Retailer Invites Americans to Vote in Fourth 7-Election(TM) Presidential Coffee Cup Poll
DALLAS, Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Every four years, some things happen like clockwork - leap year, the summer and winter Olympic games, U.S. presidential elections, and with it, 7-Eleven(®)'s 7-Election((TM))Presidential Coffee Cup Poll.
In past years, millions of everyday Americans have participated in the 7-Election vote as they go about their daily routines. While many states offer early voting that typically begins a few days before Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 6), the 2012 7-Election voting starts really early - September.
Billed as unabashedly unofficial and unscientific, 7-Election invites customers to vote by selecting specially marked coffee cups, blue for President Barack Obama and red for former Gov. Mitt Romney. 7-Eleven's regular "nonpartisan" cups are also available for undecided customers or those who would rather not publicize their presidential preference. Patriotic coffee-drinkers can vote at participating 7-Eleven stores as early and as often as they want in the two months leading up to the national election.
7-Election cups are instantly tabulated at the register when the sale is made. Mobile Oval Tour - This political party bus is on the campaign trail, crossing the country starting on CofFREE Day, Friday, Sept. 28 through Election Day, Nov. 6. IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- HGST (formerly Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and now a Western Digital company, NASDAQ: WDC) today announced a new helium-filled hard disk drive (HDD) platform, which is at the forefront of advanced technology for increasing capacity and significantly reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprise and cloud customers.
With products expected in 2013, the new platform enables HGST to go beyond its award-winning five-platter design, providing a path for higher capacity storage and lower customer TCO for years to come. With industry-wide challenges in scaling current areal density technologies, this new platform allows HGST to design seven-platter drives in a standard 3.5-inch form factor that will cost-effectively extend the capacity and cost-per-gigabyte curve for many product generations to come. In addition, the inherent benefits of the platform, including the helium fill, allow HGST to significantly improve datacenter TCO on virtually every level: capacity, power, cooling and storage density.
New Platform for Reducing TCO
With the explosion of data resulting from mobile devices, Internet services, social media and business applications, corporate, cloud and big data customers are constantly looking for ways to improve their storage infrastructure costs and their bottom line. Also, new storage models, such as cold storage, are evolving in ways that require enormous amounts of data to be stored and available within a moment's notice. These hyperscale datacenters must deploy massive amounts of storage with the best TCO to help them manage their costs and growing storage needs. And when it comes to TCO, numbers matter most - cost-per-terabyte, watt-per-TB, TB-per-system weight and TB-per-square foot.
The density of helium is one-seventh that of air, delivering significant advantages to HGST's sealed-drive platform. The lower density means dramatically less drag force acting on the spinning disk stack so that mechanical power into the motor is substantially reduced. The lower helium density also means that the fluid flow forces buffeting the disks and the arms, which position the heads over the data tracks, are substantially reduced allowing for disks to be placed closer together (i.e., seven disks in the same enclosure) and to place data tracks closer together (i.e., allowing continued scaling in data density). The lower shear forces and more efficient thermal conduction of helium also mean the drive will run cooler and will emit less acoustic noise.

The new, helium-filled sealed-drive platform is being demonstrated today at the Western Digital Investor event in Irvine, California. At the event, HGST is comparing the power consumption between a helium-filled drive and an equivalent air-filled drive side-by-side, demonstrating a reduction in power consumption for the helium-filled drive of 23 percent. Taking into account the extra capacity coming from two additional disks, the improvement in watts-per-TB is 45 percent. In addition to consuming less power, the drive operates four degrees Celsiuscooler, requiring less cooling in the system rack and data center. This reduction in power and associated cooling cost significantly contributes to the lower TCO of the helium-filled platform. The critical watt-per-TB metric will further improve over time as the helium-filled drive platform enables significantly higher drive capacities in future product generations.
HGST will release specific capacities points and product specifications when the platform launches in 2013.

The free app for iOS and Android devices enables users to share their own creations, discover new dishes and post comments on images of what they are cooking, eating or drinking.
Users can now tap into DishPal Top 20, a collection of the most notable DishPal users and their edible creations. By checking out DishPal Top 20, foodies can explore the most loved dishes in the community, comment on the creations that appeal to them and follow the creator for future dish ideas.
Users are now able to view a Recipe of the Day, a great way to discover and create new dishes inspired by the passionate foodie community. The Recipe of the Day is chosen by the DishPal team and pulled from the cream of the crop of food blogs. Now, users can visit DishPal not only for sharing their dishes, but also for tapping into valuable recipe information.
Also, with an updated location feature, the DishPal community can tap on the location icon to tag where their dish was created. This allows other users to know where they can find the dish to try. Users simply tap the "..." button for additional information, and then tap on the location information to populate the screen with a map of the location the photo was taken. If a friend nearby posts a photo, followers can trace their tracks to try out the desired dish.
With enlarged photo size, dishes in the app look even more vivid and delicious than before. Users can show off their creative dishes as well as dishes they admire with the new share feature on every image. DishPal users can easily syndicate their posted dish images to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts to reach followers across all social platforms.
An added and optional push notification feature comes in handy when users want to be alerted when a friend or other DishPal member comments on their dish, responds to a comment or uploads a new dish. The push notifications foster in-app communication between fellow foodies, allowing users to provide feedback on a one-on-one basis.
Other unique features unique to DishPal include the Potluck Party, DishPal Magazine and foodie friendly photo filters that make your pictures look extra delicious.
