GoPro® - World's Best Selling Wearable HD Camera Company - Launches HD HERO® 960
New $179 Addition to Award Winning Wearable HD Sports Camera Line
HALF MOON BAY, Calif., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- GoPro, the world's best selling wearable HD camera company, is proud to announce the release of the HD HERO 960, an entry level $179 version of the award winning HD HERO camera. The HD HERO 960 incorporates the same professional image and sound quality that has made the original HD HERO the camera of choice for more athletes and filmmakers than any other sports camera in the world. The HD HERO 960 is available today at GoPro.com and worldwide at authorized GoPro retailers for $179.99 (USA MSRP).
Whether you're passionate about outdoor sports or motorsports, jumping out of gondolas or out of airplanes, chances are you've heard about GoPro's now world famous HD HERO line of wearable and gear mountable cameras. Designed for attaching to your body, head, helmet, and favorite gear, the HD HERO line of sports cameras makes it easy to capture professional quality HD video of you and your friends in action. A wide array of mounting accessories ranging from chest harnesses to head straps, pole mounts to surfboard mounts make it easy to capture incredible footage normally only seen in professional productions. As a result, GoPro's HD HERO line of cameras is not only the top selling sports camera in consumer markets but is also the top selling camera to Hollywood for film and TV productions where an "easy to mount anywhere" professional HD camera is needed. GoPro's success is best illustrated by the number of TV shows airing on Discovery Channel, National Geographic, CNN, CBS, BBC, Versus, FuelTV, SPEED TV, and more that feature footage from HD HERO cameras.
"When I saw the footage from the GoPro on our big screens at Skywalker Ranch, I was amazed," said producer Rick McCallum of Lucasfilm Ltd.
The HD HERO 960 is an entry level version of the original 1080p HD HERO, sharing the same cutting edge video and audio capture technology but with resolutions on the HD HERO 960 limited to 960p (1280 x 960) and 720p (1280 x 720) at 30 frames per second, and WVGA (848 x 480) at 60 frames per second. Also removed from the HD HERO 960 is the HERO BUS(TM) expansion port that is present on the full featured 1080p HD HERO. The HERO BUS allows for LCD, secondary battery and additional expansion BacPacs(TM) to be attached to the original 1080p HD HERO camera, but not the HD HERO 960.
Aside from theses changes, the HD HERO 960 is a full blooded GoPro camera. Retained are the award winning image and audio quality, ease of use, and durability. A sample of video shot in 960 on the HERO can be seen here. The HD HERO 960 is compatible with GoPro's full line of mounting accessories and comes standard with GoPro's first class customer service and one year warranty.
Also featured in the HD HERO 960 is GoPro's hands-free 5 megapixel timelapse photo mode. This automatic photo taking feature landed ASP World Longboard Champion, Harley Ingleby, on the cover Australian Longboarding Magazine this past July. The above photo is the original shot that landed the on the cover of the magazine. "I just paddled out and the wave that got the cover shot was actually the very first wave I ever set it up to shoot still photos," said Ingleby.
A new feature on the HD HERO 960 is "One Button Mode" which locks the camera into video or photo mode and automatically starts recording once the camera is turned on. Since the camera is locked into recording once turned on, this new "One Button Mode" makes it easier than ever to capture the footage of your most exciting moments with the single press of a button. Perfect for new users, loaning the camera to friends, or when rented out to rental customers, One Button Mode makes the HD HERO 960 as easy to use as pressing a button. One Button Mode can be turned on and off, depending on the user's preference.
The HD HERO 960 shares the same bomb-proof housing construction that has taken the original 1080p HD HERO to both the North and South poles, to the edge of Space and down to the great depths of the ocean. Rated to 180'/60m, the HD HERO 960's housing protects the camera during any activity so that you can focus on having fun without worrying about the camera. In the event that you do damage the housing, replacement lenses, housings, and other parts are available so that you can replace only those parts you need, not the entire camera.
Included mounts that come with the HD HERO 960:
-- Head Strap - Allows you to wear the camera like a headlamp. You can also
pull this strap over helmets for easy camera sharing between friends.
-- Flat and Curved Surface Adhesive Baseplates - Baseplate easily adheres
onto a flat or curved surface allowing the HD HERO 960 with simple click
on and quick release mounting.
