AppDynamics Sets a New Bar for Simple & Powerful Application Performance Management
Leading APM Company Simplifies UI While Introducing New Security & Scaling Features
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AppDynamics, Inc., the leading application performance management (APM) solution for modern application architectures, announced today that it has dramatically simplified its user interface while introducing powerful features designed for complex and distributed environments.
Following the mission statement of "Simple Yet Powerful," the new release from AppDynamics offers an industry first: an easy-to-use solution that also identifies the most complex problems plaguing the world's largest and most dynamic application environments.
AppDynamics' "Simple Yet Powerful" features are grouped below:
Simple.
-- AppDynamics auto-discovers each application's topology and dependencies
to make it easy for users to pinpoint bottlenecks between services and
tiers.
-- AppDynamics also auto-discovers the business transactions (e.g. "submit
order," "pay bill") being performed by end users to make it easy for IT
Operations to understand whether the most important transactions are
slow or failing.
-- AppDynamics auto-instruments application code and traces each
transaction from end-to-end. With no manual instrumentation required,
users can immediately deploy AppDynamics and begin troubleshooting
performance problems.
-- New: AppDynamics has its simplified UI for faster troubleshooting; it
now takes approximately 30% fewer clicks to identify and resolve
problems.
-- New: AppDynamics has made it easy to seamlessly integrate its solution
into existing enterprise security systems through user provisioning with
LDAP & SAML, using fine-grained Role Based Access Control capabilities.
-- New: It's now possible to personalize Event filters for each user, so
individuals only see the application data that's relevant to their role.
For example, if IT Ops professionals are in charge of the cluster
responsible for the "Pay Bill" business transaction, they can filter
Events to screen out the white noise and pinpoint the data necessary for
root cause analysis.
Powerful.
-- AppDynamics is renowned for its ability to turn the "black box" of an
application into a clear picture of where to begin troubleshooting. It
provides specific diagnostics for all of the usual suspects of
performance problems: slow business transactions, application errors,
database calls, NoSQL/Big Data performance, server health, resource
constraints, CPU, memory leaks and errors, browser slowness, and more.
-- AppDynamics auto-learns the normal performance of each business
transaction so that it can accurately identify deviations from the norm
and collect actionable diagnostics in real time. By avoiding the
error-prone technique of setting manual thresholds, users avoid "false
alarms" and spend their time on actual issues.
-- AppDynamics typically reduces Mean-Time-to-Resolution for critical app
problems by 90% by enabling code-level diagnostics in a matter of
minutes.
-- New: AppDynamics now monitors and reports on the performance of
multi-threaded business transactions, equipping IT development and
operations teams with tremendous control over highly complex and
distributed application environments.
"Our goal is to simplify the nature of application performance management, enabling our customers to focus on innovation rather than firefighting and troubleshooting," said Jyoti Bansal, Founder & CEO of AppDynamics. "But simplification can't come at the expense of the ability to manage today's complex applications. AppDynamics has struck a balance that offers 'seconds to root cause' capability without sacrificing the powerful features required to support the most distributed application environments on the planet."
AppDynamics stands at the forefront of a generational change in how web applications are managed: modern applications are no longer monolithic in nature but are highly distributed and dynamic, fueled by architectural trends like Cloud, SOA, Big Data and Agile Development. As a result, traditional application performance management solutions have become outdated. AppDynamics is well poised to exploit this generational shift, and has become the solution of choice for organizations that require Tomcat monitoring, JBoss monitoring, Weblogic monitoring, Websphere monitoring, NET and IIS server monitoring, and Glassfish monitoring.

Internet2 and EDUCAUSE Partner with CourseSmart to Test Industry's First Flat Business Model, Providing eTextbooks and eResources in a Single Place, For a Single Price
SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- CourseSmart®, a leading Educational Services Platform and the world's largest provider of digital course materials, in partnership with Internet2 and EDUCAUSE, today announced a research project to test a simple, convenient and affordable approach to digital course materials. Up to 20 institutions will be invited to participate in a trial of the CourseSmart Subscription Pack, a one-stop shopping experience where students can buy all of their eTextbooks from one website for one subscription price over a fixed access period.
