast-moving objects
-- The ability to rapidly adapt to changing tag populations
-- The ability to obtain 128 bytes of data with every tag read
-- Support for the full cool-Log(TM) command set for IDS SL900A sensor tags
A Commitment to Ease-of-Use
With a goal of driving the barriers for deploying RFID technology as low as possible, the development tools available with the M6e-Micro include a newly designed Web interface with intuitive configuration and management screens, new performance tuning settings, and enhanced tag data access and displays. Also available is the recently redesigned ThingMagic Universal Reader Assistant utility used to initialize readers and perform common tasks such as selecting application specific performance settings.
Applications to control the M6e-Micro module and derivative products can be written using the ThingMagic MercuryAPI. The MercuryAPI supports Java, .NET and C programming environments. The MercuryAPI Software Development Kit (SDK) contains sample applications and source code to help developers get started demonstrating and developing functionality.
Pricing and Availability
The M6e-Micro is expected to be available in November of 2012. For information on pricing and volume discounts, please contact ThingMagic sales at: sales@thingmagic.com or +1-866-833-4069. International dialers call +1-617-499-4090.

negative sentiment, but can prioritize and take action on the most
pressing feedback from customers.

are consistent across the entire Medallia solution, and text analytics
insights are available in real time. Full integration means that
companies can be up and running quickly, without major technology

for specialized analysts, Medallia's Text Analytics engages users at all

And now social media offers a flood of valuable open-text feedback, making sentiment analysis all the more imperative," says Borge Hald, CEO of Medallia. Criminals Using Latest iPhone®, BlackBerry® and Android(TM) Models are No Longer Safe from Conviction with Enhanced Mobile Forensic Technology
PETAH TIKVA, Israel, October 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Cellebrite
[http://www.cellebrite.com/mobile-forensics-products/forensics-products.html ], the leading
provider of mobile forensic solutions, has today introduced advanced technology which can
successfully extract deleted and existing or hidden data from iPhone 5, iOS 6, Android
4.1, and BlackBerry devices. This technological advance means that police forces can
obtain even more forensic data, as part of criminal investigations from the newest model
smartphones and platforms.
A forced alibi, the plotting of crimes and even GEO-location data stored on any phone
can now be retrieved from the mobile's memory and used as evidence in the court of law.
The update makes Cellebrite the only vendor in the mobile forensics industry to provide
full extraction support for the three major smartphone operating systems.
The enhanced support offered by Cellebrite includes:
- the decoding of deleted BlackBerry Messenger messages and group chats
- full physical extraction of iOS 6 Data - software which was launched by Apple
in September 2012
- the extraction of all hidden and deleted data from devices running Samsung's
Jelly Bean OS, as well as the bypass of pattern, PIN, or passcode locks on supported
Android devices
Cellebrite Co-CEO Ron Serber commented, "This new technology offers our mobile
forensics customers the most thorough data extraction capabilities for the newest, most
popular, and widest range of mobile devices. It enables investigators to continue to be
more flexible and responsive when investigating all types of crimes, and in turn makes the
legal process much more efficient."
Cellebrite's technology is used by a number of police forces and military departments
in the UK and worldwide. Cindy Murphy, a detective with the Madison (WI) Police Department
in the US, said, "Sales of so many iPhones, and new shipments of Android devices with the
4.1 OS, increase the likelihood that investigators will encounter these devices. The
prevalence of these next generation smartphones, with their rich variety of data, means
that mobile forensics tools must be able to recover everything that can have evidentiary
value in our investigations.
"Cellebrite's latest release gives us that capability and supports the most
forensically sound process, so that we can make better cases no matter how criminals use
smartphone technology."

DAP Technologies Introduces Rugged Windows Tablet with 10.1-Inch Widescreen Display and Plenty of I/O
DAP's new lightweight MT1010 blends a large touchscreen with enterprise-friendly qualities including seamless Windows® integration and support for multiple peripherals
TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With interest in tablet computers on the rise in just about every vertical market, DAP Technologies is introducing its MT1010 rugged tablet. The lightweight tablet is a direct response to enterprise's top demands for a Windows® operating system that integrates into existing networks, rugged construction built to survive heavy use in challenging environments, a large touchscreen that supports both handheld and vehicle-mounted use, and plenty of I/O ports for connecting to multiple peripherals.
