Teradata Big Analytics Appliance Enables New Business Insights on All Enterprise Data
Deeply integrated Aster and Apache Hadoop solution delivers fastest SQL and MapReduce analytics with unified system management
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradata(NYSE: TDC), the leading analytic data solutions company, today introduced the Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance, which is the industry's first unified big analytics appliance. The Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance brings together open source Apache Hadoop and Teradata Aster into a single highly- integrated and optimized appliance. With the Teradata Aster patented SQL-MapReduce and Aster SQL-H, the Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance provides users with transparent access to Hadoop and provides unique business analytics to a broad set of knowledge workers. The appliance offers pre-packaged ready-to-run analytical functions such as digital marketing optimization, social network analysis, fraud detection, and analysis of machine-generated data in just hours.
Today, organizations are concerned about the integration, optimization, performance and skills required to deploy big data solutions. The enterprise-ready Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance breaks down the barriers that traditionally slow down adoption of big data analytics. Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance brings the most sophisticated packaging in the market. With flexible configuration options, companies can configure Aster Database and open source Hadoop all in a single integration cabinet.
The Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance is designed for demanding analytics, which require more computational power, memory, and data movement. This appliance offers up to 19 times better data throughput and performs analytics up to 35 times faster than a typical off-the-shelf commodity bundle. The Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance has ample memory and high bandwidth interconnects to support extreme analytic execution, and it is packaged to require less space in the data center than off-the-shelf offerings.
With the Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance, customers can adopt MapReduce and Hadoop technologies without extensive training. The appliance offers customers a discovery platform that delivers a ready-to-run solution optimized for rapid, on-the-fly data exploration, and innovative big analytics insights.
"The Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance offers the faster path from diverse big data acquisition to big insights, and seamlessly delivers these insights to the business owners," said Scott Gnau, president, Teradata Labs. "Unmatched by any other stack in the industry, it enables organizations to overcome the barriers to big data analytics and provides a high-definition view of the business to optimize operations."
Industries such as retail, ecommerce, consumer packaged goods, communications and financial services needing deeper insights into consumer behavior can use the new Teradata appliance capabilities to harness multi-structured data from social media, Web clickstream, Twitter streams, call center activities, and other types of customer interaction data. When these industries tap digital channels, they have a more accurate picture of their consumers' interests, needs and motivations to buy, and sentiment toward their brand. However, game-changing insightsare achieved by using the Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance to combine the analysis of the digital channels with more structured customer data from point-of-sale systems. Retailers can benefit from a comprehensive discovery platform with ultra-fast investigative analytics.
"Big Analytics offers the opportunity for break-through approaches to discovery-based analytics in old data as well as in new," said Merv Adrian, research vice president, Gartner. "When we add big analytics to big data and begin to use information that's in other formats other than relational database rows - like Web logs, content management systems and clouds of instruments on the Internet, we wind up with data types that are compressed into formats that first need to be teased apart for analysis. Gartner clients tell us that combining scored, processed 'outside data' with data inside our relational databases is where all the added value is."
"As Apache( )Hadoop moves from early adopters to the main stream, organizations require enterprise-class, unified system management and the ability to tightly integrate with their existing analytical tools to ensure success," said Rob Bearden, chief executive officer, Hortonworks. "The combination of Teradata's world-class data management and analytics capabilities, with the unmatched reliability of Hortonworks Data Platform, provides a truly unified, high-performance big data analytics architecture for the enterprise."
Teradata provides customers the ability to leverage new data types, emerging analytic technologies, and best-of-breed partner tools. Follow this link to view partners' comments about the new Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance.

Shopkick's New User Interface Takes Catalogs and Sunday Circulars Mobile; Reminds Shoppers of Items 'Liked' at Home When They Enter a Store
Shopkick Gives Retailer and Brand Alliance More Ways to Add Shopper Value and Impact Purchase - Building the First Interactive Arc from the Couch to the Store
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Shopkick, the largest real-world shopping app, today reveals a completely re-imagined look and user interface enhanced with more chances for shoppers to earn rewards, and an entirely new way for brands and retailers to engage in an ongoing dialogue with them - from browsing stores and products at home all the way through the time of in-store purchase.
