Recondo Technology Announces Recondo Financial Medical Record and Denial Reporting
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Recondo Technology, a leading provider of revenue cycle services and Proper Payments solutions for the healthcare industry, announced today the release of two new software services, the Recondo Financial Medical Record(®) and Denial Reporting(TM). These new services open up a wide range of benefits for the hospital revenue cycle and business office.
Recondo Financial Medical Record (RFMR)
Healthcare providers typically work with many transaction systems, such as Registration and Scheduling, but often don't have flexible, customizable reporting, query, or decision support capability. Traditionally, hospitals have created various data stores in multiple locations across the business office and throughout the revenue cycle.
The RFMR is a single data store composed of correlated data elements (including all historical modifications to the data). Since data is captured from the onset to the closure of the patient's medical encounter in a unified structure, regardless of origin, RFMR exposes many logical axes of interest. This collection of data allows Recondo(®) to present a complete view of financial and administrative medical status at any point in time from any perspective, including the Provider, Payer, Patient, or Financial Institution.
"This is a major step toward understanding and closing the revenue cycle loop in hospitals and Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs)," said Tyson Henry, Vice President, Database Research and Development. "Tactically, Recondo clients, using our suite of products, can leverage this single source of patient data to properly ensure compliance with eligibility, authorization of procedures, payer and patient financial responsibility, and claim status without requiring the use of various segregated, traditional hospital computer systems (HIS, billing, medical records, etc.). Strategically, our SaaS offerings use the many axes of interest to supply business intelligence in a concise, meaningful presentation to identify and improve deficiencies in the cycle."
Denial Reporting
Claims denied in error, delays in reviewing appeals, and untimely release of payment on overturned denials all contribute negatively to a hospital's financial health. Denial Reporting automates the entire denial reporting process, from initial claim to full payment. Denial Reporting loads and analyzes claims and remittance data and produces a series of standard summary and detailed month-end reports. Denial Reporting also provides users easy-to-customize tools to drill down and support specific account review. Denial Reporting is platformed on the Recondo Financial Medical Record.
Denial Reporting includes the following features and reports:
-- Number of denials received
-- Number of denials appealed
-- Number of denials overturned/upheld
-- Number of accounts and dollars with appeals and payments outstanding
-- Type of denial: clinical versus technical
-- Type of service/admission: ER, inpatient, outpatient
-- Average time between denial overturn date and payment issue date
-- Drilldown to denial specifics
-- Payer performance
"Denial Reporting exposes the data related to a denial across the entire revenue cycle," said Joe White, Recondo Vice President, Research and Development. "With the release of Denial Reporting, Recondo gives providers unprecedented insight into the source of denials and delivers to them the data they need to fix those denials before they occur."

With eight out of 10 seniors taking medications, AAA suggests tool to help keep older drivers safe
AURORA, Ill., Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 80 percent of drivers age 65 and older regularly take medications, yet only half have talked to a medical professional about possible safety issues related to driving. With 10,000 Americans turning 65 every day, AAA today promotes Roadwise Rx, a first-of-its-kind tool to help seniors understand how medications may affect their ability to drive safely.
Developed by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, Roadwise Rx is an online tool that details common side effects of prescription and over-the-counter medications. The tool generates personalized feedback on how medications, herbal supplements and foods, and their interactions with each other, can impact safety behind the wheel. Drivers are encouraged to discuss the confidential results with their doctor or pharmacist to learn how to mitigate possible crash risks.
"With seniors often visiting primary and specialty doctors regarding their different health care needs, it is important for each provider to know all medications being consumed," said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. "Roadwise Rx lets users move beyond the old-fashioned 'brown bag' review with an easy way to virtually pool together their medications and talk to their doctors."
Due to chronic medical conditions, older adults often must take multiple medications. Certain types of medications, like antidepressants, have been shown to increase crash risk by up to 41 percent. Ingredients like Diphenhydramine, commonly found in over-the-counter cold and allergy medicines, can have the same effect on driving as being above the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration.
"Earlier research by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that nearly one out of five older drivers use five or more prescription medications. With medical conditions typically on the rise as people age, and treatment often dependent on medicinal interventions, there was a critical need to develop a tool to help older drivers understand the safety risk," said AAA Foundation President and CEO Peter Kissinger. "Roadwise Rx is the only tool of its kind that looks at medications and associated driving hazards."
It is estimated that by 2020, just eight years from now, nearly one in six people will be age 65 or older and most of them will still be licensed to drive. As a leading road safety advocate for 110 years, AAA continues to provide expert advice and helpful resources for older adults and their families - working to support them as they tackle the challenge of balancing safety and mobility. SeniorDriving.AAA.com provides convenient, online access to a wealth of interactive resources including Roadwise Rx at no cost to all seniors and their families.

Kozio Closes the GAP in the Hardware Design Chain with the Introduction of a User Configurable Verification and Test OS
LONGMONT, Colo., Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kozio, Inc. (http://www.kozio.com), the leading provider of software solutions for embedded hardware design verification and production test, today announced the addition of VTOS(TM) Builder to its VTOS Suite 2.0 release. This closes the GAP in the hardware design chain with the industry's first user configurable special purpose Verification and Test OS (VTOS(TM)). Today's embedded hardware design tools do not address the hardware prototype test and verification process, creating a tool gap between design creation and production test. With this latest product release, a cost effective alternative to internally developed test programs is now available. When the first prototype arrives, VTOS provides the test platform to quickly verify a new design and debug problems. With VTOS, a new prototype can be tested for design correctness and production readiness in less than one week. The design can confidently be handed over to the software team for application development. With VTOS Builder, hardware engineers can easily configure VTOS for new prototype hardware. Companies now have a commercially available tool that can be used across multiple embedded design projects and become part of their design chain.
"Leveraging Kozio's VTOS solution has enabled us to ship our last product in record time," stated Ron Murphy, the senior hardware engineer at Sunhillo Corporation. "VTOS has helped us diagnose real issues during the prototype test phase, such as an elusive Ethernet clocking issue. We are now in the process of expanding Kozio test coverage to both our manufacturing and board burn-in processes. We are seeing significant cost savings from the reduction in our final test failure rate at our contract manufacturer."
VTOS is user configurable and can be loaded and running on custom hardware in minutes. VTOS Builder allows VTOS to be easily configured utilizing the power of a device tree without compilation. No OS porting is required. New components can easily be added and device parameters can be configured by editing the device tree. VTOS Builder then configures a new VTOS ready to boot utilizing U-Boot or JTAG. VTOS can be up and running on custom hardware in 30 minutes.
"As embedded hardware complexity grows, so do the test challenges. Companies must build in-house test solutions, requiring staff years of effort to provide the necessary test coverage and debug tools, stated Bob Potock, the vice president of marketing at Kozio, Inc. "With this release, hardware engineers now have a significant amount of power at their fingertips and can confidently hand off the prototype to software development. Companies now have a viable "buy" option when making the build vs. buy decision for test development. Companies can also benefit by using VTOS for production test."