The enterprise-friendly MT1010 features a 10.1-inch, sunlight-viewable multi-touch capacitive display with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2. Compatible with Windows 8, the MT1010 ships with a Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating system for seamless migration into most enterprise environments.
Despite its large screen size, rugged magnesium-alloy construction, and multiple I/O ports -- including USB 2.0, mini USB 2.0, Ethernet, serial and HDMI ports -- the tablet weighs less than 3 pounds and is less than an inch thick. Expansion via a dock and an expansion connector provide the most I/O available in a tablet, as well as easy integration with legacy peripherals.
Sealed to IP65 and certified for a 6-foot drop, the rugged tablet can be used confidently in challenging environments, while extending its use by years.
As with most DAP products, the MT1010 is designed to future-proof a company's investment with a backpack design that allows for expansion.
Because reliable mobile communications are a requirement for business, standard communications features include WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth v4.0. Customers can also choose the optional Gobi(TM) 3000 WWAN embedded module, which allows the tablet to connect to virtually any carrier network.
Equipped with GPS, a gyroscope, an accelerometer and compass, the MT1010 is ideal for mapping applications, telemetry and location-based service functions.
The MT1010 also includes 1D/2D barcode scanner and standard dual autofocus cameras. With a 5 MP back-facing camera with flash and a 2 MP front-facing camera, the tablet is ready for video conferencing or document scanning.
"With tablets continuing to claim portability superiority over laptops, DAP's new MT1010 tablet allows enterprise customers to benefit from this trend, while maintaining Microsoft Windows compatibility and I/O connectivity with legacy peripherals," said David Molesworth, general manager.
The MT1010 includes a 64 GB solid state drive, with options for 128 GB, and runs on an Intel® N2600 dual core 1.6 GHz processor.
DAP Technologies will be displaying the MT1010, along with several new rugged tablet and handheld computers, in booth 3959 at ProMat 2013, held January 21-24 at Chicago's McCormick Place.
DAP Technologies designs and manufactures rugged handheld, tablet, and vehicle-mount computers for demanding industries and harsh environments. Full Story:
EMC(®) Corporation (NYSE: EMC) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Silver Tail Systems, a leader in real-time web session intelligence and behavioral analysis. Upon closing, Silver Tail will operate within the RSA security division and is expected to extend the capabilities of RSA's Identity Protection and Verification (IPV) solutions, as well as other areas across RSA's enterprise security portfolio. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012, subject to certain closing conditions. The acquisition is not expected to have a material impact to EMC GAAP or non-GAAP EPS for the full 2012 fiscal year.
The rapid evolution of malware and advanced online threats has left growing numbers of online banking, ecommerce and government web sites and their customers vulnerable to attack, account takeover and fraud. In response to this evolution organizations historically have focused on building fraud detection and security strategies that try to identify what a bad transaction looks like, creating solutions that must always play catch-up to the latest threats.
Silver Tail Systems' web session intelligence is the response to this evolution in threats and fraud, using a Big Data-driven approach to gather and analyze mass quantities of information in real time and at scale to deepen visibility into web sessions and mobile traffic. The information is fed into Silver Tail Systems' behavior analysis engine to review at both user and population levels to detect anomalies, IT security threats, fraud, insider threats, business logic abuse and other malicious activity.
Silver Tail Systems has been recognized as a leader by prominent industry analysts for its innovative approach and disruptive technology. Silver Tail's solutions are deployed globally in large customer environments, helping to secure online banking traffic and ecommerce and government web sites and portals. Their team has extensive experience in building high-performance solutions that provide monitoring for upwards of 330,000 clicks per second for some of the largest ecommerce and banking providers on the market today.
Within RSA, Silver Tail is expected to contribute to multiple areas across RSA's enterprise security portfolio. Silver Tail's products will add a disruptive fraud-fighting technology designed to install and begin providing value in a matter of days, lowering complexity and cost of ownership. In addition, it is expected Silver Tail's core transaction and behavioral analysis technology will help further extend the security analytics capabilities across RSA's enterprise security solutions portfolio.