Each new element of shopkick (3.0) benefits both partners and shoppers, who can now:
-- Discover: Anytime, anywhere browsing of content-rich 'lookbooks'
reveals must-have items by store or brand. Replaces a stack of
catalogues; convenient without clutter!
-- Save: Simply drag and tag desired products - then walk into a partner
store, and an on-screen reminder will display when those saved products
are available
-- Locate: A quick glance reveals high-value shopping areas, making it
simple to plan the most fruitful route that also minimizes the number of
trips taken
See how shopkick works and the new design here (video): http://youtu.be/ejx1LdgcUPA
Shopkick has already driven incremental revenue to its 13 retail partners and users have logged more than 10 million physical store walk-ins and 20 million in-store interactions with its 50+ brand partners' products. Its rapid success helped make shopkick the most-often-used shopping app - with over three hours of use each month per user. It's the 4(th) most widely used shopping app after eBay, Amazon and Groupon, and ahead of any physical retailer's own app - this was part of why the World Economic Forum (WEF) named shopkick a Tech Pioneer 2013.
So why change?
"After two years in the market, we took a deep look at what we've learned from our users and partners, and asked ourselves, 'If shopkick didn't exist, then how would we build it based on everything we know now?'" said Cyriac Roeding, CEO and co-founder of shopkick.
Shopkick usage patterns revealed intent generation at its best. Shopkickers log on nine days per month, and on six of those days they are not at the store, they are at home on the couch or at work, browsing new offers and planning their next shopping trip. This was only one of the insights into user behavior that motivated the shopkick team to make the experience even better -- for shoppers and partners.
"Shopkick 3.0 is all about inspiring our users to visit the stores they love, find products they should know about, and remember the ones they saved at home by alerting them when they walk into the store to get their walk-in rewards ," continued Roeding. "Shopkickers will now be rewarded for browsing their favorite retailers and products, so with more ways to accumulate rewards. We've created a beautiful app that encourages our users to treat themselves."
It is a convenient way for shoppers to learn about products in a way that naturally aligns with behavior in the physical world, only now made even better through rewards. It is the digital overlay on the physical store experience, with personalization, entertainment and rewards.
For retailers, shopkick brings more informed shoppers to the store; those who have previously seen what they offer. And, they come to the store not just for discounts, but for the things they already know they love and will most likely want to buy. For brand manufacturers, shopkick provides better, more frequent ways to connect with shoppers, letting them influence and inspire intent to shop all along the path to purchase, from the couch all the way to the cash register.
Shopkick gives partners a way to connect with shoppers:
-- Daily: High-impact mobile 'lookbooks' let people browse, select
favorites, and earn kicks from the couch or on the go
-- Weekly: From weekend grocery and quick errands to trips to the mall,
shopkick engages people by rewarding walk-ins at favorite stores or
interacting with brands
-- Monthly: Kicks -- the high-value, cross-partner currency earned by
browsing, scanning and visiting stores -- can be redeemed for all sorts
of treats, from store gift cards to dinners, movie tickets and song
downloads
Since shopkick was first available, a little over two years ago, it has added dozens of national retailers and top brands, making it the one platform that gives people a way to turn everyday errands into a truly valuable experience.
In 2012, shopkick:
-- Hit over 1 billion in-app deals viewed and 1 billion in-app views of
retailers
-- Nearly doubled product scans; more than 20 million, from 10 million in
January 2012, 7 million in August 2011 and 3 million in February 2011
-- Crossed 10 million verified walk-ins to partner stores in September
2012, up from 2 million in August 2011
-- Surpassed 4 million users
Shopkick is available for free on the iPhone from the App Store at http://www.itunes.com/appstore/ and for Android from Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shopkick.app.

"The World's First 10Gbps Full-line Rate 'Software-based' Network Emulator
Appliance"
IPExpo, iTrinegy announces the creation of the world's first flexible 10Gbps full-line
rate 'software-based' network emulator appliance, that offers unparalleled flexibility and
price-performance compared with traditional hardware-only based models. This announcement
strengthens iTrinegy [http://www.itrinegy.com ] as a global company with one of the
broadest range of network emulators available.