A new mount featured in the HD HERO 960 is GoPro's Helmet Front Mount, a curved extension arm that makes it easy to mount the HD HERO 960 on the front of a helmet like a miner's light or headlamp. The most low profile and convenient way to mount a camera on a helmet, the Helmet Front Mount also allows for the camera to be extended out in front of the helmet and pointed back at the wearer, allowing for incredible self portrait videos and photos of the action.
GoPro's HD HERO Cameras Capture Video You and Others Actually Want to Watch
"We've been amazed at not only the quality of video that our customers have produced with the HD HERO since it's launch, but also the variety of activities our customers are engaged in. People use the HD HERO camera for every type of activity imaginable," said Nicholas Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro, "Everyone has their passion and we're so stoked that the HD HERO seems to be people's solution for capturing incredibly high quality HD footage of that passion. The reason behind the HD HERO 960 is to make it easy for even more people to GoPro. We can't wait to see the amazing footage all of our new customers are going capture and share."
A simple search for "GoPro" on video sharing sites brings back thousands of videos consumers have created and proactively tagged as 'GoPro.'
"We don't automatically mark videos that were uploaded from a GoPro, so the fact that people are tagging their videos 'GoPro' is a great sign that our customers are really fired up on GoPro's brand," exclaimed Woodman. "Equally exciting is the average number of views these videos are getting. It's telling that so many people love watching content captured with a GoPro camera. Your average GoPro customer is creating content that is often on par as with network television programming. That's our most satisfying accomplishment... that we're putting the power of professional HD capture into the hands of everyday enthusiasts. GoPro, indeed," Woodman exclaims.

HotelPlanner offers multilingual booking capabilities for group travel
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- HotelPlanner.com revolutionizes online group travel again with a real-time international language and currency converter for its group hotel booking system. This latest technology will make complete online group contracting and reservations possible worldwide.
It is always exciting when the distance between two people is abridged. HotelPlanner.com now possesses the ability to translate hotel booking requests into seven major European languages, enabling its customer base to submit a group RFP to any one of their hotel partners around the world. The convenience is magnified on the supplier end, as the site is able to translate customized client comments into the native language of the hotel group manager, and translate the hotel manager's personalized response back to the native language of the client. This unique feature facilitates communication so effectively that a hotel manager and group customer can negotiate and execute a group contract without being inhibited by language barriers. Also, the transaction can be wholly accomplished online. By exchanging online negotiations, one party need not pay homage to the other party's time zone, and may respond and advance the transaction at their convenience. In addition, HotelPlanner has added multilingual planners to its staff if something is "lost in translation" between the hotels and group coordinators.
An example is found below, the exchange between a Dutch-speaking client negotiating a group rate for their school's upcoming travel to Miami, in the United States. You will see the Hotel Manager in Miami is able to receive the Dutch-speaking client's request, translated for them into English. When responding with a quote and further negotiations, the Hotel Manager is able to respond in English, and their response is translated into Dutch for review by the client:
Wij willen een hotel dat minimaal 3 kinderen e 4 adults in een suite kan blijven. Vlak bij de Six Flags is het goed en met zwembad
Machine Translated to English:
We want a hotel which minimum 3 children or 4 adults in a suite remain. Near the Six Flags is good and with swimming pool
Co-founder and CIO, John Prince, commented, "We are excited to leverage technology to create new opportunities for hotels and international travelers alike. We believe this will be the first step in unifying our group travel partners worldwide."
Such a service revolutionizes group travel for the online consumer. No longer will there be anxiety over negotiations occurring half way around the globe. HotelPlanner.com assures their clients and hotel partners are not lost, but found in translation.
DENVER, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Accuvant, the only research-driven information security partner delivering alignment, clarity and confidence to enterprise clients, announced today the availability of its Data Privacy Services. This new offering is intended for organizations that store or transmit any sensitive personal data related to customers, employees or other individuals.
"Data privacy and protection has grabbed the attention of senior management because of the serious fines and negative publicity that can result from a breach," said Doug Landoll, director of Accuvant's Risk and Compliance Management practice. "Since customers expect their data to not only be secure but private, it is critical organizations understand what sensitive data exists, where it resides, and implement the policies and controls necessary to mitigate the risk of a breach and the unwanted consequences that follow. Our new Data Privacy Services are ideal for any organization that handles personal information."