Executive Quotes:
Art Coviello, RSA Executive Chairman and Executive Vice President, EMC Corporation
"The industry is well beyond the point of providing effective security using static, perimeter point tools that fail to keep up with dynamic cyber attackers. Customers need better intelligence, analytics, and the ability to respond in real time which is a capability that Silver Tail's products do extraordinarily well to help foil web-based attacks. Silver Tail offers proven anti-fraud solutions that complement RSA's portfolio of risk-based and adaptive products and services.
"We see tremendous opportunity with Silver Tail at the intersection of Big Data and Security to leverage our collective expertise and technologies to move beyond the hype to execute on the vision of intelligence-driven security that is risk-based, agile and contextual. Together RSA and Silver Tail can deliver compelling solutions that leverage session intelligence and Big Data analytics to help our customers gain better visibility and control risk."
Tim Eades, Chief Executive Officer, Silver Tail Systems
"Stopping cybercrime has never been harder than it is today. The recent attacks on the North American banking infrastructure are stark reminders of the pace of innovation in the cybercriminal ecosystem, the convergence of the fraud and info-security attack techniques and the profound responsibility of the CISO to help defend against these attacks.
"Silver Tail pioneered an approach that uses web session intelligence to provide unmatched visibility and the behavioral analysis that detects these threats and protects web-based platforms around the world. Together with RSA, we have an incredible opportunity to extend these capabilities beyond what we do today to protect web-based platforms. Silver Tail's session intelligence technology demonstrates the capacity to expand the awareness and intelligence of what is occurring on the network with context, helping to rapidly sift through data to identify unexpected behavior and apply controls against advanced threats and malicious attacks."

Zao Launches First Free Career Site with Employer Branding and Rewards
Free, Hosted Site Allows Companies to Increase Referral Hires, Grow Talent Network, Manage Job Openings and Offer Referral Rewards - All without IT Budget
TEL AVIV, Israel, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Innovative employee referral management platform Zao today announced a first in the careers marketplace: Companies can now create their own free career site with a built-in rewards component. Zao provides free hosting, enabling employers to brand the page with their own text, logos, images and videos uploaded from platforms like YouTube and Vimeo. No programming skills are needed; the Zao career site is designed to be intuitive to use and easy for HR professionals to edit. Each company gets its own URL at company-name.zao.com, which can be linked directly from the main company site. Non-technical staff at companies can create a free, hosted career page they can use to post and manage job openings, offer branded content to showcase the company for jobseekers and develop talent networks. Zao, which offers free tools to help employers effectively build and manage employee referral programs, now enables companies to easily, affordably create a high-performance career page without involving their organization's IT department.
Company career sites are one of the most important sources for hiring. Well-built career sites can significantly reduce company recruiting costs and help build talent networks. The new Zao service, which is free for employers, is the first career site to offer rewards management functions, talent network creation and multimedia branding opportunities.
"Many company career pages are static and don't fully capitalize on the incredible opportunity presented by a visit from someone who may be interested in joining the company," observed Ziv Eliraz, founder and CEO of Zao. "That's not because HR leaders aren't interested in leveraging the visit - they understand more than most how powerful the potential is. In some cases, lack of IT resources and technical expertise may keep companies from optimizing their career page. With the new Zao career site, companies can finally showcase their brand, display job openings and create talent networks."
Eliraz emphasizes that the talent network aspect is extremely important and is central to Zao's mission of helping companies hire well, fast using referrals from trusted sources like employees, partners and company alumni. He noted that career site visitors come to prospective employers' sites to interact with the company. They may not always find a relevant job, but they often know someone who might be a perfect fit. As jobseekers who may have connections within the employer's industry, they can enhance the search process.
The career site is the latest offering from Zao, a fast-growing startup that helps companies take advantage of employee and contact networks to find the right hires at the right time. IncentiveCardLab.com Announces Suite of Incentive Cards for Nurses
IncentiveCardLab.com Announces Unique Suite of Incentive Cards for Operating Room Nurse Day; includes store gift cards, e-gift cards, and custom incentive cards.
DALLAS, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- IncentiveCardLab.com, an industry leader for incentive gift cards today announced a unique suite of gift cards specially designed for nurses, just in time for Operating Room Nurse Day on November 14(th).