Until now, full-line rate network emulators have been almost totally hardware-based
and it was assumed that the very high levels of precision and accuracy they offered could
not be achieved using a substantially software based approach. The developers at iTrinegy
have now broken this trend and released the first ever high speed, high precision
software-based full-line rate network emulator.
Frank Puranik, Product Director at iTrinegy "We initially developed INE Xtreme for our
customers who needed to achieve ultra-high speeds of 10Gbps, while offering features not
available in hardware based emulators, with the confidence that no matter what the
circumstances, those speeds would be maintained." Frank continues with a smile "We like a
challenge and with established hardware players in this space wrongly stating that it
couldn't be done - it gave us a tremendous satisfaction when we did it!."
Frank continues "Just a few years ago 10Gbps was predominantly the realm of the
telecoms and specialist network equipment companies, but now these types of networks are
becoming mainstream and now due to our software architecture we can accommodate the
changing needs of customers in days rather than months."
INE Extreme will suit organisations such as Network Carriers, Network Equipment
Manufacturers (NEMs), Banks and any other organizations that need to test cutting-edge,
high-speed technologies like cryptographic units, set-top boxes, routers, switches,
storage etc., in order to expose and thus eliminate their potential weaknesses. INE Xtreme
is a specialist "Circuit-in-a-Box" network emulator that complements iTrinegy's existing
range of "generalist" network emulators (10Mbps to 10Gbps).
Some of the key benefits that INE Extreme offers are:
- Full stress testing of new networked applications, protocols and devices
- Confidence that applications and services will perform in high speed networks
even when these networks are not quite perfect.
- Ensuring that any changes to networked applications will not cause loss of
productivity
- Faster turnaround of any specialised emulation needs
- Great price/performance achieved
Companies globally use iTrinegy's network emulators
[http://www.itrinegy.com/index.php/products/network-emulators/ine-lcd ] to validate the
performance of new (or existing) applications, protocols and devices in a wide variety of
replicated environments such as Cloud Networks, Wide Area Networks (WANs), Wireless LANs,
GPRS, 3G, LTE, IP over Radio / Radio over IP (RoIP), Satellite or MPLS networks. As a
result, they can be confident that applications will work and perform as expected, without
the need for expensive retrospective fixing, re-coding or re-designing, when rolled-out
into the live network.
About iTrinegy: iTrinegy develops products that enable organizations to address the
whole Networked Application Performance Lifecycle(TM) from initial design & development,
through testing, QA, to production rollout and on-going performance monitoring. Many
leading organizations deploy iTrinegy technology including Alcatel, Aviva, BlackRock, BT,
HP, General Dynamics, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Logica, Raytheon, Thomson Reuters,

Cablevision Mexico and Norwood Light Broadband successfully implemented SCDMA technology in North America and Latin America; Solution doubles operators' upstream throughput potential using existing DOCSIS® standards
ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2012 -- At the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Motorola Mobility today announced the industry's first successful deployment of the innovative DOCSIS Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (SCDMA) technology at Cablevision Mexico in Latin America and is in the final stages of testing at Norwood Light Broadband in North America. Leveraging the BSR 64000 Cable Modem Termination System/Edge Router and its high-density RX48 Decoupled Upstream Module, the DOCSIS SCDMA technology allows cable operators large and small to extend the spectrum that may be utilized in the limited upstream portion of the HFC network thereby enhancing their High Speed Internet service offering.
Building on the company's heritage of spearheading broadband network evolution, Motorola's field-ready SCDMA solution is a standardized specification designed to optimize the 5 MHz to 42 MHz of the DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 5 MHz to 65 MHz upstream portion of the RF spectrum. Motorola's SCDMA technology addresses a common challenge for many cable operators that occurs when excess impulse and ingress noise impacts throughput performance on high speed DOCSIS broadband networks. By enabling SCDMA, cable operators can gain back once unusable or low performing upstream spectrum below 20 Mhz and above 40Mhz for DOCSIS. By doing so, cable operators worldwide can maximize investments in their current broadband infrastructure efficiently and cost-effectively boost cable upstream speeds, which support symmetrical business services, video conferencing, and cloud based services.