Wireless Security System Project's Phase Two Begins in San Salvador's Metropolitan Area
-- Seguridad Inalambrica System Enables Mapping and Sharing of Information on Crimes in Real-Time to Increase Public Safety in El Salvador --
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Council of Mayors of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area (COAMSS) through its Planning Office (OPAMSS), Tigo, RTI International (RTI) and Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), through its Wireless Reach(TM) initiative, announced the expansion of the Seguridad Inalambrica (Wireless Security) project in continued collaboration with the National Civilian Police, Corps of Metropolitan Agents (CAM) of participating municipalities and the U.S. Government through its Agency for International Development (USAID).
Seguridad Inalambrica uses Qualcomm 3G wireless technology to collect and share crime information, enabling several municipalities in El Salvador to analyze patterns more effectively and improve crime and violence prevention programs. During the systems first phase, Seguridad Inalambrica enabled real-time monitoring and analysis of crime patterns and made this vital data more accessible to the National Civilian Police (PNC), the Corps of Metropolitan Agents (CAM) and the municipal government in Santa Tecla. Phase one resulted in nearly 700 reports submissions and 192 personnel received training.
In cooperation with OPAMSS, Seguridad Inalambrica is continuing operations in Santa Tecla and now expanding to additional municipalities in the San Salvador metropolitan area, including Antiguo Cuscatlan, San Martin, San Salvador, Apopa, Ciudad Delgado and Ayutuxtepeque. OPAMSS is providing key communication and coordination between all participating municipalities and agencies. The enhanced system gives the PNC and CAM participants mobile and web-based applications that allow communication between organizations and the ability to map and analyze real-time crime data via 3G technology. In the brief time since the installment of the second phase, more than 100 reports have been submitted and 127 people have been trained.
"It is necessary for municipalities and institutions to undertake joint actions in order to prevent crime," said Norman Quijano, general coordinator of COAMSS. "This is why we are pleased to announce that the Wireless Security program will be extended to include more areas within the Metropolitan region."
"Phase one of the project was an excellent experience," said Oscar Ortiz, coordinator of the COAMSS' Institutional Commission and mayor of Santa Tecla. "We had the opportunity to learn more about the real benefits of using cutting edge technology to prevent crime which enabled us to create detailed reports quickly and come up with focused policies and strategies according to the needs of each sector."
Tigo, one of the leading telecommunications providers in El Salvador with more than 2.4 million subscribers, has committed to providing the project with Android-based smartphones powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM)( )processors and 3G data services for each municipality for one year. Following feedback from the project's first phase in Santa Tecla, the smartphones in phase two are equipped with an enhanced, easy-to-use software application and an improved web interface. Participating law enforcement officers are being issued the smartphones with the Seguridad Inalambrica application, which, alongside built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) capabilities, camera and other features, is used to create detailed incident reports. Officers will have the ability to adjust GPS location to improve precision and attach photos and voice recordings to each report, which is then transmitted immediately via Tigo's 3G network to the web-based crime database application; reports also can be entered, monitored, reviewed and approved via the web-based application at police bases. In addition, municipal violence prevention observatories have direct access to the database for advanced geospatial analysis of crime patterns.
"At Tigo, one of the pillars of our Corporate Social Responsibility program is Social Welfare. Which is why, for us, it is important to participate in and support crime prevention and public safety programs," said Nina Muyshondt, marketing director for TIGO.
As part of this effort, Qualcomm's Wireless Reach initiative is providing funding to RTI International to update the system and expand the project to the additional municipalities. This funding supports project strategy, system design and development, training, implementation and management oversight.
"Seguridad Inalambrica demonstrates the extraordinary benefits that 3G wireless connectivity can bring to enhance public safety," said Carlos Sanchez, director of business development for Qualcomm Latin America. "We look forward to building on the knowledge we have gained during the first phase of the project to further expand this innovative application and system to benefit many more people in phase two."
Seguridad Inalambrica continues to create a foundation and system for crime mapping and demonstrates how the applications enabled by advanced wireless technologies can turn a mobile phone into a tool for improving the implementation of more effective crime prevention measures. The Seguridad Inalambrica project was conceived to advance crime reduction efforts and improve citizen security - to find better ways to fight crime for the people of El Salvador and elsewhere.