Accuvant's Data Privacy Services can assist clients through the process of reviewing privacy requirements and building the appropriate security safeguards in accordance with laws, standards and regulations. This service also is relevant for companies that have taken measures to protect data in accordance with specific standards and regulations such as PCI, HIPAA and GLBA, but have not performed a holistic privacy review to identify areas of overlap in scope and required controls.
"Technology can improve an organization's productivity and access to information, but the tradeoff is that it also can introduce risk, especially since the volume of sensitive data that is stored and shared by companies continues to increase," said Evan Tegethoff, solutions architect for Accuvant's Risk and Compliance Management practice. "Combined with more stringent regulatory requirements, companies that do not take a proactive approach to data protection and privacy are compromising both their brand and their customer's trust. Our new Data Privacy Services can help clients align privacy practices with security controls and provide a better understanding of the overall scope of sensitive data in the environment."

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Warning that America's long-term economic prospects are uncertain without radical innovation in technology, Peter Thiel this week launched the Thiel Fellowship to foster the next generation of tech visionaries.
"Our world needs more breakthrough technologies," said Thiel. "From Facebook to SpaceX to Halcyon Molecular, some of the world's most transformational technologies were created by people who stopped out of school because they had ideas that couldn't wait until graduation. This fellowship will encourage the most brilliant and promising young people not to wait on their ideas, either. The Thiel Fellows will change the world and call it a senior thesis."
The Thiel Foundation will award 20 people under 20 years old cash grants of $100,000 to further their innovative scientific and technical ideas. In addition, over a two year period, Peter Thiel's network of tech entrepreneurs and philanthropists--drawn from PayPal, Facebook, Palantir Technologies, Founders Fund, the Singularity Institute, and others--will teach the recipients about creating disruptive technologies and offer mentorship, employment opportunities, support, and training.
"University is a tremendously valuable experience, but when entrepreneurs are ready to launch, they should do so immediately, rather than sticking around to satisfy expectations of a full four years of college or eight of grad school," said Elon Musk, who co-founded Tesla Motors, SpaceX, and PayPal. Musk himself stopped out of his graduate program before classes began to co-found his first company Zip2, which he sold to Compaq for $307 million.
"There is absolutely no experience that matches the real world, so if you have the passion and drive and want to work on a great idea, you should just do it," said Scott Banister. Banister left the University of Illinois before taking a degree and founded ListBot, the largest ASP for business email, and IronPort, the anti-spam company that Cisco acquired for $830 million.
"Because education seeks to impart past knowledge, when you are trying to create a technological breakthrough, you have to create new knowledge, and there is no way to teach that. There was no course at University of Arizona on 'how to cure aging.' Hopefully, this program will allow others to work on ambitious projects themselves, before they've taken on a crippling amount of student debt," said William Andregg, CEO and co-founder of Halcyon Molecular. Halcyon is a start-up that has developed a breakthrough technology for fast, cheap, and highly accurate sequencing of DNA, and whose ultimate goal is to use sequencing data to support therapeutic products that vastly extend healthy lifespans.
"Inventing and producing a pedal-powered cell phone charging station to help Africans stay connected looks better on a resume than straight As in college, and takes the same amount of time," said Michael Vassar, president of the nonprofit Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence.
Though applicants may already have scientific, technical, or nonprofit ideas, the Thiel Fellowship will not be limited to those with developed innovations. Teams of up to four may also apply. Applications will be available in October on ThielFoundation.org and due later in the fall, with the fellowship beginning in 2011.
ABOUT THE THIEL FOUNDATION
The Thiel Foundation defends and promotes freedom in all its dimensions: political, personal, and economic. The Thiel Foundation supports innovative scientific research and new technologies that empower people to improve their lives, champions organizations and individuals who expose human rights abuses and authoritarianism in all its guises, and encourages the exploration of new ideas and new spaces where people can be less reliant on government and where freedom can flourish. Announcing dtSearch® Beta With Native Visual Studio 2010 Support and a .NET 4.0 SDK; Sample Code for Microsoft Azure
.NET 4.0 updates also cover dtSearch's database indexing API and Spider API for static and dynamic web data
BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- dtSearch Corp., a leading supplier of enterprise and developer text retrieval and file conversion software, announces a new beta release of the dtSearch Engine, including native 64-bit Visual Studio 2010 support and a .NET 4.0 SDK. The .NET 4.0 support covers a sample application for the Microsoft Azure CLOUD platform, the dtSearch API for indexing SQL-type databases, and the Spider API for indexing static and dynamic web-based data. The beta also offers performance enhancements for hierarchical sorting in cases involving millions of document metadata tags or database records.