Customers deploying Motorola's SCDMA solution will also leverage Motorola's industry-leading noise immunity and receiver sensitivity that is available on today's RX48 Upstream Module. Together with SCDMA, these capabilities help Operators to further expand their RF spectrum usage and enable support for additional value added services to their customers.
"Although at a slower rate of growth than downstream broadband, demand for upstream capacity continues to increase at a rate of approximately 1.3x annually. With SCDMA activated, operators can easily establish higher tier upstream services by simply leveraging once unusable portions of the existing upstream RF spectrum," said Sean Welch, Vice President of Network Infrastructure at Motorola Mobility. "These SCDMA deployments - an industry first - reinforce Motorola's vision of responsible network evolution that provides our customers confidence that we continue to innovate and offer the most cost effective approaches to maximize their investments and extend the lifecycle and value of our BSR 64000."
"DOCSIS SCDMA is one of the best kept secrets in the myriad of DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 features and applications. Motorola's expertise in network characterization and SCDMA demonstrates Motorola's ongoing commitment to innovate and support the ever changing needs of cable operators," said Israel Madiedo, CTO of Cablevision SA de CV. "People are naturally consuming more bandwidth as new devices, such as smartphones and tablets, continue to proliferate. Motorola's SCDMA solution enables us to address the growing strain these connected devices, cloud-based services and Internet traffic place on the return path."
DOCSIS SCDMA was first introduced in the DOCSIS 2.0 standards. It was often trialed, but initial growth in upstream bandwidth was easily handled within the 20MHx to 40 MHz portion of the upstream RF spectrum. Fast forward, the demand for upstream bandwidth is now exceeding the 20MHz to 40Mhz throughput capacity and the need to find new upstream capacity is happening now. As content continues to migrate to IP and network requirements evolve, SCDMA combined with the RX48 empowers cable operators through a solution that extends the utility of the cable broadband network allowing for more competitive service offerings and supporting future IP technology.
Key benefits of BSR 64000 DOCSIS SCDMA include:
-- Higher peak speeds in the upstream by enabling more channels for DOCSIS
3.0 bonding
-- Higher speed to legacy DOCSIS 2.0 modem users through improved
modulation capacity
-- The ability to deliver 100 Mbps of broadband throughput using only three
bonded DOCSIS channels, where competitors need four bonded channels
-- Achieving rates as high as 140 Mbps using four bonded DOCSIS channels
-- Deferred HFC plant upgrades driven by upstream capacity restraints

BUYSTAND Launches Game Changing E-Commerce Shopping Experience
DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- BUYSTAND(TM), a Durham, N.C. e-commerce start-up, today announced the beta-launch of buystand.com, an online marketplace for active lifestyle goods that fundamentally changes the way products are bought and sold online. BUYSTAND provides retailers with the ability to more responsively price products and move inventory, capturing higher margins in the process, while offering consumers the first-ever opportunity to set their own price for retail goods.
At BUYSTAND, consumers search and browse thousands of active lifestyle and outdoor sports products from many of the industry's leading brands such as Burton, Vans, Puma, Merrell, and Salomon. BUYSTAND enables consumers to make-an-offer on these products at the price they're willing to pay. BUYSTAND's EDGE Pricing Engine(TM) matches those offers to retailers who are willing to sell at that price. This completely novel shopping experience enables consumers to purchase products at their own unique price point while simultaneously providing retailers with a platform to more dynamically and profitably move product from their shelves. Rather than waiting to make substantial price reductions in large quantities of inventory during a sale, retailers can capture the margin left by those markdowns by more accurately and consistently selling products at each price point on the product's demand curve.
"While information technology has upended and improved many basic aspects of our lives, the way we price goods has so far remained untouched," said Joe Davy, CEO of BUYSTAND. "By empowering both retailers and consumers with quicker access to better information, we are drastically changing the way e-commerce goods are priced in a way that benefits everyone and will cause the old way of buying and selling to be forgotten."
BUYSTAND addresses one of the biggest challenges facing both retailers and consumers: imperfect pricing. Imperfect pricing forces consumers to waste time waiting for markdowns and looking for used or knock-off substitutes on-line. Retailers and brands are inhibited by a lack of information and the lack of a mechanism for dynamically clearing inventory, causing large margins to be left on the table with inefficient and imprecise sales. BUYSTAND redefines the e-commerce experience for both sides of the market by offering two revolutionary products - Make-An-Offer Shopping(TM) for consumers and the EDGE Pricing Engine(TM) for retailers and brands - that will change the way goods are bought and sold online.