Though nursing is one of the fastest growing professions, it is also one of the most understaffed work forces in the United States. In February 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted that employment in nursing would reach 3.4 million by the year 2020. IncentiveCardLab.com provides the perfect way for hospitals and clinics to recognize nurses for their years of service and hard work. The simple act of employee recognition can go a long way to show nurses that their work is appreciated and ultimately help reduce turnover in a workforce plagued by high employee burnout rates.
"Nurses can set the tone for hospital stay," said Rebecca Killam, marketing associate at IncentiveCardLab.com. "Interacting with patients makes them a significant part of customer service and it's important that they feel appreciated by administration. Incentive cards are a unique way to say "thank you" to staff members who go the extra mile for patient care."
IncentiveCardLab.com has a variety of incentive cards available to suit every recipient and budget from restaurant and store gift cards to e-gift cards which can be sent to a recipient via e-mail or SMS text message. The site also allows you to upload your hospital logo or customize an existing incentive card design for a more personal touch.
Mailed in a custom greeting card, open-loop incentive cards are the most flexible option since they are not tied to a single store or restaurant. "Without a minimum order requirement, we allow you to purchase as little as one card for a standout nurse or as many as you need to thank your entire staff," said David Jones, CEO of IncentiveCardLab.com. The flexibility of open-loop incentive cards allow your recipients to use them for food, gas, or other necessities while they pay off their student loans or save for their next vacation.
About IncentiveCardLab.com
IncentiveCardLab.com was the first to offer Visa Incentive Cards you can customize with your logo. Now their mission is to provide the largest selection of incentive cards in the world, including store gift cards and e-gift cards, while continuing to wow customers with exceptional customer service. Founded in 2004, the Dallas based company makes it simple, fast, and affordable to send incentive cards anywhere in the U.S. with no minimum order and no setup fee. GoPro Globally Launches HERO3, World's Most Versatile Life-Capture Camera
2x More Powerful, 30% Smaller, 25% Lighter, Built-in Wi-Fi
HERO3: Black Edition Camera Captures Life Experiences Like No Other Camera
SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --GoPro, maker of the world's most versatile cameras and enabler of immersive life-experience capture and sharing, announces global availability of its new line of next generation HERO3 cameras. Debuted earlier this month to global media, the HERO3 is now shipping worldwide and is available in three models. GoPro's flagship model, the HERO3: Black Edition, is the most advanced GoPro camera ever. With no expense spared in its development, the HERO3: Black Edition is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and 2x more powerful than previous models. Wearable, gear mountable, and waterproof to 197' (60m), the HERO3: Black Edition is capable of capturing ultra-wide angle HD video at 1080p-60 frames per second (fps), 1440p-48 fps, 720p-120 fps, 2.7Kp-30 fps and 4Kp-15 fps. The HERO3: Black Edition can also capture 12MP photos at a staggering rate of 30 photos per second. Built-in Wi-Fi, GoPro App compatibility, and the included Wi-Fi Remote (normally a separate $79.99 accessory) make the HERO3: Black Edition arguably the world's most powerful and versatile solution for capturing and sharing immersive and engaging footage of your favorite life experiences. With well over 3 million HD GoPro cameras sold since debuting in November of 2009, the HERO3: Black Edition is well positioned to be another global best-seller.
"The HERO3 makes it easier than ever to capture and share immersive and engaging footage of meaningful life experiences," said GoPro's CEO and Founder, Nicholas Woodman. "We've taken everything we learned over the past 10 years and put it into the HERO3, making it the most powerful and yet easy to use camera for self-documenting and sharing your life. Wear it, mount it, or hand hold the HERO3 and capture incredible footage that makes it look like a professional film crew is following you around. This is your life and you deserve to have a spectacular and entertaining record of it."
Whether worn on the chest while skiing, mounted to a motorcycle to record a spirited ride, or worn on the head to document the birth of a first-born child, the HERO3: Black Edition captures stunning hands-free footage of your life experiences with professional quality normally seen only in professional productions.
Thanks to such professional results, consumers aren't the only ones using GoPro to capture and share professional-quality content. Collectively more professional athletes, filmmakers, and creative artists are using GoPro than any other camera in the world to capture everything from competition footage to television commercials to feature-length films. As a result, GoPro has captured 95% of the global wearable camera market and over 32% of the global small form-factor video camera market, making GoPro's HERO line of cameras the best selling small video cameras in the world.