Pocketstock CEO Russell Glenister Makes an Audacious Effort to Slow the Growth of Subscription by Trying to Stop Shutterstock's Upcoming IPO
He plans to get contributor support for his newly formed 2ten and its 3-step plan of disruption
LONDON, September 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
With a long history, which spans over 25 years, in the stock photography sector as
both a contributor and business owner, he fears for the future of the industry and has
decided that it's time to organize a fight back. He has brought on board Social
[http://bit.ly/PeioO5 ] Placement [http://bit.ly/PeioO5 ], who have extensive campaign
experience, to help drive 2ten through the photography community, social media and to key
industry influencers.
2ten has a simple campaign request: support a fair deal for contributors.
Prices have dropped so low that the 7 leading subscription agencies are selling images
for an average of 31 cents each and according to Russell Glenister, "that's before further
ad hoc discounts. One of the Subscription Mafia7, as I call them, has been offering images
for 20 cents each, plus they'll throw in an extra $750 worth of free images for good
measure. That's not only crazy, it's an absolute slap in the face to those that own the
material and who's income depends on it."
So where will this lead and what's the plan?
Step one is to try put a stop to Shutterstock's IPO by planning a new image boycott to
coincide with the IPO launch date or until they agree to do something about their low
average price per sale.
"Shutterstock are more vulnerable to any kind of subscription boycott by
contributors," stated David Angell of Social Placement, "because they rely almost totally
on subscription sales."
"I want to get enough of the contributors that help make Shutterstock most of their
profit, to get behind the 2ten campaign. If support is strong it should pave the way to a
much fairer deal for contributors, by forcing agencies to stop selling new, valuable
content for less than $2 for the smallest file size and $10 for the largest - which is the
ultimate aim," Glenister explained further.
Step two is to get the other 6 leading subscription agencies to fall into line and
finally he plans to galvanize support from the design and advertising industries. "All
creative industries are feeling the pinch, but when those guys who buy images for 30 cents
next go to Starbucks, or wherever they buy their coffee, I'd like them to think, 'do I
value my coffee more than I value the images I buy through stock for my campaigns?'"
Glenister added.
If you are a stock contributor you can pledge your support by signing
[http://bit.ly/TFFiDO ] up [http://bit.ly/TFFiDO ] and find out more [http://bit.ly/TFFlj0
] at a specially created campaign page at Pocketstock. Image buyers will be able add their
support at a later stage.

'It's Common Sense' - JobBuzz Launches its Ad Campaign
DELHI, September 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
'You Read and Research Reviews on Cars, Mobiles, Movies and Hotels, Then why Don't you
Research Something as Important as Your Career?'
The brand promise of JobBuzz in its launch ad campaign is, "With JobBuzz
[http://jobbuzz.timesjobs.com ] you will know more about the things that matter the most.
Get in-depth information on your industry, check out company reviews, salary structure,
interview questions, company rankings and much more to plan a successful career".
Speaking about the campaign, Vikas Verma, Marketing Head, TimesJobs.com remarks, "The
JobBuzz launch campaign is a hard-hitting clarion call to shake-up young professionals
between 18-32 years with the obvious yet rarely used common sense of researching career
options before making a commitment."
"Using memorable mnemonics of the youth's interest such as cars, cinema, cash, cricket
and cellphones - this 6 part print campaign features short, sharp shocks, to bring home
the point that it is common sense to use JobBuzz and make informed career decisions," adds
Vikas.
JobBuzz [http://jobbuzz.timesjobs.com ] is being promoted as a free
employee-to-employee community where employees share their experiences about the companies
that they have worked for. This information is presented in an aggregated manner to help
people make right career decisions. And, because these reviews are written by employees
themselves and not by employers, JobBuzz gets the "true inside story" on these companies,
which is otherwise quite hard to get.
The premise of JobBuzz [http://jobbuzz.timesjobs.com ] is the adage "Information is
Power" and JobBuzz gives this as company ratings on multiple parameters, the top reasons
to work for that company, the top skills to succeed in that company, recommendations for
that company and salary data - all of which are very relevant for a future employee.
"There are many parameters around which career options are evaluated such as work life
balance, learning & development, top leadership of the company etc. However, most of the
people end up making decisions based on very short term view- for instance, just taking
compensation into account. Therefore, we wish to sensitize people to take a holistic
cognizance of these factors to ensure a successful & satisfying career," explains Vikas.
The ads will run in both online and mainline print across the nation, including
relevant career supplements and websites.
About JobBuzz

Customers to benefit from ultra-fast mobile Internet on the latest LTE devices
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* has turned on its 4G LTE** network in Rochester, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology. In New York State, the 4G LTE network is also available in Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany. Watch here to see several of the benefits AT&T 4G LTE provides, including:
-- Faster speeds. LTE technology is capable of delivering speeds faster
than many other mobile Internet technologies. Customers can stream,
download, upload and game faster than ever before.
-- Cool new devices. AT&T offers several LTE-compatible devices, including
new AT&T 4G LTE smartphones and tablets, such as the Motorola ATRIX (TM)
HD, Sony Xperia (TM) ion, HTC One(TM) X, Samsung Focus(®) 2, Nokia
Lumia 900, Samsung Galaxy Note(TM), and Pantech Element(TM) tablet.
-- Faster response time. LTE technology offers lower latency, or the
processing time it takes to move data through a network, such as how
long it takes to start downloading a webpage or file once you've sent
the request. Lower latency helps to improve services like mobile gaming,
two-way video calling and telemedicine.
-- More efficient use of spectrum. Wireless spectrum is a finite resource,
and LTE uses spectrum more efficiently than other technologies, creating
more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better
network experience.
"We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Rochester responds to what customers want from their mobile experience -- more, faster, on the best devices," said Marissa Shorenstein, AT&T president New York.
"We are pleased that AT&T has chosen to make this important investment in our community," said Sandy Parker, president and CEO of the Rochester Business Alliance. "Businesses depend on having dependable, high-speed connections to reach their customers. And this investment in our infrastructure will show businesses already here - and those who may be considering a move to our community - that Greater Rochester is ready, willing and able to help them grow."
AT&T's 4G Network
AT&T's innovation and investment has resulted in the nation's largest 4G network, covering 275 million people with ultra-fast speeds and a more consistent user experience. AT&T is the only U.S. service provider to deploy two compatible 4G technologies to deliver more speed to more customers. Our 4G LTE network delivered faster average download speeds than any of our competitors in PCWorld's most recent 13-market speed tests.
AT&T's 4G LTE network delivers speeds faster than many other mobile Internet technologies, as well as multiple innovations that optimize the network for performance. Our network's radio components are placed close to the antenna at most cell sites, instead of inside the base station, which helps minimize power loss between the base station and antenna and, in turn, improves the performance of our 4G LTE network. The network also is designed with its core elements distributed across the country, which helps reduce latency, or the delay when using the Internet, because your request isn't traveling as far.
Even as AT&T continues to expand its 4G LTE coverage in 2012 and 2013, customers can get 4G speeds outside of 4G LTE areas on our 4G HSPA+ network, unlike competitor's where customers fall back to slower 3G technologies when outside of LTE coverage.
AT&T's focus to deliver the best possible mobile Internet experience goes beyond 4G to embrace additional connection technologies. AT&T operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network*** including more than 30,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers across the country. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.
AT&T also is a leading developer of Distributed Antenna Systems, which utilize multiple small antennas to maximize coverage and speed within stadiums, convention centers, office buildings, hotels and other areas where traditional coverage methods are challenging.
Over the past five years, AT&T invested more than $115 billion into operations and into acquiring spectrum and other assets that have enhanced our wireless and wired networks. Since 2007, AT&T has invested more capital into the U.S. economy than any other public company. In a July 2012 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. "Investment Heroes."