"BUYSTAND has built an incredible pricing technology and is providing an unparalleled e-commerce shopping experience," said BUYSTAND's Founder and COO Ted Kraus. "When consumers have control over how much they pay for a product and retailers gain the information and ability to more intelligently and responsively move inventory and capture margin, both sides win. Brands also benefit because BUYSTAND never publishes markdowns and therefore protects brand equity."
BUYSTAND, which was initially backed by 8 Rivers Capital in Durham, N.C., has been building its product, team, and inventory in stealth for the last several months and is pleased to be launching with many of the top brands and retailers in the active lifestyle market.
Active lifestyle enthusiasts are encouraged to sign up at buystand.com for access to the beta product.
About BUYSTAND:
BUYSTAND is a buyer-driven marketplace for active lifestyle goods including footwear, apparel, and equipment from many of the industry's leading brands. BUYSTAND's mission is to redefine commerce by empowering consumers with Make-An-Offer Shopping(TM).
BUYSTAND is powered by the EDGE Pricing Engine(TM), which enables the BUYSTAND marketplace to be fully automated, anonymous and real-time. By combining buyer-driven shopping with data driven pricing, BUYSTAND helps the consumer goods market clear inventory more efficiently than ever before.

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Leap Wireless International, Inc. (NASDAQ: LEAP), today announced the launch of 4G LTE service in its Cricket Las Vegas market. This introduction marks the second Cricket market launch in the Company's planned, multi-year introduction of 4G LTE technology for smartphones to its customers. The Company initially launched its LTE service in its Tucson, Ariz. market in December, 2011.
"The introduction of Cricket 4G LTE in Las Vegas is another milestone in our transition to LTE as we continue to offer our customers high-quality products and services with the latest technology and the value they've come to expect," said Doug Hutcheson, president and CEO of Leap. Leap expects to offer 4G LTE service for smartphones across at least two-thirds of its network footprint over the next two to three years. NEW YORK, October 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
NICE Actimize, a NICE Systems (NASDAQ:NICE) business and the largest and broadest
provider of a single financial crime, risk and compliance software platform for the
financial services industry, is implementing its solutions at Iowa-based MetaBank (NASDAQ:
CASH) to support the company's financial crime risk strategy for MetaBank and Meta Payment
Systems, its electronic payments division.
MetaBank will utilize the Actimize Enterprise Risk Case Manager platform to provide a
360-degree view of enterprise risk across its business lines, to ensure compliance with
the Bank Secrecy and US Patriot Act requirements and to reduce its operational expenses.
Actimize's Suspicious Activity Monitoring and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) Anti-Money
Laundering solutions will support Metabank's efforts to protect consumers and set the
stage for tighter pre-paid industry crime prevention standards.
According to Debra Geister, Senior Vice President, AML/Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) at
MetaBank, the institution will leverage the Actimize single platform approach and will add
additional Actimize fraud solutions later this year to complete the organization's
enterprise view of financial crime risk. The NICE Actimize solutions provide MetaBank with
flexibility and the ability to detect suspicious patterns of activity across
organizational silos as well as reduce operational expenses and risk by scaling to support
the increasing demands inherent when processing millions of transactions per day.

comprehensive risk platform to support MetaBank's future growth and evolving
requirements." said Geister. "The company's investment to manage financial crime risk is
setting the stage to better protect consumers, to detect suspicious activity and to
proactively identify fraudulent usage trends in the prepaid industry."
"Creating a 360-degree view of the organization and of the customer, along with
establishing consistency in monitoring suspicious activities, provide powerful benefits to
a bank," said Amir Orad, President and CEO of NICE Actimize. "In addition, regulators are
reviewing consistency in compliance implementation at banks. Our experience helping
financial institutions develop and execute comprehensive and unique financial crime
strategies allows us to assist MetaBank in addressing these challenges, while
simultaneously providing a solid foundation that supports their future challenges and
operational requirements."