Institutions participating in the research project will have a choice between two flat fee options, which allow a select number of students at the institution immediate access to any eTextbook in CourseSmart's catalog of more than 30,000 titles from 40 publishers. Participating institutions will choose license access from two levels:
-- 100 students = $27,500 per semester
-- 200 students = $44,000 per semester
-- Additional students can be added at $200 each after 200 student minimum
-- An added benefit to institutions taking part in the research project is
that faculty will receive free, unlimited access to CourseSmart's entire
catalog through the Faculty Instant Access (FIA) program.
CourseSmart's Subscription Pack offers students the ability to place up to 12 titles on their bookshelf at any point during the semester, which should more than adequately cover the typical student's needs with room to spare. Students will pay $275 or less for all of their digital materials, which is a significant savings over print retail textbook prices.
"CourseSmart is pleased to partner with Internet2 and EDUCAUSE to offer this innovative new business model which sets a new standard in the use, affordability and accessibility of digital course materials," said Sean Devine, CEO of CourseSmart. "The CourseSmart Subscription Pack offers compelling benefits to both students and faculty: students can save money, reduce book load and conveniently access their books digitally in one place, and faculty can be confident that they are helping students obtain needed texts and materials more economically and efficiently than ever before."
"We are excited to partner with CourseSmart on this research project," said Shel Waggener, Senior Vice President, Internet2. "CourseSmart was one of the innovators in filling an unmet need in the marketplace for an affordable, one-stop shop for eTextbooks. Their early commitment to accessibility and creativity in developing options to participate in this process show their commitment to deliver these existing solutions to all students."
CourseSmart titles will be integrated within participating institutions' learning management systems, providing students and faculty with immediate access to course content within the environments they use daily. CourseSmart's eTextbooks can be accessed online or offline anytime through any device or through dedicated apps on the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Students participating in the research project will be able to take advantage of the many features of CourseSmart eTextbooks, including the ability to search, copy and paste, as well as take notes, highlight and bookmark passages, which are synched across devices.
"As a publisher, we are enthusiastic about participating in a program that makes purchasing course materials more efficient for students," said Jim Kelly, Sr. Vice President at McGraw-Hill. "The need for this has existed in the marketplace for some time now, and we are pleased that CourseSmart has brought it to life. We have every reason to believe that students will see the benefit and respond enthusiastically."

Redpine Signals Offers Complete Suite of Wireless Technology for System-on-Chip (SoC) Integration
SoC designers can now leverage Redpine's proven Wi-Fi chipsets and systems experience to develop their own solutions for mobile, networking and M2M markets
Highlights:
- Extensive portfolio of wireless technology including ultra-low-power 802.11abgn/ac (Wi-Fi®) supporting three MIMO streams, Bluetooth® 4.0, ZigBee® to enable SoC developments in multiple markets.
- New IP offerings work seamlessly with Redpine's own RF front-end and Wi-Fi certified software stack, and make the target SoC a deployable product.
- Reference design is based on Redpine's own silicon for faster software development.
- Backed by a patent portfolio spanning over a decade of research in OFDM/MIMO technologies.
- Expert support during certifications for compliance and regulatory needs.
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ARM® TechCon(TM) - Redpine Signals, Inc., a leading developer of ultra-low-power and high-performance multi-standard wireless chipsets and systems, today announced its full suite of wireless technologies (Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, ZigBee® ) is now available for SoC integration. The portfolio includes 802.11abgn 1x1 through 802.11abgn/ac 3x3; BT 4.0 ad ZigBee, which will all be demonstrated at booth-10 at the ARM TechCon at the Santa Clara Convention Center on October 30.
When integrating wireless IP into a SoC, the cost effectiveness of the end solution is determined by comparing the cost of an off-the-shelf chipset. In addition, broader wireless IP licensing requires the licensor to have full ownership of the constituent components of the total system solution RF transceiver, power amplifier, certified software stack, and field experience of selling and supporting wireless chipsets to make it viable for the licensee to develop and deploy the end product successfully.