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, all the benefits of full-frame digital photography are available in a palm-sized compact camera.
The extraordinary new Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-RX1 digital camera packs an advanced 35mm full-frame 24.3 MP Exmor® CMOS sensor and exceptional Carl Zeiss T*t 35mm f/2.0 fixed lens into a highly portable, lightweight camera body. Measuring approximately 4.5 inches wide by 3 inches tall and weighing just over a pound, it's significantly smaller and lighter than any full-frame DSLR yet sacrifices nothing in terms of image quality, HD video quality or manual control.
"The new Cyber-shot RX1 is truly 'one of a kind,' offering a unique combination of size and performance that's never before been realized in the world of digital cameras," said Yosuke Tomoda, director of the Cyber-shot camera business at Sony Electronics. "With its highly advanced sensor and fast 35mm f/2.0 lens packed into a small, portable camera body, professionals, enthusiasts and advanced hobbyists can experience the world of full-frame imaging in new and different ways than they ever thought possible."
The new camera's unified lens and body design allows performance that few interchangeable lenses can match. The Carl Zeiss lens not only delivers spectacular image quality all the way to the edges of each frame, it incorporates a near-silent in-lens shutter and is far more compact than comparable lenses of interchangeable design. The camera also features full manual control options and an intuitive user interface, making it easy for photographers to adjust all settings quickly and easily.
The 35mm full-frame sensor inside the RX1 camera more than doubles the area of APS-C sensors commonly found in much bulkier DSLR cameras, allowing it to take in significantly more light while capturing content. With an effective resolution of 24.3 megapixels, it's capable of resolving the finest image details and most subtle textures for rich color reproduction and an impressively broad dynamic range.
The large sensor size also boosts the camera's sensitivity range to a generous ISO 100 - 25600, with the option to shoot as low as ISO 50 in expanded sensitivity mode. Similarly, ISO settings as high as 102400 can be achieved using Multi Frame Noise Reduction. This allows the camera to capture natural, low noise handheld images in near-dark conditions without needing flash.
The fast, bright Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm lens is a versatile choice for portraits, street photography and everyday shooting. This premium lens features newly designed optics including an Advanced Aspherical (AA) glass element, which contributes to the camera's extremely compact dimensions without sacrificing optical performance.
The lens' wide F2 maximum, 9-bladed circular aperture enable beautiful background defocus ('bokeh') effects to rival or exceed professional-class DSLR camera lenses. Additionally, it features a macro switching ring on the lens barrel which instantly shortens the minimum focusing distance to approximately 20cm (from image plane), allowing the camera to capture small, close-up subjects with exquisite detail.
The Cyber-shot RX1 camera also features an enhanced BIONZ® processing engine that rapidly handles data from the Exmor® CMOS sensor and also powers full-resolution burst shooting at up to five frames per second. The powerful processor can output image data in 14-bit RAW format, giving advanced users total freedom to express their creative vision throughout the shooting and post-production processes.
Despite the camera's extraordinarily compact dimensions, the new Cyber-shot RX1 model offers a full range of manual control modes on par with typical high-end full-frame DSLR cameras. Dedicated lens rings allow for fingertip control of focus and aperture, while a DSLR-style Focus mode dial on the front of the camera enables easy switching between focus modes. Top-mounted exposure compensation and mode dials are strategically placed for simple access and operation, while custom function and AEL buttons on the back panel are also easily accessible.
The new camera features a Quick Navi mode that allows fast, intuitive adjustment of camera settings. This is especially useful when using the camera with an optional viewfinder (sold separately). A memory recall (MR) mode is accessible via the mode dial so photographers can store and instantly recall up to three sets of camera settings.
Other refinements include a MF Assist function that magnifies a portion of the image while framing to simplify fine focus adjustments, as well as a Peaking function that highlights sharply-focused areas of the image on screen.
Additionally, the RX1 camera features By Pixel Super Resolution digital zoom technology, which allows for magnification of image size without sacrificing pixel count. This results in far higher quality results than are achievable with conventional digital zoom.
A Smart Teleconverter function crops a central portion of the image sensor, boosting effective magnification by 1.4x or 2x realizing an effective 49mm or 70mm focal length. With the extremely high pixel count of the full-frame image sensor, even zoomed and cropped images maintain generous amounts of fine detail when blown up for large print sizes.
In addition to beautiful still images, the Cyber-shot RX1 compact camera can capture high-quality, low-noise Full HD movie footage in all lighting conditions at a choice of 60p or 24p (progressive) frame rates. There's a full complement of P/A/S/M exposure modes during video shooting for creative flexibility.
The new camera also features 13 different Creative Styles for fine-tuning images, plus a wide range of Picture Effect treatments. Further, it has Auto HDR and D-Range Optimizer, bracket shooting (Exposure, DRO or White Balance) and Auto HDR shooting modes, and there's a Digital Level Gauge that indicates camera pitch and camera roll on the LCD screen for straight, even landscape and architectural shots.
New Accessories for Cyber-shot RX1
Shooting possibilities for stills and video are broadened by the camera's Multi Interface Shoe that accepts a growing range of accessories. Options include a high-quality OLED XGA OLED Tru-Finder(TM) EVF (model FDA-EV1MK) which allows for even greater manual focusing precision as well as an external optical viewfinder featuring Carl Zeiss optics (model FDA-V1K).