remediation of financial crime. With its customer-centric, enterprise-wide financial crime
prevention capabilities, NICE Actimize enables financial institutions to address money

to better serve customers.
Each of the NICE Actimize solutions used at MetaBank can be easily integrated into a
larger enterprise financial crime framework. NICE Actimize solutions share a common
technology platform, which offers IT cost benefits, operational efficiencies, and

OpenTable Debuts Free Mobile-Friendly Sites for Restaurants in the UK
- Free service is designed to help restaurateurs capitalise on the shift to mobile devices by making restaurant websites mobile-friendly
LONDON, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenTable (NASDAQ: OPEN), a leading provider of free, real-time online restaurant reservations for diners and reservation and guest management solutions for restaurants, together with toptable, the company's leading consumer destination site for restaurant reservations in the UK, today introduced a free service that makes it easy for its restaurant customers to optimise their websites for mobile devices.
The new service is designed to help restaurateurs capitalise on the massive shift toward mobile by making restaurant websites more user-friendly and functional on smartphones. The service, powered by DudaMobile, is quick and easy to use and the before and after results are dramaticwithout sacrificing the branding and elegance of the restaurant's desktop website.
"More than ever, diners are choosing where to eat and making bookings based on information accessed on their mobile devices, yet the majority of restaurant websites are not designed for mobile use," said Mike Xenakis, Managing Director of OpenTable Europe. "By removing the added time and cost required to create and host mobile-friendly sites, we are making it simple for restaurants to reap the benefits of the shift to mobile."
According to the latest Ofcom Communications Market Report, 39 percent of adults in the UK now own a smartphone and the same percentage indicates their phone is the most important device for accessing the internet. Yet OpenTable estimates that fewer than 10 percent of reservation-taking restaurants have mobile optimised sites.
Consistent with increased smartphone usage, OpenTable has experienced a growing number of diners who are choosing to book via mobile devices. In the second quarter of 2012, reservations booked on mobile devices accounted for 20 percent of diners seated in the UK. In North America OpenTable has seated more than 30 million diners through reservations booked on mobile devices, representing more than $1 billion (£623m) in revenue for OpenTable restaurant customers (based on a check average of $42.50 (£26.5) per person as reported by OpenTable restaurant customers)[i].
"We are increasingly aware that our guests explore where to dine, access vital information and ultimately want to make a booking through their mobile device," said Didier Souillat, Chief Operating Officer of Hakkasan Ltd. "OpenTable is making it easy for us to stay on top of the shift to mobile by providing a simple way to create a mobile-friendly site, ensuring our guests have access to the information they seek, quickly and efficiently."
To take advantage of the free service, OpenTable restaurant customers in the UK, U.S. and Canada must claim their mobile site through OpenTable Restaurant Center before 1 February 2013. Customers who sign-up by the deadline will enjoy the service for free as long as they're an OpenTable customer and comply with the terms and conditions of the service. Customers who sign up after 31 January 2013 will have access to the service for a nominal monthly fee. Restaurants interested in becoming customers of OpenTable can learn more by visiting the Restaurateurs: Join Us section of the OpenTable website.

Angus MacSween, CEO, iomart Group plc, said: "We are investing millions of pounds over
the next decade to give iomart one of the fastest and most resilient fibre networks of any
cloud computing company in the UK. Customers on our network will have the fastest
connections allowing them to move huge amounts of data at the highest speeds wherever they
are located. It allows us to take our network right up to our customers' doors which is of
huge benefit to organisations wanting secure, private cloud environments."
The new fibre network will provide a 1,860 kilometre business critical fibre
superhighway linking iomart's six data centre locations in London, Glasgow, Manchester,
Maidenhead, Nottingham and Leicester. Connectivity between iomart Group's Glasgow and
London data centres will be four times faster than the current industry average.
Angus MacSween added: "This will significantly increase our current capacity and
national reach, ensuring that we can provide customers with unlimited bandwidth and
greater reliability and security, increasing their capability and potential to grow."
Chris Smedley, Chief Executive of Geo commented, "Geo's business is all about
providing dedicated fibre private network solutions to high growth businesses like iomart.