With the licensing of the full suite of wireless solutions from Redpine, integrators will have a faster time to market, and much lower cost. The reference design available to SoC developers is based on Redpine's own silicon for faster software development, so they have all the essential elements of the Redpine system. Also, IP cores now allow easy SoC integration for application processors, network processors and MCUs, and are designed to keep portability across multiple fabs and technology nodes. In addition, expert support will be available from Redpine during certifications for compliance and regulatory needs, ensuring the products are ready to go to market.
"Redpine has proven through its product business that it understands the interaction between wireless hardware and software, and the company also understands the design tradeoffs for optimizing wireless solutions to meet the target price, power and performance," said Scott Gardner, Analyst of The Linley Group. "By opening up its suite of wireless technologies to SoC integrators, Redpine will help its licensees keep up with this relentless pace of wireless innovation."
Redpine has been developing wireless technology since 2001 and created many of the industry's first products for mobile, networking and M2M markets, including the 802.11abgn SoCs and certified wireless modules products. From the beginning, Redpine has focused on creating highly differentiated wireless technology, demonstrating its strengths by introducing ultra-low power and high performance 802.11abgn in 2007 and single-chip simultaneous dual-band 11abgn/ac technology in 2012. In addition, Redpine's technology differentiations are backed by over 45 awarded patents in OFDM/MIMO/low power/multi-thread processing.
"Experience of wireless product deployment is critical to becoming an IP supplier," said Venkat Mattela, CEO of Redpine Signals. "Our history of supporting over 1,000 customers in the M2M space over ten years and expertise in licensing the wireless IP to credible mobile silicon players will help bring new wireless innovations to the market."

Laying the Foundations for Germany's Largest Data Center
MAGDEBURG, Germany, October 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
- This new building will cover Germany's high demand for cloud services.
- The highly secure data center will start operations in 2014 in Saxony-Anhalt,
Germany.
- 130 highly qualified permanent positions are planned for the Magdeburg
metropolitan area.
Germany's largest data center will be built on a surface area the size of approx. 30
soccer fields (i.e., 150,000m[2]) in Saxony-Anhalt. As the foundations are laid down today
in Biere in the Salzland district, the Telekom subsidiary,
T-Systems, is beginning to build its 90th data center. Together with the data center
already running in Magdeburg, the new construction in Biere will form a "TwinCore," i.e.,
a twin data center which offers the highest level of data and operational security. In the
last expansion stage at both locations, an area of almost eight soccer fields will be
exclusively dedicated to computing technology - more than in any other data center across
Germany.
In Magdeburg, T-Systems already operates the largest data center in eastern Germany.
With the start of operations of the twin data center in Biere in 2014, the IT and
telecommunications Group will satisfy the rapidly growing global demand for cloud
services. Some 600 corporate customers use these new IT services offered by T-Systems,
including internationally active groups such as Shell and Daimler. Data protection and
fail-safety are of utmost importance to these major companies operating at international
level. The TwinCore data center type that is being built in Saxony-Anhalt, is considered
to be highly secure since in the event of an incident any twin can immediately take over
for the other. Operations continue without any interruption. T-Systems is meanwhile using
22 data centers of this type specifically for cloud services.
The state premier of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff, says: "Telekom is one of
Saxony-Anhalt's main employers. However, T-Systems' investments are not only creating more
jobs, but are allowing Saxony-Anhalt to soon be part of the premier league of IT locations
across Europe with the new data center. What has always been the case, has now taken on a
new meaning: You can always count on us in Saxony-Anhalt."
Dr. Ferri Abolhassan, member of the Board of Management at T-Systems, says: "Companies
that decide to use cloud computing pay attention to high availability and data protection.
With the German Federal Data Protection Act [BDSG], Germany already has a clear advantage
in terms of location. Moreover, we ensure the business operations of groups thanks to our
TwinCore data centers and a zero error strategy. The new construction in Biere will become
part of our global supply and production network. On the basis of this network with data
centers in America, Asia, Africa and Europe, we are providing our customers with the most
modern IT and cloud technology across the globe, with the highest availability and
security."