Latest Interchangeable Lens Video Camera Allows Filmmakers Virtually Limitless Creative Expression
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Sony Electronics unveiled the world's first consumer 35mm full-frame interchangeable lens camcorder - the new NEX-VG900 Handycam® camcorder - for expressive, powerful imaging. Sony's flagship model is joined by the NEX-VG30H which builds on the success of the NEX-VG20H model, sharing the same APS-C image sensor while adding several enhancements.
"Our new interchangeable lens camcorder offerings allow demanding cinematographers the control and flexibility they need to bring their creative vision to life," said Hidenori Toyoda, director of the camcorder business at Sony Electronics. "We're excited to deliver revolutionary products like our full-frame model to the consumer market for unparalleled quality and value."
NEX-VG900 Handycam® Camcorder
Realizing supreme imaging quality and generous creative options, Sony's NEX-VG900 is the first Handycam camcorder with a 35mm sensor to fully exploit the artistic potential of interchangeable lenses. With a resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels, the camcorder's Exmor(®) CMOS sensor is around 40 times larger than its equivalent in standard consumer camcorders and more than twice the size of the APS-C sensor found in other interchangeable lens Handycam models. It captures full-frame, 24 megapixel still photos, with RAW format support for all the post-processing flexibility and quality expected from a pro-class DSLR camera. The sensor also allows the creation of distinctive 'bokeh' (defocus) effects; high sensitivity for extremely clear, low-noise images; and effortless reproduction of smooth, true tonal gradation.
Beautiful, film-like results can be achieved by shooting video in 24p progressive mode with CinemaTone Gamma(TM) and CinemaTone Color(TM) presets to precisely control cinematic grading effects. Additionally, AVCHD(TM) version 2.0 standard 60p recording maximizes the range of creative options for movie-makers to explore. Even greater flexibility is provided by a choice of new Picture Effect modes, enabling easy creation of artistic 'in-camera' treatments. Whether you're shooting HD video or stills, Picture Effects add a new level of expression to content. Modes like Posterization, which creates a high contrast abstract look by heavily emphasizing primary colors or black and white; Retro Photo, which creates the look of an aged photo with sepia color tones and faded contrast; Pop Color, which produces a vivid look by emphasizing color tones; and Partial Color, which produces stunning monochrome photos containing a single designated color (red, green, blue or yellow) are just a few of the effects that make ordinary images and scenes come to life.
A convenient seesaw lever allows slow, smooth zoom capability that is almost impossible to achieve when zooming manually, for added creative control and pro-quality imagery. As an extra refinement, the NEX-VG900 camcorder switches automatically from full-frame operation to APS-C mode when an E-mount or A-mount DT lens is attached. This allows users to get the most out of their collection of lenses that are optimized for cameras with a smaller APS-C image sensor. The camcorder also comes supplied with the LA-EA3 adaptor that lets photographers use full-frame A-mount lenses at their designated focal length.
Extensive manual settings and options combined with ergonomic refinements give videographers greater control and comfort. Aperture priority, shutter speed priority and manual exposure are all customizable while white balance can be adjusted to suit any scene. Similarly, iris, shutter speed, and gain adjustments can easily be made via direct access keys. And the camcorder's pro-style display peaking function is complemented by a one-touch focus magnification button on top of the grip.
Serious video makers will welcome the premium XGA OLED Tru-Finder(TM) EVF that offers high-contrast image monitoring with superb color rendition. Even in the most challenging lighting situations, being able to view your footage with the Tru-finder EVF ensures you're getting the best shots. Complementing the Tru-Finder EVF, an adjustable three-inch Xtra Fine LCD(TM) touch-panel monitor with LED backlighting offers Sony's unique technology for high contrast images with rich, deep blacks.
Superior audio has always been a crucial part of the E-mount Handycam camcorder lineup. A unique Quad Capsule Spatial Array Microphone features four omnidirectional capsules that supports stereo or 5.1 channel surround. The new Multi Interface Shoe provides compatibility with accessories including the optional XLR-K1M adaptor kit that adds a high-quality mono shotgun mic and two pro-standard XLR connections.
Handycam® NEX-VG30H/VG30
Sharing many of the pro-oriented enhancements of the NEX-VG900 camcorder, the Handycam® NEX-VG30H model succeeds the acclaimed NEX-VG20H camcorder. With a resolution of 16.1 effective megapixels, the new camcorder's Exmor(®) APS HD CMOS sensor assures outstanding image quality with the family of interchangeable E-mount lenses. Like the NEX-VG900 camcorder, it can capture smooth, cinematic Full HD video footage at 60p, or 24p (progressive) frame rates and high-resolution still photos, supported by a wide range of artistic Picture Effect modes. It also features the same XGA OLED Tru-Finder(TM) EVF, comprehensive manual controls and the same seesaw style zoom lever as the NEX-VG900 model.
The NEX-VG30H camcorder comes supplied as a kit with the new SELP-18200 E PZ 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Power Zoom lens that provides a versatile range from wide angle to telephoto. Offering smooth, quiet Auto Focus operation and Optical SteadyShot(TM) image stabilization, the lens also features an additional switch on the barrel for further controlling zoom speeds.