"This is one of the most groundbreaking cameras to come out in recent years," said Vincent Laforet, Pullitzer Prize-winning photographer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. "GoPro has always been an enabling and disruptive company in that it makes the perfect tool to capture, experience and relive the moment for both consumers or professionals alike. Now, with the introduction of the HERO3 and it's vastly higher performance, GoPro will become even more of a staple on professional production shoots - which is saying a lot for a camera you can buy at your local surf or ski shop. It's a bit absurd in a wonderful way, really."
11-time World Champion surfer, Kelly Slater, adds, "I first used the HERO3 in Tahiti during GoPro's product launch video shoot, and the quality of the content we were capturing was mind-blowing." "The most insane shots came from putting the GoPro inside the lip of the wave during ultra slow-motion shots and coming back out of the lip and into the barrel multiple times on each wave. I think people are going to be blown away by the quality and versatility of this even smaller and more powerful GoPro. The HERO3 makes sharing your own experiences even easier and I'm stoked to be a part of its launch."

Slow-motion aficionados and industry professionals will love the HERO3: Black Edition's 1080p-60 frames per second (fps), 720p-120 fps, WVGA-240 fps, 960p-100 fps and 1440p-48 fps video modes while those desiring the highest possible resolutions will appreciate the 2.7KP-30 fps and 4KP-15 fps video modes. 4Kp-15 fps video mode also represents a powerful still image capture mode in that it can be used to capture continuous 8MP+ video stills at a rate of 15 frames per second.
3X Faster Photo Performance
The HERO3: Black Edition's photo performance is 3X improved, now boasting 12MP burst capture at a staggering 30 frames per second with 2X better low light performance compared to previous models. Still Photo and Time-lapse Photo modes remain the same but are now joined by a new Continuous Photo mode that captures continuous 12MP stills at a steady 3, 5, or 10 photo-per-second rate, up to 30 photos at a time.
Improved Sharpness, Less Distortion
The HERO3's reduced-distortion, 6-element aspherical lens combines with user-selectable Ultra-wide, Medium and Narrow field-of-views to deliver more perspective-capture options than ever before. Add the totally updated flat-lens waterproof housing that delivers stunning image sharpness both above and below water and you've got one of the most powerful and durable image capture solutions on the planet.
Redesigned Audio System
Understanding that sound quality is as important as image quality, GoPro engineers completely redesigned the HERO3 to be as adept at capturing the subtle, natural sounds of voice and music as it is at capturing the immersive sounds of sport. Also improved is GoPro's already famous wind-noise reduction, ensuring that you'll hear more of your passion, be it your engine or expletives, and less of the wind during high-speed activities.
Built-in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Remote Included
The HERO3: Black Edition features built-in Wi-Fi and includes GoPro's Wi-Fi Remote accessory. The Wi-Fi Remote is normally available as a $79.99 accessory but is included with the HERO3: Black Edition. The Wi-Fi Remote is waterproof, wearable and can control up to 50 Wi-Fi-enabled GoPros at a time from a range of 600'. The HERO3's built in Wi-Fi means it can also be controlled by iOS smartphones and tablets running the GoPro App*. The GoPro App enables full camera control and live scene preview on any compatible iOS smartphone or tablet with support for Android smartphones and tablets coming Winter 2012.
The HERO3: Black Edition is available for US $399.99 and includes GoPro's Wi-Fi Remote accessory, normally a separate US $79.99 accessory, at no additional cost.
The HERO3 also is available in identically sized HERO3: Silver and White Editions, all sharing the same iconic look of the HERO3 and all sharing the same built-in Wi-Fi technology:
The HERO3: Silver Edition shares the same high performance 11MP photo, 1080p-30 fps and 720p-60 fps features as the best-selling HD HERO2 camera it replaces, yet it has built-in Wi-Fi and is 30% smaller and 25% lighter. The HERO3: Silver Edition retails for US $299.99.