The new data center is geared towards energy efficiency. The total energy requirements
have been reduced by 27 percent compared to similar data centers. State-of-the-art
knowledge gained from operating the joint research data center "DataCenter 2020" in Munich
with the American company, Intel, has led to these significant savings. The power for
operating the data center is "climate-neutral," as is exclusively the case in the Deutsche
Telekom Group.
Deutsche Telekom employs some 2,200 highly qualified staff in Saxony-Anhalt, including
almost 300 trainees and is therefore the fifth largest employer in the state. T-Systems
has approx. 750 employees in the Magdeburg data center alone. With the expansion to a
TwinCore data center specifically for cloud services, 100 jobs are to be created in Biere
and a further 30 in Magdeburg.
Under the motto "Cloud for all," Telekom is constantly launching new data services
from the cloud. Secure cloud services for corporate groups, SMEs, and consumers are key
elements of Telekom's future-centric strategy. Journalists can find out more about the
latest developments in the cloud strategy and try out the new solutions for themselves at
Telekom's "Cloud computing press audience day" on November 30, 2012 in Bonn.
Since 2008, Telekom has entered into around 200 cooperation agreements with local
authorities in Saxony-Anhalt for the provision of broadband lines. The company invests
more than 10 million euros in the region each year to expand the fixed network and LTE.
T-Systems caters for all administration levels ranging from the state government, district
and local governments with modern IT and communication services. The corporate customers
arm operates for example voice and data networks for some districts or even the full range
of information technology such as for the Harz district or the job center in the Salzwedel
district.
A group of companies, comprised of Hannover Leasing as investor and Ed.Züblin AG and
M+W GmbH as joint building venture, is building the new data center which received several
million euros in support from the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Financing is being carried out
via a bank consortium under the direction of Bayern LB. T-Systems will lease the data
center once it is ready and will make further investments amounting to the mid-range
double-digit millions of euros on average every three years in further modernization.

Award-winning Network Monitor Now Supports 20,000+ Sensors with No Memory Limit
BURLINGTON, Mass. and NUREMBERG, Germany, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Paessler AG, the innovative network monitoring solutions specialist, today announced the launch of the first 64-bit version of its award-winning PRTG Network Monitor. Designed to meet high-performance monitoring needs for increasingly complex network environments, the new 64-bit version is now able to accommodate more than 20,000 sensors. The removal of any memory limit improves stability and performance in large installations. With a number of new sensor types added to the suite, the new 64-bit PRTG offers more advanced monitoring capabilities while still maintaining PRTG's trademark simple, user-friendly automated deployment system and user interface.
Like all 32-bit software, previous versions of PRTG had been limited to just three GB of RAM, supporting about 10,000 sensors on average. The newest version removes that cap, with a core server now shipped as both a 32-bit binary (for 32-bit Windows) and a 64-bit binary. As a result, PRTG can now fully utilize the entire available memory on a host computer running a 64-bit Windows system. This enables PRTG to accommodate at least double the number of sensors, approximately 20,000.
For large networks, this expanded capability cuts the number of PRTG licenses or installations required to monitor the same, if not more, components in half, reducing the cost and further streamlining PRTG's already simple dashboard user interface.
"As part of our ongoing development and continuous rollout strategy, this release will serve as a base to further improve the capacity and performance of PRTG in the coming months," said Dirk Paessler, CEO Paessler AG. "We're already working to support even bigger installations, with a 50,000 sensor scenario fully operational in our test lab network. We are committed to further increasing PRTG's capabilities to meet growing customer demand."
More than 150 sensor types to choose from
PRTG now offers an expanded range of sensors with more than 150 different types for varying applications. Depending on the requirements, a close monitoring network's "spin" can be woven to provide detailed and targeted monitoring information. These precise sensor compilations can be managed easily, even in large networks.