The dtSearch Engine for Win & .NET and the dtSearch Engine for Linux make available dtSearch's data searching and file format support for use in a wide variety of Internet, Intranet and other commercial applications. (For more than a hundred publicly-available developer case studies, please see http://www.dtsearch.com/casestudies.html.) The dtSearch Engine includes 64-bit and 32-bit .NET, Java and C++ APIs.
In addition to the dtSearch Engine, the beta also encompasses the rest of the dtSearch product line: dtSearch Web with Spider for quickly publishing instantly searchable data to an Internet or Intranet site, dtSearch Network with Spider for instantly searching across a network, dtSearch Publish for publishing searchable data to portable media, and dtSearch Desktop with Spider for desktop search. Following are key features of the dtSearch product line generally.
Terabyte Indexer. dtSearch products can index over a terabyte of text in a single index. They can also create and simultaneously search an unlimited number of indexes. Indexed search time is typically less than a second, even across terabytes of data. The beta also provides performance enhancements to a forensic indexing version of the terabyte indexer.
Built-In Proprietary File Parsers / Converters. dtSearch products embed dtSearch's own file parsers and converters covering a wide range of popular file types. The product line displays existing web-ready content like HTML, PDF and XML/XSL with highlighted hits, and with all images, links and formatting intact. The products convert other file types to XML or HTML for browser-based display with highlighted hits. The current version supports MS Office through MS Office 2010 (including current versions of Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), OpenOffice, CSV, ZIP, etc.
Support for Emails and Attachments. The dtSearch product line can also index and search email messages such as Exchange, Outlook and Thunderbird, as well as attachments, nested attachments, and zipped attachments.
Database Options. The dtSearch Engine has a data source API for indexing SQL-type databases along with BLOB data. The beta adds a native .NET 4.0 version of the database API.
.NET Spider API. The dtSearch Spider adds local or remote website content to a searchable data collection, including both static content like HTML, PDF, XSL/XML, and dynamic content like MS SharePoint, CMS, PHP and ASP.NET. The Spider supports public sites, intranets, and secure and password-accessible sites. Searches can span both local and remote content to any level of depth, and across any number of sites. A .NET Spider API, along with the beta .NET 4.0 Spider API, makes the Spider functionality accessible to programmers.
25+ Search Options; International Languages. dtSearch offers over 25 full-text and fielded data search options, including advanced federated search options and special forensics features. Unicode support covers all Unicode languages, including support for right-to-left languages and Chinese/Japanese/Korean character processing options.
Advanced Data Classification Objects. dtSearch developer products have a wide range of API filters and objects to support categorization via document full-text contents, document fields, database contents, or data attributes attached during indexing. The beta version enhances hierarchical sorting performance across data sets with millions of metadata tags. The metadata tags themselves may reside as fields inside of existing documents, in a structured database like SQL or XML, or as fields added "on the fly" during indexing.

Solta Medical Launches Ground-Breaking Social Media Campaign for Isolaz Brand
"Stop The Pop" Campaign Engages Younger Adults in Novel Acne Treatment
HAYWARD, Calif., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Solta Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLTM), a global leader in the medical aesthetics market, continues to break new ground with its innovative marketing campaigns. Solta Medical partnered with a leading YouTube trend-setter and trusted beauty advisor for young adults, Elle Fowler, to launch a first-of-its-kind social media campaign for Isolaz((TM)) acne therapy. Stop-The-Pop.com is an interactive web site that provides a platform encouraging visitors to share their personal experiences with acne and to dispel common misconceptions associated with the condition.
The Stop the Pop campaign has established a strong connection with young adults, a previously untapped market for Solta Medical. Visitors to the site can watch Elle's review of her own Isolaz treatment, submit testimonials of their own acne experiences, and receive the opportunity to be selected to try the treatment first-hand. Those entrants that are selected to join the "Pop Squad" will receive Isolaz treatments and will be encouraged to chronicle their experience online, like Elle.