LA Auto Show® Unveils Advanced Technology Showcase
Latest "connected car" technologies highlighted during Press Days Nov. 28 & 29
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology is fueling changes in the automotive industry like never before. Automakers are increasingly challenged to keep pace with today's connected consumers who are tethered to their mobile devices and expecting advanced safety features to be more commonplace. In response, automakers are now partnering with some of the most prominent names in data, mobile and processor technologies to create seamless solutions so consumers can continually access information, without taking their hands off the wheel. Helping keep the industry current on the rapid evolution of the connected car, the LA Auto Show will debut a Press-Days-only showcase of the latest in-vehicle technologies on Nov. 28 and 29, 2012.
The LA Auto Show Advanced Technology Showcase, presented by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, focuses on the expanding list of applications and solutions now being designed into vehicles. The Showcase participants are helping transform not only the way consumers think about transportation, but also how these advancements are helping mitigate the issues of distracted driving through hands-free voice commands and vehicle controls as well as autonomous safety measures.
Whether it is Intel(®) technology enabling seamless access to mobile devices or calculating automated ways for vehicles to avoid traffic jams, Qualcomm Technologies Inc.'s cutting-edge embedded modems powering alerts for roadside emergency services, or even a way to find the cheapest gas based on a driver's location thanks to Scout(TM) by Telenav, today's solutions are road-tested and ready. In-vehicle entertainment is also part of this evolution, with solutions such as Livio Connect enabling entertainment on a global scale by giving drivers access to apps like TuneIn, or Sprint's unique component integration solutions that make dashboards more like smartphones and tablets.
Highlighted below are the companies and technologies involved in the Showcase. Each represents an important part of the solution driving change and a safer, more efficient and connected driving experience.
Intel Corporation
Consumer demand is driving integration of the car into our digital lives. The move is fueling the emergence of the connected car and the promise of more enjoyable, productive, intuitive and safe experiences for drivers and passengers alike. Imagine running late for an appointment during peak traffic, automatically the car recommends a new route to guide you away from your usual--but now congested--route. Intel's technology also allows interaction between smartphones and vehicles in more useful ways. By using in-car connectivity, along with the cameras and sensors already in your car, the car can notify you via smartphone if it has been hit in a parking lot. Additionally, near-field communications or a barcode can be used to securely pair a smartphone with your car, enabling your smartphone to become a virtual key for remote keyless entry to your car.
To make these new driving experiences possible, Intel is utilizing its expertise in personal computing, software, security and cloud computing, as well as making significant investments in research and product development. Intel is also working with leading automakers including BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan and Toyota to enhance the in-vehicle experience and bring advanced in-vehicle technologies to market.
At the LA Auto Show, Intel is showcasing a connected car driving experience concept in which Press Days participants can explore up to three experiences: car enthusiast, family or commuter. While interacting with the demo, participants can 'test drive' in-vehicle features of the intelligent car including a system that verifies the vehicle owner, designs personalized navigation routes, locates personal contacts nearby and even updates your social media networks.
Qualcomm Technologies Inc.
Qualcomm Technologies Inc., a global leader in advanced 3G and 4G/LTE wireless modems that are combined with high performance mobile application processors, and a large supplier of wireless modem chipsets to the auto industry, is helping to enable high-speed data access in vehicles resulting in a rich media experience. Qualcomm Technologies' unique combination of high speed connectivity and processing performance is enabling movies to be streamed to the kids in the rear seat, a world's worth of audio and internet radio programming, and automated telematics that assist drivers in ways ranging from sending an automated request for roadside emergency service in the case of a crash to receiving a reminder for scheduled maintenance.
With more than a decade of experience in the automotive industry, Qualcomm Technologies continues to provide the underlying wireless and application processor technology that allows automakers and their strategic partners to create new, breakthrough communications enabled applications and services. Displays at the Showcase include the company's high performance processor based on Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) platforms and its combination Qualcomm Gobi(TM) wireless modem/application processor platforms that enable consumers to remotely activate controls in their vehicle (such as starting the vehicle and turning on the A/C before entering the car on a hot day), monitor vehicle energy usage (particularly useful for EV "smart grid" applications), use advanced location-based navigation systems and apps, and of course, stream the latest blockbuster to rear seat movie fans.