Some of the new sensor types include:
-- Sensors for NetApp SANs to provide comprehensive monitoring of NetApp
storage solutions;
-- Sensors for hardware monitoring via SNMP to monitor components on
Windows and Linux systems;
-- MS Exchange Transport Queue Sensor for detailed monitoring of Exchange
Server 2003, 2007 and 2010;
-- Port Range Sensor for multiple port monitoring using SNMP; and
-- WMI Custom String Sensor for monitoring SQL Server on Windows using WQL
query.
Paessler's flagship PRTG Network Monitor has been recognized worldwide by leading IT industry publications, including the EMA Radar(TM) for Enterprise Network Management Systems: Q4 2012, the UK's IT PRO and Germany's Funkschau, for its rich feature set, ease of use and simple, cost-effective all-in licensing model.
Paessler AG leads the industry in providing the most powerful, affordable and easy-to-use network monitoring and testing solutions. The company's suite of just-right software products deliver peace of mind, confidence and convenience for businesses of all sizes - from Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) to large enterprises, including more than 70% of the Fortune 100 companies. DALLAS, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) today introduced a 1.5-A constant current DC/DC buck converter with an industry-leading combination of frequency synchronization, pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming and thermal foldback. The TPS92510 features a wide 3.5-V to 60-V input voltage operating range and integrated MOSFET. Together with TI's WEBENCH(®) LED Architect, the lighting developer can quickly design a power management circuit to drive a string of up to 17 high-brightness LEDs at up to 97-percent power efficiency in automotive, industrial and general illumination applications. For more information and samples, visit http://www.ti.com/tps92510-pr.
Unlike conventional buck LED drivers, TI's TPS92510 can operate with fixed frequency either by utilizing its internally-generated clock or via synchronization to an external PWM clock source. In multi-string implementations, the use of an external clock eliminates beat frequencies that may be visible in the lighting application and simplifies EMI filter design. Thermal foldback ensures some light output remains even in an LED over-temperature condition, which improves safety in the lighting environment.
The TPS92510 joins TI's LED driver portfolio that includes the 0.5-A LM3402, 1.0-A LM3404 and 1.5-A LM3406 hysteretic, non-synchronous, constant current LED buck regulators that feature LED open circuit protection, low-power shutdown and thermal shutdown. For more information on all of TI's lighting products, visit http://www.ti.com/lighting-pr.
Key features and benefits of the TPS92510 LED driver
-- 3.5-V to 60-V input voltage operating range supports a wide variety of
DC LED lighting applications, including area and street lighting.
-- Fixed switching frequency range from 100 kHz to 2.5 MHz can be
synchronized to optimize for efficiency or solution size.
-- LED thermal foldback with external negative temperature coefficient
(NTC) protects LED array from over-temperature while maintaining reduced
light output.
-- Dedicated PWM dimming input from 100 Hz to 1 kHz adjusts LED brightness
without color shift or perceivable flicker.
Availability, packaging and pricing
The TPS92510 is available in volume now from TI and its authorized distributors. Offered in a 4.9-mm by 3-mm, 10-pin PowerPad(TM) MSOP package, the TPS92510 is priced at US$1.65 each in 1,000-unit quantities.

Cambium Networks And Agile Networks Team To Deliver Wireless Broadband Across The State Of Ohio
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambium Networks(TM), a leading provider of wireless broadband access network solutions, and Agile Networks, a telecommunications services company headquartered in Canton, Ohio, today announced that Cambium's world-class suite of wireless solutions has been chosen for the statewide build-out of The Agile Network in Ohio.
The Agile Network will cover more than 3 million address points across the state, including over 100,000 homes that do not have access to broadband today. This initiative aims to drive economic development, update the state's public safety infrastructure and reduce telecommunications costs for local and state government across Ohio. It will provide the infrastructure to better connect residents, businesses and government locations, as well as provide open access for telecom service providers throughout the state. Special emphasis for this shared resource will be placed on counties in need and local government entities such as hospitals, county courthouses, police stations and other local government buildings that require an enhanced data infrastructure to provide public safety and a wide range of additional government services.