New Levels of Imaging Performance and Response
The flagship a99 model combines its new 24.3 effective megapixel Exmor® CMOS sensor with a highly advanced BIONZ image processing engine, delivering unprecedented levels of performance in both still and video shooting.
The full frame sensor is enhanced by a newly-developed separate multi-segment optional low-pass filter, increasing its resolving power. Assisted by an all-new front-end LSI, the BIONZ engine can process massive amounts of image signal data from the sensor at very high speeds. Together with a powerful new area-specific noise reduction (NR) algorithm, it allows to the camera to achieve 14-bit RAW output, rich gradation and low noise.
The evolved BIONZ processor also gives the a99 model a maximum sensitivity range (in expanded sensitivity mode) as wide as ISO50 - 25600 - a range of nine stops. Its unprecedented processing power enables the camera to shoot a burst of images at up to six frames per second at full resolution or up to 10 fps in Tele-zoom high speed shooting mode.
The new a99 digital camera features a unique dual AF system, a world's first for digital cameras. This camera's main focusing system - a 19-point AF system with 11 cross sensors - is complemented by a 102-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor overlaying the main image sensor. Harnessing the power of Translucent Mirror Technology, light is passed to both phase-detection AF sensors simultaneously and continually, measuring subject distance and position more completely than other cameras. This unique Dual AF System permits ultra-fast, accurate autofocusing that maintains tracking focus even if a subject temporarily leaves the frame.
The AF-D (depth) continuous autofocus mode* utilizes the Dual AF system for wider and more dense coverage of the frame, significantly improving AF performance with fast or erratically moving subjects against complex backgrounds. Additionally, during movie shooting, AF Duration control provides reliable depth focusing information and ensures that the camera maintains proper focus on its subject when objects or people cross the focal plane.
A new AF range control allows photographers to manually select foreground and background distance to which the AF system will not respond, especially useful for shooting fast moving sports or animals through a nearby wire mesh or in front of a complex background that commonly distracts camera AF systems.
Crafted for Videographers and Movie-makers
The new a99 camera's video capabilities build on Sony's expertise in developing professional motion picture cameras, combining the unmatched resolving power and sensitivity of the full-frame sensor with several advanced features optimized for professional video production.
The flagship a99 model is the first full-frame DSLR to offer Full HD 60p/24p progressive video recording to meet AVCHD(TM) Version 2.0 specifications and Full-time Continuous AF Movie mode, allowing smooth, non-stop tracking of moving subjects. Other enhancements include real-time Full HD video output via HDMI®, and uninterrupted 'dual-card' recording using both of the camera's media slots.
For added convenience while shooting video, a new silent, programmable multi-control dial on the front of the camera body allows silent adjustment of common settings during shooting including exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, shutter speed, aperture and much more.
The camera's audio features are designed to meet the demanding needs of serious videographers. An audio level display and adjustable audio record levels are joined by a headphone jack for accurate in-the-field monitoring. Additionally, the multi-interface shoe provides balance audio input for the optional XLR-K1M adaptor kit, which adds a high-quality mono shotgun microphone and pro-standard XLR connections for dependable audio acquisition.
Uncompromised Handing for Advanced Photographers
The camera's XGA OLED Tru-Finder(TM) viewfinder offers 100% frame coverage on the viewfinder screen with exceptional brightness, contrast, clarity and resolution, ensuring a detail-packed view of the desired scene and subject. The unique electronic viewfinder will also maintain a 100% field of view with DT lenses that are optimized for APS-C sensor cameras, converting the angle of view automatically for image recording and display.
Complementing the Tru-Finder EVF is a three-way tiltable 1229k-dot (VGA equivalent) XtraFine LCD(TM) display with WhiteMagic(TM) technology to boost overall screen brightness. It's especially useful for framing and shooting with the LCD in outdoor, sunny conditions.
Despite its impressive pro-class credentials, the a99 camera is the world's lightest 35 mm full-frame interchangeable-lens digital camera. Constructed of high-rigidity magnesium alloy panels, it weighs in at just 733g (without lens and battery). Translucent Mirror Technology, which eliminates the need for a full-frame moving mirror mechanism and heavy glass pentaprism, also contributes to the extremely light design.
Additionally, the camera is weather-sealed and all buttons and controls have been ruggedized. A redesigned shutter block, tested to approximately 200,000 releases, further ensures the camera's stamina and reliability.
The camera's enhanced ergonomics include a re-designed grip and differentiated designs of several switches and buttons that allow for intuitive fingertip operation. A new exposure mode dial lock prevents accidental rotation, and a newly-developed Quick Navi Pro interface gives quick, intuitive one-handed access to common shooting parameters and controls.
The new model can also be operated via remote PC connection. Supported functions include switching between still and video shooting plus automatic transfer of still images from camera to PC for an improved studio workflow.

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As enterprises and government agencies seek innovative ways to lower IT costs, they're choosing Optical LANs to deliver voice, data and video to workplaces.
Now, Tellabs is introducing the world's smallest enterprise ONTs. The new Tellabs(®) 100 Series Mini Optical Network Terminals fit anywhere - mounting in a standard wall outlet or cubicle raceway. [Editor's note: A photo of the Tellabs 100 Mini ONT is available here.]
Out of sight

remotely powered from the communications closet
-- Lower deployment costs.
A single fiber provides voice, video and data services. The solution delivers Tellabs All-Secure PON(TM) for high security, with the fiber terminated in the wall outlet.

Just 1 RU (rack unit) by 19" wide, the ODH fits in the communication closet, or even in ceiling zone boxes or raised floors, further reducing overall space requirements. The first Tellabs 553 ODH model will be released in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The Tellabs 100 Series Mini ONT supports future extension modules to provide WiFi, CATV, additional Gigabit Ethernet ports, telephone jacks, and ZigBee wireless connectivity. These interfaces extend the capability and scalability of Tellabs' Optical LAN solution to meet the needs of a wide range of enterprise market applications. The first extension modules will become available in 2013.
All the benefits of Optical LAN
The Tellabs 100 Series of Mini ONTs is part of Tellabs industry-leading Optical LAN Solution. National Center For Missing & Exploited Children And Sprint Make Learning About Online Safety Fun For Kids With Free New Game And Videos
New Content Featured on http://www.NSTeens.org Teaches Online Safety to Kids Ages 8 to 12
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Sprint (NYSE:S) announced today that their free Internet-safety site, http://www.NSTeens.org, has been expanded to help tweens (8-12 year olds) start the school year right. The new content available today includes:
-- "Stop That Post...Again!" is a game where players race to stop friends
and family from posting embarrassing information online. It is being
made available for the Web, Android, and iOS devices.
-- "Friend or Fake?" is the sixth animated video starring the NSTeens
comic-book-style characters. It addresses the risks tweens face when
meeting offline with people they first meet on the Internet.
-- "Teens Talk Back: Meeting Offline" is a video that features candid
interviews with real tweens and teens discussing their thoughts about
meeting people they know from the Internet in the real world.
The new content, along with previous Internet-safety games and videos, is available for free at http://www.NSTeens.org. Additional topics covered on the site include cyberbullying, texting and online gaming. NSTeens videos include activity cards to help teachers build the videos into their lesson plans and open a dialogue with their students. All NSTeens content is available in English and Spanish.
"Our goal is to help kids understand the potential dangers and empower them to make smarter decisions about their online and offline behavior," said John Ryan, CEO of NCMEC. "With 1 in 25 youths having received an online sexual solicitation where the solicitor tried to make offline contact, information about privacy and meeting offline are a critical part of Internet safety education. We are grateful to Sprint for supporting that message."
Research indicates that children between the ages of 15 and 17 are most likely to take risks online involving privacy and contact with unknown people. NSTeens teaches a younger audience of tweens from 8 to 12 years old the skills they need to be safer on the Internet.
"Corporations have a vital role to play when it comes to ensuring our children have bright, safe futures," said Debby Ballard, director of Community Affairs for Sprint. "At Sprint, we believe it is our duty to make sure that our products and services are being used in the safest manner possible, particularly when in the hands of those who may be the most vulnerable. Together with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, we have reached millions of children across the country through NSTeens allowing them to learn and have fun at the same time."
NCMEC and Sprint launched http://www.NSTeens.org in 2007. The site is funded as part of Sprint's Internet safety initiative, 4NetSafety (http://www.4NetSafety.com), through Sprint's charitable phone-recycling program, Sprint Project Connect. 4NetSafety is an important part of Sprint Good Works, an initiative that encompasses Sprint's community and philanthropic outreach across the country.
NSTeens is part of NCMEC's successful NetSmartz Workshop (http://www.NetSmartz.org), one of the nation's most popular Internet safety resources. NetSmartz Workshop offers free, research based materials designed specifically for children and serves as a resource for parents, educators, law enforcement, and others.