In just one week since the launch, Stop the Pop has received overwhelming responses. Elle's first video has been viewed by more than 220,000 people in 110 countries and over 1,200 people have submitted their acne stories. The campaign just added an interactive game: Stop the Pop Ninja! Hosted on http://www.stop-the-pop.com, the game engages users to join the fight against acne, taking aim and blasting the causes of acne - much like the Isolaz system. This viral game gives visitors a reason to come back to the site and share the game with their friends.
"Introducing a new product, especially one aimed at a young demographic, is both exciting and challenging," said Jeff Nardoci, Vice President of Global Marketing, Solta Medical. "Stop the Pop is successful because it fills a need for an underserved consumer in the aesthetic industry -- young adults, who are looking for an acne treatment that works and one that helps them regain confidence."
In February 2010, Solta finalized the acquisition of Aesthera's acne treatment systems - the Isolaz and Isolaz Pro platforms. Both are based on proprietary Photopneumatic((TM) )technology and are the only laser or light based devices to receive FDA clearance for the treatment of mild-to-moderate acne, as well as acne vulgaris, comedonal acne and pustular acne. These conditions impact an estimated fifty million individuals in the U.S. annually. Isolaz treatments have an immediate visible impact on acne 24 - 48 hour post first treatment. Facial treatments take as little as 10 minutes, require no anesthetics or numbing creams, and provide additional cosmetic benefits such as smoother appearing skin.
"We are proud that Solta Medical has successfully integrated the Isolaz brand into our global sales and marketing organization and that we are providing physicians and their patients with an effective alternative to oral acne drug treatments and their associated side effects," said Stephen J. Fanning, Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Solta Medical. "At Solta Medical, we constantly strive to create emotional connections with our consumers and build programs that set us apart in our industry. This innovative campaign demonstrates the ongoing commitment that Solta makes when adding new brands to our portfolio."

StealthWatch Uses NetFlow-based Network Behavior Analysis for Application, Network and Security Monitoring
ATLANTA, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lancope, Inc., the leader in NetFlow(TM) collection and analysisand provider of StealthWatch for flow-based network performance and security monitoring, today announced that its award-winning StealthWatch platform is best-suited to help Global 2,000 corporations overcome next-generation Application Delivery 2.0 challenges. Enterprises are facing new challenges due to the emergence of a sophisticated mobile workforce, growth in cybercrime, virtualization and cloud computing.
Industry analysts, including Jim Metzler of Ashton, Metzler & Associates, recommend that IT organizations develop application delivery strategies to address both existing and next-generation challenges. For example, Application Delivery 2.0 challenges leave IT administrators with many daunting tasks on a daily basis to ensure optimal network performance and security, including: identifying the root cause of degraded application performance, preventing cyber threats and Denial of Service attacks and identifying the business network components that most closely support the business critical applications.
"The evolution of a new generation of network IT challenges increases the difficulty of ensuring acceptable application delivery. In order to be successful in this challenging environment, IT organizations need to develop a systematic approach to application delivery by implementing robust and scalable solutions such as StealthWatch," said Metzler. "Successful application delivery requires that IT organizations are able to identify the applications running on the network and are also able to ensure the acceptable performance of the applications relevant to the business while controlling or eliminating applications that are not relevant."
"Application delivery and visibility has become increasingly critical for managing enterprise networks. A growing mobile workforce, coupled with the explosion of new applications and increased use of virtual networks has created a greater risk of application and network performance disruptions. Exposure to threats from malware, data loss and other security breaches further acerbates these interruptions," said Mike Potts, president and CEO, Lancope. "Business objectives require the assurance of continuous, prompt delivery of mission-critical applications across the enterprise. Our award-winning StealthWatch solution provides, end-to-end, borderless visibility for network performance and security monitoring through a single platform, offering Global 2,000 corporations the only real choice today."
Lancope's StealthWatch is ideally suited to address Application Delivery 2.0 challenges, including:
Emergence of a Sophisticated Mobile Workforce
The number of workers working remotely and the growth of wireless devices being used on corporate networks is rising as much as 50 percent annually. Coupled with growth of bandwidth consuming applications, including streaming video, peer-to-peer file sharing and social networking applications such as Facebook and Twitter, IT administrators should leverage NetFlow to gain a better understanding of their network's performance.