Cambium will support The Agile Network infrastructure by utilizing a broad range of the company's point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PMP) wireless broadband solutions. Using a combination of both licensed and licensed-exempt frequencies, Agile will deploy Cambium's PMP 320 and PMP 450 products as well as the PTP 800i All-Indoor solution for last mile access and backhaul infrastructure to deliver broadband services throughout the network. The PMP 450, Cambium's newest high-performance, 4G, PMP platform will be instrumental in enabling Agile to reach previously underserved Ohio residents. Cambium's broadband solutions were chosen because they enable wide-range connectivity, scalability and high reliability. Cambium's products have also been recognized as surpassing the technical specifications for reliability, ruggedness and dependability necessary for the public safety network.
"Cambium's solutions have the reliability and scale we need to help build out the wireless broadband network across the state of Ohio," said Kyle Quillen, chief technology officer, Agile Networks. "Initiatives like this one are critical for helping the state of Ohio bridge the digital divide and foster economic growth throughout the entire state. Using Cambium's comprehensive suite of products, The Agile Network will help bridge the connectivity gap in rural Ohio and provide wireless broadband access to thousands of people who otherwise would not have adequate access. Cambium's product line and engineering expertise allows us to deliver fiber-grade connectivity with the affordability, the speed of deployment and the sheer agility that comes with wireless infrastructure."
The network will help local governments deploy rural broadband projects, reduce operating costs and unify their communications infrastructures across a common system.
Cambium and Quillen first partnered together as part of a 2009 project to deliver countywide wireless broadband to Coshocton County, a rural Appalachian county located in East Central Ohio. As part of that project, Cambium's products were used to install 14 access points throughout the county connecting both residential and business users. The success of that project ultimately led to this statewide deployment.
"Broadband is no longer a luxury, it's become a necessity for businesses, residents and government alike," said Jay Hilbert, senior vice president, Global Sales, Cambium Networks. "Our partnership with Agile is an important one that sets the standard for providing reliable, affordable connectivity across both underserved and urban areas within an entire state. As the first statewide initiative of its kind, The Agile Network also serves as a model for other states to emulate by bringing together the public and private sectors to benefit everyone's economic interests."

EV drivers can use the OpConnect iPhone app, or other smartphone scanners to access free stations or to pay for a charging session at stations that require payment.
Mobile payments are just one of many payment options available to OpConnect network members and non-members. Unlike many competitors' networks that restrict access of charging stations to members, the OpConnect stations can be accessed in a variety of ways including using an email address, a credit card, an OpConnect Network card, the Wright Express Fleet card, and now, a smartphone.

People can sign up by simply texting their zip code to 888777 or by subscribing for free at Nixle.com. They then will receive authorized alerts directly on their mobile phones or SMS-enabled devices, as long as their batteries are charged.
Nixle uses a proprietary platform that allows participating police, fire and emergency agencies to send secure and authenticated real-time alerts. More than 6,000 agencies nationwide have signed up for Nixle, using it as their primary form of electronic outreach. These agencies prefer Nixle because, unlike other popular social media sites, each agency's account is verified and only urgent bulletins appear on subscriber phones.
More than 1 million citizens now subscribe to Nixle. Since midnight Friday, Nixle has seen a tenfold increase in new subscribers and a 50 percent jump in alerts sent by agencies. During the past 72 hours, these public safety agencies have sent 1,500 alerts.
"We are seeing extraordinary interest in Nixle as the storm approaches,'' said Eric Liu, CEO of the San Francisco-based company. "Many of our agency partners have been using us for several years now. This storm, however, is generating record traffic because people know that they are receiving authoritative information from verified public-safety agencies.''