Ford Names Date Idea Suggestion Service, Dates.fm, As Winner of Second SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
-- Ford SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge, held during the TechCrunch
Disrupt Hackathon, offered the developer community an opportunity to
create new mobile apps that will be compatible with the voice-activated
Ford SYNC(®) system
-- Startup BeCouply used the opportunity to create Dates.fm, an app that
allows couples to "tune in" to relevant location-based date options; it
was selected as the winner and will be considered for future integration
with Ford SYNC AppLink(TM)
-- As the winner, the Dates.fm team will travel with Ford to the
International CES in January 2013 and showcase the app as part of Ford's
presence at the show; they also received $1,000 from Nuance
Communications for being the best use of in-car voice recognition
Ford, in a continuing quest to support app developers working with the industry-leading SYNC(®) connectivity system, today announces Dates.fm, a location-based date suggestion service, as the winner of the Ford SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge held this past weekend during the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon in San Francisco.
"Picking a winner was harder than ever, but Dates.fm stood out as an area that has tremendous opportunity in the context of the car. If you think about it, the car is an integral part of any relationship, and Dates.fm can ensure a romantic date night with the help of SYNC," said Julius Marchwicki, SYNC AppLink(TM) global product manager. "We're excited to see developers embracing SYNC AppLink to deliver new ideas that add voice-activated convenience and value for our customers."
The Dates.fm team now has the opportunity to further develop a SYNC AppLink-enabled version of their app and travel to the International CES in Las Vegas in January 2013 with Ford, where they will be able to demonstrate their app as part of Ford's presence at the show.
Dates.fm was created by the start-up app and service, BeCouply. The free BeCouply app, currently in private beta, makes it fun and easy to discover great date ideas, capture special moments, and connect with other couples. The BeCouply subscription service, also in private beta, works with local venues and national partners like EMI/Capitol Records to send couples on amazing, all-inclusive dates each month.
The team behind BeCouply (http://becouply.com) and Dates.fm (http://dates.fm) is a couple in real life, Becky Cruze and Pius Uzamere. Cruze has a degree from The George Washington University in political communications and Uzamere holds a degree in computer science and engineering from MIT. Uzamere has fond memories of summer 2002 when he interned at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Mich. for the PNGV (Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles) team working on bringing hybrid vehicles to market.
"I had a blast working with Ford as a college intern and I'm incredibly excited that now, 10 years later, I'll have the opportunity to work with them again, this time as a partner integrating my startup's product."
"We had just planned to come and work on our core product for fun during the Hackathon, but when we saw the opportunity to hack on the Ford SYNC AppLink platform, we couldn't stop thinking of cool integrations we could do with it. The AppLink API (application programming interface) lets you start thinking outside the box about things that previously seemed impossible," Cruze said.
"Given the breadth of features available," Uzamere added, "integrating with SYNC AppLink was surprisingly easy. I built the first version in a single night."
Uzamere went on to describe what drew them to hack on Ford SYNC. "Our startup, BeCouply, has a mission of helping couples have epic social lives. Well, for so many couples, great dates begin in their car. So we thought to ourselves, how could we extend our app concept to the car and build a truly magical experience for couples?"
Cruze explains how Dates.fm could work, "One of the things our BeCouply mobile app allows couples to do is find fun date ideas nearby and 'heart' ones they want to return to later. What if they could 'tune in' to a service that would push great, relevant date options to them as they drive and let them make plans on the go? That didn't exist, so we decided to build it."
"It's a huge opportunity for us to make the lives of millions of couples more fun," Uzamere added.
BeCouply, based in San Francisco, has previously had a round of angel investment led by Mitch Kapor, creator of Lotus 1-2-3.
The Ford SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge was designed to help stimulate ideas amongst the mobile app developer community and give them the opportunity to "hack" using the AppLink API. Teams participating in the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon were given the opportunity to submit ideas, become a licensed SYNC developer to gain access to the SDK (software development kit) and TDK (technology development kit) to build and integrate their app with SYNC AppLink, then travel to CES and showcase their app as part of Ford's presence at the show.