These high performance networks give our customers scalability, security, speed of
deployment and control and are the ideal solution for market-leading cloud computing and
hosting businesses. We welcome iomart to our growing customer base and are confident that
its customers will be delighted with the services they receive over this new fibre
network."

Pulsant Pushes Cloud to the Max with Advanced Infrastructure Platform & 'Triple A' Service
READING, England, October 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
New Enterprise Cloud solution - faster, leaner and greener than ever before
Cloud, connectivity and hosting experts, Pulsant, are launching a new Enterprise
Cloud, which surpasses current cloud performance levels by offering unlimited capacity and
unrivalled speed backed by enterprise standard service level agreements (SLAs) and
customer-focused 'Triple A' support.
The first cloud proposition in the UK to be built around HP's latest Gen 8 severs,
Pulsant's cloud also harnesses the power of Intel E5 chips and the latest version of
VMware's Hypervisor virtualization software, to deliver an infrastructure that outperforms
previous configurations. Pulsant confirms that its new servers produce a six fold
performance increase for the most demanding workloads and applications as well as 70% more
compute per watt and 66% faster time to resolution.
Unlike many commodity-style clouds, Pulsant's Enterprise cloud infrastructure is
supported by measurable SLAs. It is also backed by the company's 'Triple A' service model
which ensures customers have the right 'Access, Ability and Action' to support them 24/7 -
all delivered from multiple operational sites within the UK.
Mark Howling, CEO of Pulsant, states, "We have been delivering cloud solutions for
over ten years. What we are bringing to market now is true next generation cloud - it's
not just an upgrade or enhancement. The servers, which are a result of a GBP300 million
investment by HP, are faster, leaner and more powerful than anything we have seen before.
With this advanced platform, Pulsant can truly deliver on cloud's promise of unlimited
scalability, total flexibility, quicker access and processing. Our customer trails have
recorded a 40-50% increase in speed. They have also shown a 20% reduction in power usage
which means that our cloud platform is significantly greener too."
Pulsant's Enterprise Cloud solution is ideal for those who want to push cloud to the
max with 'big' data applications or complex analytics also for handling real-time, high
volume transactions such as e-commerce and online retailing. It is also perfect for
mid-tier and rapidly growing organisations looking to migrate to a reliable high
performance cloud platform that delivers enterprise orientated security, high resilience
and elastic capacity within a supportive and competitively priced service framework.
Pulsant actively encourages transparency and believes that cloud providers should be
able to supply specify infrastructure details and cloud locations as part of their client
contracts. With its Enterprise Cloud it also champions the practice of 'build your own
cloud' which allows customers to customize their cloud environment in line with their own
operational requirements.
Howling reinforces, "At Pulsant we use world class technology from leading vendors in
solutions shaped to fit our client's businesses. Our investment policy ensures that
infrastructure is continually updated and that servers are replaced at least every three
years. For many of our customers where governance and latency are issues, it is also
important that they know where their data is. Our Enterprise Cloud is delivered from the
UK, from Pulsant's wholly owned ISO 27001 compliant, Tier 3 data centres. We can even
offer multiple-sites for cloud back up to create true remote mirroring from nationally
dispersed sites for all critical data applications."

highly resilient, high quality IP network, co-location, managed application and cloud
hosting. It supports more than 3,000 mid-tier and enterprise customers from its eight

Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka, is pleased to cordially invite you to an exclusive
VIP cocktail reception.
Date: Wednesday, 17 October 2012
Time: 5:00 pm
Venue: Hotel Galadari
Key industry representatives will discuss the future of this sector in Sri Lanka and
mark the official launch of 'Sri Lanka Pharma Week'.
Sri Lanka Pharma Week will address the industry's burning issues: Bioavailability and
Bioequivalence requirements, Pharma Sales Force Effectiveness and Automation, and Supply
Chain and Distribution. Industry experts will provide their expert insights through their
own experiences.