Emulex Unveils OneCore Storage Software Development Kit for High Performance I/O Connectivity
New Tool Kit Enables IHVs and ISVs to Deliver Server and Storage Appliances Powered by Emulex I/O Connectivity Solutions
FRANKFURT, Germany and COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SNW EUROPE -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE: ELX), today announced the OneCore(TM) Storage software development kit (SDK), a new comprehensive solution for independent hardware and software vendors (IHVs and ISVs) and system integrators who are developing storage, flash/solid state disk (SSD), application and networking appliance solutions that require low latency and high performance I/O connectivity. The Emulex OneCore Storage SDK includes a collection of high performance initiator and target driver source code, documentation, training and support which allows IHVs/ISVs to leverage Emulex's breakthrough Emulex Engine(TM) (XE) 201 converged fabric controller technology, which is capable of 8Gb and 16Gb Fibre Channel (8GFC and 16GFC) and 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE), Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and iSCSI I/O connectivity, within their own storage networking solutions.
"The Emulex XE201 converged fabric controller-based products will help appliance partners develop solutions to address the explosive growth of optimized solutions for enterprise, cloud, SSD/flash and big data," said Shaun Walsh, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development, Emulex. "This new SDK enables IHVs and ISVs to accelerate their time to market with complementary high performance I/O connectivity solutions, powered by Emulex, that are ideal for keeping pace with the demands of I/O caching, highly virtualized environments and performance hungry applications that need more bandwidth, throughput and faster response times."
The Emulex OneCore Storage SDK simplifies and accelerates the process of developing storage solutions based on Emulex's code base, with an extensible, modular framework and architecture. Leveraging a straightforward, easy to use click-through end user licensing agreement streamlines and simplifies the procurement of the tool kit. The Emulex OneCore Storage SDK includes the SDK device driver source code, release notes, documentation, training, and access to a developer portal, as well as a community support forum.
Additional key benefits of the OneCore Storage Developers program include:
-- Elastic Driver Development Approach: IHVs/ISVs can leverage the Emulex
target and initiator reference drivers in several ways: as the
foundation of their driver, utilizing specific layer(s) as the building
block for their driver, or as reference code for their own driver
development. The OneCore Storage SDK also provides a common driver
framework and architecture that will support all storage protocols (FC,
FCoE and iSCSI).
-- Extensible Modular Driver Architecture: The Emulex OneCore Storage SDK
has been designed from the ground up to be protocol and operating system
(OS) agnostic. This unique driver architecture provides a clean, easily
understood reference driver which can be used by customers as the
foundation or as a building block for their driver. The OneCore Storage
SDK consists of Emulex's Service Level Interface (SLI(TM)), Hardware
Abstraction Layer (HAL), transport code and abstracted OS interfaces for
OS-specific implementations. The OneCore Storage SDK also contains a
SCSI-like API for back-end target and initiator connectivity.
-- Ideal for Storage, Flash Array and Appliance Vendors: With the fastest
16GFC adapters available today, capable of more than 1.2 million I/O
operations per second (IOPS) on a single port,¹ developers can leverage
Emulex FC and FCoE technology to power their SSD/flash-based storage
appliances, and take advantage of the performance and management
characteristics needed to support virtualized servers and cloud
deployments.
-- Broad Platform Support: OneCore Storage includes both Linux (Red Hat
Enterprise Linux [RHEL] 6.2) and FreeBSD 9.0 SDKs. In addition, the OS
agnostic design gives developers the option of porting the drivers to
other OSes.
-- Flexible Back-end Support: The OneCore Storage SDK architecture allows
customers to utilize their own customer-specific back-end or standard
Linux or FreeBSD back-ends.
-- Advanced Standards Support: OneCore Storage SDK drivers provide support
for advanced standards such as N_Port Identification Virtualization
(NPIV), which allows users to maintain SAN best practices within a
virtualized environment, and T10 Protection Information (T10 PI),
providing enhanced data protection against silent data corruption.