Jerry Storch, Chairman and CEO, Toys"R"Us, Inc. Says The Future Belongs To Retailers That Build The Best Consumer-Facing Network Across All Channels During Keynote Address at 2012 Shop.org Annual Summit
Company Announces New Additions to Its Already Robust Omnichannel Offerings with "Ship to Store," Merchandise Pick Up Kiosks and Dedicated In-Store Omnichannel Teams
WAYNE, N.J., Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Jerry Storch, Chairman and CEO, Toys"R"Us, Inc., as part of a keynote address at the Shop.org Annual Summit in Denver, CO, passionately debunked what he calls "myths" that the growth of internet shopping is bringing about the demise of "big box" retailing and that the future belongs to internet-only companies. During his presentation, titled "Episode III: The Stores Strike Back," Mr. Storch discussed how successful brands will be those that build the best consumer-facing network across all channels, and how Toys"R"Us(®) is leveraging its unique strengths, including its robust store base, to grow and thrive over the long-term.
Mr. Storch outlined the many misconceptions he believes exist in the marketplace today regarding online-only companies and traditional "brick and mortar" retailers, including the assumptions that the internet is causing the downfall of "big box" retailing, store chains need to shrink massively and rapidly, customers prefer online shopping to stores and that the future belongs to online-only companies. Mr. Storch asserted that traditional retailers have many valuable assets, especially store locations, to compete in this evolving world. He illustrated how brands must engage and interact with customers through multiple means to provide convenience and flexibility and give consumers the ability to shop wherever, whenever and however they choose.
"While there has been much focus on online-only shopping - and our own e-commerce sites have grown to a $1 billion business - the reality is that the vast majority of sales still occur in physical stores," said Jerry Storch, Chairman and CEO, Toys"R"Us, Inc. "The successful brands will be those who offer the best products and services across all channels. As an omnichannel leader, Toys"R"Us is intensely focused on integrating stores, internet, mobile, social and local components, and leveraging our many operational assets to offer new services is an ongoing strategic initiative. To compete in this changing world, retailers must be aggressive and seize the day!"
Through its omnichannel strategy, Toys"R"Us utilizes its vast store base, distribution centers across the country, growing e-commerce business, mobile platform and social networking sites to bring products and a wealth of information to its customers. At the Shop.org Annual Summit, the premier gathering for e-commerce, digital and omnichannel retailers, Mr. Storch unveiled advancements being made to the company's already robust omnichannel offerings, which further its position at the forefront of omnichannel retailing. Toys"R"Us is continuing to invest in these services, including those involving its store network, to promote further interaction with the brand and improve the overall store experience.
This fall, Toys"R"Us, Inc. will roll out "Ship to Store," which will allow customers to ship select online purchases to their local Toys"R"Us or Babies"R"Us(®) store free of charge. Additionally, enhancements to existing programs, such as "Buy Online, Pick Up In Store," will be available this fall, including merchandise pick up kiosks to streamline the in-store pick up process. To support the company's growing offerings, Toys"R"Us will also hire additional employees in its stores nationwide this holiday season specifically dedicated to fulfilling omnichannel orders and assisting customers with these programs.
Seamless Shopping Experience at Toys"R"Us - Order From Anywhere, Pick Up From Anywhere
"Ship to Store" - Beginning in October, customers can take advantage of a new complimentary shipping offer on Toysrus.com and Babiesrus.com, "Ship to Store." When shopping online, customers will have the option to select "Free Ship to Store" on eligible items and have their order delivered to the local store of their choice in 7 to 14 days. WASHINGTON, Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In recognition of "National Telephone Discount Lifeline Awareness Week" (September 10-14, 2012), CTIA-The Wireless Association® joins the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates (NASUCA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to raise awareness for Lifeline, a federal and state program which provides financial assistance for telecommunications services.
Funded by the Universal Service Fund (USF), Lifeline provides discounts on monthly telephone service, either wireless or wireline, for eligible consumers. It is vital that low-income and rural families have access to telephone services, which is why CTIA supports education efforts to increase awareness for these programs.
According to a June 2012 survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 90 percent of adults living near or below the poverty line live in a household that only uses a wireless device as their family's telephone. Nationwide, one in three households are wireless only. With more consumers, especially those who are low-income and rural, increasingly relying on wireless devices as their sole communications tools, it is vital individuals have the option to choose mobile services.
"The positive impact of access to wireless technology is tremendously valuable, which is why we are pleased to join NARUC, NASUCA and FCC to highlight this important program so low-income and rural consumers are aware of the quality, affordable telecommunications services," said Steve Largent, President and CEO of CTIA-The Wireless Association. "We also call on state and local policymakers to stop the excessive and discriminatory taxes and fees on wireless services that place an arbitrary and counterproductive burden on the same consumers these programs try to help. We are hopeful that when the U.S. Congress returns, they will pass the Wireless Tax Fairness Act, which would prevent any new and discriminatory wireless taxes and fees for five years."

Mary Pickford Foundation Launches On-line Research Center and Clearinghouse
Center is key element in fostering Foundation's mission to further Pickford's commitment to her craft, community and philanthropy
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mary Pickford Foundation today announced the launch of a comprehensive on-line research center and clearinghouse at http://www.MaryPickford.org in conjunction with the first annual Mary Pickford Celebration of Silent Film, co-hosted by the Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Academy's Mary Pickford Center in Hollywood.
The on-line site features original videos and writings, photographs, archives, collections, film clips and historical material illustrating the tremendous impact Mary Pickford and her colleagues had on the film industry. Pickford was a multifaceted pioneer of early cinema and a founder of United Artists, AMPAS and what is now known as the Motion Picture Home. She was a talented performer, a creative producer and a savvy businesswoman who helped shape the film industry as we know it today.
"This on-line research center is our virtual office and a key element in fostering our mission to further Mary Pickford's commitment to her craft, her community and her philanthropy while inspiring future generations of women and filmmakers," said Henry Stotsenberg, President and CEO of the Mary Pickford Foundation. "Mary Pickford conceived this foundation over 40 years ago and with this site, we are taking the power of her legacy into the 21(st) Century."
The Mary Pickford Foundation's Director of Archive and Legacy, Elaina Archer, and its Resident Scholar, Cari Beauchamp, were instrumental in designing and writing the site to be "a central resource for writers, researchers and archivists as well as for those interested in simply learning more about Mary, her friends and the silent era," Archer said. "We will continuously be adding new material."
"Our intention is to create an evolving source of information, taking full advantage of new technology," added Beauchamp. "I know that if this site had been available to me when I was writing my books, it would have saved me months of research." Archival interviews with Mary are posted as well as a listing of over 100 magazine articles about her.
The Mary Pickford Foundation recently announced a partnership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that includes the annual celebration of silent film, the digitization of the Mary Pickford collection at the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library and an initiative to promote film preservation.