Sri Lanka Pharma Week will address the industry's burning issues: Bioavailability and
Bioequivalence requirements, Pharma Sales Force Effectiveness and Automation, and
finishing on the topic of Pharma Supply Chain and Distribution. Industry experts will
provide their understanding of the given topics on display, while demonstrating relevant
procedures through case studies and speeches to delegates. Here's a quick insight on what
the speakers at this event have to say about these issues in Sri Lanka
Mr K ShivKumar, Managing Director, Eisai Pharmaceuticals India, talks about the SFE
and SFA in pharmaceutical business, "SFE will be the key in exploiting the expanding SL
market. SFE will help in targeting the right customers by the sales force by answering the
key questions like - which markets, which target audience, why and how, how often and with
the right message. SFE will decide who will be the winners and losers"
Mr Himanshu Saxena, Vice President Supply Chain International Business, Alembic
Pharmaceuticals says "Supply chain and distribution is the most critical aspect of the
pharmaceutical business to ensure that drugs are delivered to the end patient quickly and
in safe conditions". He adds that "Even if the manufacturing and production of drugs is
done using GMP norms, the products remain unfit for consumption if the safety of the drugs
is compromised en route to the end patient and since the pharmaceutical organisations in
Sri Lanka are custodians of the products, it is imperative that they ensure efficient
distribution network so that the patients can consume quality drugs and in time." When
asked about his views on the Sri Lanka pharma week, here's what he had to say "Emerging
countries like Sri Lanka can draw learnings on novel strategies adopted by countries like
India who have passed this stage and are still successfully dealing with similar
infrastructure issues in some of the states. At this forum, the Indian pharma supply chain
experts would be discussing practical implementable technologies to manage the supply
chain to maintain adequate stocks and manage demand cycles. This would eventually reduce
the pressure on the business and ensure that the sales are not affected."
Bansri Shah, Managing Director, UBM (CPhI) says "We are grateful to Mr. Shalutha and
the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka for their help and support towards the development
of 'Sri Lanka Pharma Week'.
"It also gives me immense pleasure to bring our largest brand CPhI to the rapidly
growing industry in Sri Lanka and we would like to extend a warm invitation to the
pharmaceutical fraternity to participate in this knowledge sharing."

iDirect Achieves 100 Mbps With Evolution X7 Remote
Next-generation remote powers high-bandwidth applications, unleashes the performance of high throughput satellites
HERNDON, Va., Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems Inc. (VT Systems), today announced key performance statistics for the Evolution X7 remote, the first in a family of next-generation remotes that have been optimized to deliver best-in-class Adaptive TDMA throughput performance and operate with high throughput satellites. Built on an entirely new multi-core hardware system, the X7 can reach up to 100 Mbps of combined inbound and outbound throughput, with more than 20 Mbps on the return channel alone. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.
The Evolution X7 leverages dual DVB-S2 demodulators with fully independent RF chains. This makes it uniquely suited to support a robust suite of enterprise voice and data services while simultaneously receiving up to 12 shared, high-definition multicast channels over the same or a second transponder or satellite. The X7 also features an embedded 8-port switch, which provides unrivaled flexibility for physically segregating multiple end user traffic groups based on VLAN tags when coupled with the iDirect platform's best-in-class GQoS and NMS. Additionally, the new remote comes with multiple embedded PSU configurations to power higher wattage BUCs.
The X7 enables service providers to deliver high-bandwidth data rates while utilizing the iDirect Intelligent Platform's Adaptive TDMA shared return. For example, service providers in the maritime, cruise, oil & gas, and mining markets can efficiently deliver basic voice and data traffic, while also managing bandwidth-heavy business applications and multicast services like IP TV. Further, cellular backhaul providers can meet the throughput requirements for demanding, large cell sites as mobile operators expand 3G and 4G networks in remote areas.
"With the X7, iDirect has achieved a breakthrough in packets-per-second performance. Our partners can now deliver data speeds on a TDMA platform that until now have only been possible on an SCPC dedicated link. This is just the first step in our ambitious plan to equip our partners to meet escalating customer demands for satellite bandwidth, while capturing the market opportunities that high throughput satellites will bring."
~ Dave BETTINGER
Chief Technology Officer, iDirect
"The X7 is a critical development that positions the iDirect platform as a go-to solution for high bandwidth applications. With the next-generation design of the X7, iDirect has once again lived up to its reputation as an innovator in the satellite industry at a time when demand for high-throughput service is exploding and satellite is poised to become a mainstream connectivity solution."