Emulex Safe Harbor Statement
"Safe Harbor" Statement under the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995: With the exception of historical information, the statements set forth above include forward-looking statements that involve risk and uncertainties. Emulex wishes to caution readers that a number of important factors could cause actual results to differ materially from those in the forward-looking statements. Those factors include among others, intellectual property claims, with or without merit, that could result in costly litigation, cause product shipment delays, require Emulex to indemnify customers, or require Emulex to enter into royalty or licensing agreements, which may or may not be available. Furthermore, Emulex has in the past obtained, and may be required in the future to obtain, licenses of technology owned by other parties. Emulex cannot be certain that the necessary licenses will be available or that they can be obtained on commercially reasonable terms. If Emulex were to fail to obtain such royalty or licensing agreements in a timely manner and on reasonable terms, Emulex's business, results of operations and financial condition could be materially adversely affected. Ongoing lawsuits, such as the action brought by Broadcom Corporation ("Broadcom"), present inherent risks, any of which could have a material adverse effect on Emulex's business, financial condition, or results of operations. Such potential risks include continuing expenses of litigation, risk of loss of patent rights and/or monetary damages, risk of injunction against the sale of products incorporating the technology in question, counterclaims, attorneys' fees, incremental costs associated with product or component redesigns, and diversion of management's attention from other business matters. With respect to the Broadcom litigation, such potential risks also include the availability of an adequate sunset period of time to make design changes, the ability to implement any design changes, the availability of customer resources to complete any re-qualification or re-testing that may be needed, the ability to maintain favorable working relationships with Emulex suppliers of serializer/deserializer (SerDes) modules and the ability to obtain a settlement that does not put Emulex at a competitive disadvantage. In addition, the fact that the economy generally, and the technology and storage segments specifically, have been in a state of uncertainty makes it difficult to determine if past experience is a good guide to the future and makes it impossible to determine if markets will grow or shrink in the short term. The current economic downturn and the resulting disruptions in world credit and equity markets that are creating economic uncertainty for Emulex's customers and the storage networking market as a whole has, and could, continue to adversely affect Emulex's revenues and results of operations. Furthermore, the effect of any actual or potential unsolicited offers to acquire Emulex may have an adverse effect on Emulex's operations. As a result of these uncertainties, Emulex is unable to predict its future results with any accuracy. Other factors affecting these forward-looking statements include, but are not limited to, the following: faster than anticipated decline in the storage networking market; slower than expected growth of the storage networking market or the failure of Emulex's Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers to successfully incorporate Emulex products into their systems; Emulex's dependence on a limited number of customers and the effects of the loss of, decrease in or delays of orders by any such customers, or the failure of such customers to make timely payments; the emergence of new or stronger competitors as a result of consolidation movements in the market; the timing and market acceptance of Emulex products or Emulex OEM customers' new or enhanced products; costs associated with entry into new areas of the storage technology market; the variability in the level of Emulex's backlog and the variable and seasonal procurement patterns of Emulex's customers; any inadequacy of Emulex's intellectual property protection and the costs of actual or potential third-party claims of infringement and any related indemnity obligations or adverse judgments; impairment charges, including but not limited to goodwill and intangible assets; changes in tax rates or legislation; the effects of acquisitions; the effects of terrorist activities; natural disasters, such as the earthquake and resulting tsunami off the coast of Japan in March 2011 and the significant flooding in various parts of Thailand in October 2011, and any resulting disruption in Emulex's supply chain or customer purchasing patterns or any other resulting economic or political instability; the highly competitive nature of the markets for Emulex products as well as pricing pressures that may result from such competitive conditions; the effects of changes in Emulex's business model to separately charge for software; the effect of rapid migration of customers towards newer, lower cost product platforms; possible transitions from board or box level to application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) solutions for selected applications; a shift in unit product mix from higher-end to lower-end or mezzanine card products; a faster than anticipated decrease in the average unit selling prices or an increase in the manufactured cost of Emulex products; delays in product development; Emulex's reliance on third-party suppliers and subcontractors for components and assembly; Emulex's ability to attract and retain key technical personnel; Emulex's ability to benefit from research and development activities; Emulex's dependence on international sales and internationally produced products; changes in accounting standards; and the potential effects of global warming and any resulting regulatory changes on Emulex's business. These and other factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those in the forward-looking statements are also discussed in Emulex's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including its recent filings on Forms 8-K, 10-K and 10-Q. Statements in this release are based on current expectations and, except as required by law, Emulex undertakes no obligation to revise or update any forward-looking statements for any reason.