Sprint
Sprint makes its appearance at the LA Auto Show with a global announcement and press conference during the Show's official Press Days. The Tier 1 communications company is a leader in machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity, notably in telematics solutions for transportation. On the strength of this position, in August 2012, the Chrysler Group selected Sprint as a strategic partner to enable its Uconnect Access in-vehicle communications system. Sprint executives will be at the LA Auto Show to debut the company's unique global turnkey solution for automotive manufacturers as they take connected services to the next level.
In addition to component integration and ecosystem management, Sprint aims to help automakers become more effective providers of consumer communications. During the press conference, Sprint will showcase how automotive manufacturers can affordably draw on its consumer wireless capabilities to extend a rich mobility experience to their cars and trucks. Sprint's objective is to make dashboard technology as simple, intuitive and appealing as smartphones and tablets.
Sprint will also highlight how this can be done in a rich and highly personalized way that fully accounts for the special requirements of drivers and passengers. As part of this innovative program, the company will discuss how auto manufacturers can build stronger customer loyalty through deeper, ongoing consumer relationships.
Scout by Telenav
With Scout it is about the destination as well as the journey along the way. Scout, available on both iOS and Android, includes voice-guided GPS navigation, speech recognition, traffic rerouting, personalized My Dashboard with commute times, offline navigation and more. In addition, Scout is the first (and only) app that works across the web, phone and in-car systems-offering users an easy and consistent discovery and navigation experience no matter where they are.
With the recent introduction of Scout for AppLink, which integrates the popular smartphone navigation app with voice and vehicle controls through the Ford SYNC AppLink platform, drivers now have access to the app's full suite of features in a safe, responsible manner. For example, directions are audible through the vehicle's speakers and turn-by-turn prompts are displayed on the radio display. The road-worthy functions, available to drivers when their smartphone is paired to AppLink, includes access to features such as location-based searches for the lowest gas prices and other points of interest such as restaurants, saving and sharing favorites, and getting live traffic updates for a safe and smart commute. Scout for AppLink will be on display at the Showcase and throughout the run of the show for public days in a 2013 Ford Mustang, so attendees can experience for themselves how the app integrates with the vehicle.
Livio Connect
The connected car means many things, including the ability to bring advanced entertainment solutions into vehicles. Thanks to the integration of 3G/4G mobile networks, a driver's access to rich media ranging from movies for the rear seat to multiple streaming music services is almost limitless. Some of the most exciting applications are radio and music apps, which provide drivers greater listening choices. Livio is a new and important mover in this space, underscored by the recent announcement that GM will incorporate the company's technology in a solution that will allow Chevy Spark and the Chevy Sonic RS owners to enjoy the popular TuneIn music smartphone app in vehicles equipped with GM's MyLink Radio. Essentially, the Livio Connect middleware software enables hardware such as the Spark's installed head unit and radio to connect with smartphone apps like TuneIn and interact with one another. This integration also allows drivers to control the app in a hands-free manner, only using voice and vehicle controls. In the application on display at the Show, the Livio Connect technology will be installed in a Chevy Spark equipped with MyLink Radio to demonstrate how drivers can enjoy any of the 70,000 stations from around the world featured on the mobile TuneIn app.
Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC)
With so many systems and manufacturers in the mix bringing the connected car and its multiple features into reality, it's hugely important that a standard be created so all parties involved are on the same page. No real advancement could happen without it. Smartphones from various manufacturers need to be able to integrate with center console displays from others, while automakers have to ensure that all these devices embed efficiently in their vehicles. To that end, members of the CCC have created MirrorLink(TM), a technology standard for controlling a nearby smartphone via steering wheel and dashboard buttons and screens. The organization has proven to be a success with membership including more than 80 percent of the world's automakers and more than 70 percent of the world's smartphone vendors, as well as related hardware manufacturers such as the makers of display technologies. The list reads like a who's who of these industries and includes companies such as GM, Toyota, Volkswagen, LG, Nokia, Panasonic and Alpine. Pursuing its goal of ensuring a safe driving environment where driver distraction is eliminated and entertainment and functionality maximized, the Consortium has already garnered the cooperation of these global brands to create MirrorLink version 1.0 and its requisite authorized test labs. At the LA Auto Show, Press Days attendees will get an insider's view of how MirrorLink works to ensure smartphones, center console displays and the latest intelligent vehicles can function seamlessly together ensuring the success and growth of the connected car.
