NTT Communications Invests in New Low-Latency Route Between Europe and Hong Kong

with a dedicated connection between London and Hong Kong.
This allows NTT Communications to offer a Managed Bandwidth Service using the new
TEA-2 system - the newest low-latency route alternative to subsea cables. For NTT
Communications' European customers, access to the TEA-2 wavelength service means they have
direct connectivity to the major countries in Asia. Investment in this new route gives
customers a reliable, private and dedicated network service on-net, as the demand from
multinational companies in Europe sees an increase in the use of data networks and cloud

Xilinx Takes its Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC to 1 GHz
New performance benchmarks and smaller form factor packaging for industry's only All Programmable SoC family
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced it has increased the peak processing performance of the Zynq(TM)-7000 All Programmable SoC family to 1 GHz, and is also providing smaller form factor packaging to enable higher system performance and programmable systems integration. These enhancements further expand the system value of many high-end image and graphic processing applications within the medical, Aerospace and Defense (A&D) markets, as well as computationally intensive systems targeting wired and wireless equipment. Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs are the first tightly integrated hardware, software and I/O 'all programmable' devices in the industry.
"Using Zynq for our measurement devices gives us an extremely compact physical solution as well as an extremely compact system because software and hardware are closer together than ever before," said Matthias Goetz, hardware project leader at Rohde & Schwarz. "We especially appreciate the great bandwidth performance between the FPGA and industry standard processing sub-system because it accelerates our processing and system development and it allows us to easily move functions from processor to programmable logic when and where needed."
The new 1 GHz performance benchmark, a 25 percent increase over initial specifications for the two largest Zynq-7000 devices, means the Zynq-7000 family can meet the performance requirements of even more applications than previously anticipated, especially for systems involving heavy-duty image or signal processing where customers need high-end processing capabilities in a single chip. Customers who would otherwise require multiple chips to achieve their processing requirements can lower BOM while optimizing their applications with better performance and lower power consumption thanks to the tight integration between the ARM® processing sub-system and programmable logic.

The new performance benchmark comes as Xilinx's All Programmable SoC meets another important milestone with the first Zynq-7045 device shipping to Early Access customers.

The Zynq-7045 devices pushes programmable systems integration a step further by providing a hard PCIe® Gen2 x8 block, (PCIe x8 Gen3 can be implemented using a soft core in the programmable logic), with high performance SelectIO(TM) technology supporting up to 1866 Mb/s for additional DDR3 memory interfaces and 1.6 Gb/s for LVDS interfaces in DDR mode.
Smaller Form Factor Package Added for Zynq-7010 Device
Xilinx is also announcing the addition of the CLG225 package, a small, 13 x 13mm package for Zynq-7010 devices, supporting programmable system integration for more space constrained applications, such as industrial motor control and imaging, camera-based driver assistance systems, portable medical imaging equipment and a variety of consumer products.

Parks Associates: Real-time bidding (RTB) is changing online display advertising market, with revenues reaching $1.6 billion in 2012
Analysts Say RTB Could Revive Facebook's Advertising Business
DALLAS, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- International market research firm Parks Associates says advertising revenues from real-time bidding (RTB), which allows companies to target consumer segments in real time, will reach $7 billion in North America by 2017. The independent research firm's report Real-time Bidding: The Online Ad Exchangereports RTB will account for 34% of all online display advertising revenues by 2017. Industry efforts such as Facebook Exchange, along with firms such as SpotXchange, Nexage, and Google that are opening their ad inventories to the RTB market, are significant factors driving growth.
"Facebook's newly launched ad exchange is a driving force for RTB adoption and could help Facebook regain its market value as the social network serves approximately 33% of U.S. display ad impressions," said Heather Way, research analyst, Parks Associates.
RTB refers to the complete process, including the technology infrastructure and management systems, that enables the automated purchase and placement of online display advertising to specific audience segments. This more efficient and targeted advertising method is an important tool for firms such as Facebook, which is struggling to monetize content, because RTB allows them to place more relevant ads in front of their members.
"RTB enablers offer greater transparency, control, and accuracy, so once media buyers realize the benefits and become familiar with the new ad buying and selling process, ad spend from traditional display advertising will quickly transfer to RTB platforms," Way said. "Incumbent display ad sellers, such as ad networks, must integrate RTB capabilities to avoid losing market share."
However, the RTB process is not easily understood by the buyers of online display advertising.
"Ad agencies face multiple obstacles, including new media consumption and multidevice adoption, in an expanding and complex business environment," Way said. Lockheed Martin Performs First Ever Outdoor Flight Test Of Laser Powered UAS
PALMDALE, Calif., Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] and LaserMotive, Inc., have completed a series of flight tests of the Stalker Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to further validate the performance of an innovative laser power system. These tests mark the first-ever outdoor flight of a UAS powered by laser.
Stalker is a small, silent UAS used by Special Operations Forces since 2006 to perform intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. In a recent wind tunnel test, the UAS demonstrated 48 hours of continuous flight powered by this innovative laser system.
"This series of proof-of-concept tests took place in a remote desert location where environmental factors like wind and heat were constants. Not only did we demonstrate that the laser powered Stalker could perform well in this type of environment, we flew during both day and night without incident," said Tom Koonce, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® Stalker program manager. "Ultimately we hope to provide our customers with remarkably long endurance to extend and expand the mission profiles possible for a small UAS like Stalker."
For the demonstration, the Stalker was fitted with a lightweight photovoltaic receiver and on-board power management hardware. The ground-based laser transmitter was based on LaserMotive's hardware developed for its winning entry in the 2009 NASA Centennial Challenge. Accomplishments of these proof-of-concept flights include:
-- Demonstrated net positive power to Stalker in flight, at ranges up to
600 meters.
-- Proved that the laser did not damage the Stalker and that the addition
of the laser receiver did not impact its normal flight operations or
aerodynamics.
-- Operated multiple test flights in a range of desert conditions (day and
night, high temperatures, and strong winds), demonstrating the
ruggedness of the Stalker-mounted laser receiver power system.
-- The beam director tracked the receiver for long periods, with centimeter
accuracy at 500 meters, despite turbulence and aircraft maneuvers.
-- Met all operational and safety requirements, including coordination with
the Laser Clearinghouse and flight operations.