Sophistication of Cybercrime
According to some experts, each data breach can cost a company $7 million USD. StealthWatch enables IT administrators to quickly identify unusual network behavior indicative of data loss and provides details about the users involved, the amount of data transferred, the services used, how long the communications lasted and if it was a recurring event. StealthWatch is the only solution that reduces data loss and scales to monitor security, network performance, and virtual operations for global networks - all from a single platform.
Adoption of Varying Forms of Virtualization
StealthWatch is the first NetFlow-based solution that solves visibility challenges on networks. StealthWatch detects vMotion services offered by each VM, unauthorized VM access, intra-VM traffic, and VMotion. StealthWatch's patented flow-based approach eliminates network blind spots, minimizes VM sprawl and reduces total network and security management costs.
Adoption of Cloud Computing
Corporations are adopting cloud computing strategies at varying rates and levels and Application Delivery 2.0 presents more integration challenges for IT administrators when determining which applications and services are delivered through the cloud. StealthWatch network monitoring functionality leverages NetFlow to actively detect network problems, security threats and internal employee misuse in real time across physical and virtual networks. It is able to detect and prioritize network performance issues, provide root cause determination and improve overall network performance.
About Lancope
Lancope®, Inc. is the leader in NetFlow collection and analysis and the provider of the StealthWatch® System for flow-based network performance and security monitoring. Delivering unified visibility across physical and virtual networks, StealthWatch eliminates network blind spots and reduces total network and security management costs. SUSE Appliance Toolkit 1.1 adds support for Amazon EC2, KVM and OVF virtualization formats, and new data center capabilities
WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Novell today announced significant advances to its SUSE® Appliance Toolkit, which features the award-winning solution SUSE Studio(TM) and a comprehensive suite of tools designed to make Linux-powered applications portable and cloud-enabled. This latest version of the toolkit supports the creation of Amazon EC2 images, new virtualization formats and advanced data center capabilities. As a result, independent software vendors (ISVs) and enterprises can build optimized application images in minutes rather than days for deployment in private and public clouds.
SUSE® Appliance Toolkit, a WorkloadIQ(TM)( )product, is a comprehensive collection of tools that help independent software vendors (ISVs) and enterprise IT departments reduce the complexity of software deployment, maintenance and support costs across physical, virtual and cloud environments. ISVs and enterprises can accelerate the delivery of applications to the cloud through SUSE Appliance Toolkit's guided appliance building and integrated "testdrive" feature that enables rapid testing and iteration.

New to SUSE Appliance Toolkit 1.1
Novell has enhanced the many tools available in SUSE Appliance Toolkit - SUSE Studio Onsite, WebYaST, SUSE Lifecycle Management Server and support for KIWI - by adding features including:
-- Build Amazon EC2 images - announced in August 2010 as part of the SUSE
Cloud Program, Amazon Web Services will soon offer on-demand instances
of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with hourly pricing; now ISVs and
enterprises alike can build SUSE Linux Enterprise-based application
images for Amazon EC2 using SUSE Appliance Toolkit.
-- Support for KVM and OVF virtual machine formats - expands the breadth of
virtual environments for which ISVs and enterprises can quickly package
their applications, enabling greater flexibility and, with OVF, greater
portability.
-- Support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 - delivers the
industry's broadest virtualization capabilities, powerful advances in
performance, reliability and security, and more flexible maintenance and
support options, thus enabling enterprises to reduce cost and risk
whether they are consuming ISV appliances or building their own
cloud-enabled application images.
-- Advanced capabilities for enterprises - expands the scope of supported
applications and use cases. New enhancements including network booting
via PXE, reassembly of larger physical disks into logical disks using
LVM, and importing of existing KIWI and AutoYaST scripts. ISVs can also
use these features to meet the needs of their large data center
customers.
"Cloud computing offers the promise of agility and speed to market, but organizations often lack the tools to quickly and efficiently deploy their applications to cloud environments," said Markus Rex, senior vice president and general manager of Open Platform Solutions at Novell. "The software appliance form factor - a pre-configured combination of operating system, middleware and application - provides the ideal bridge to the cloud. With SUSE Appliance Toolkit, enterprises and technology providers can create, test and enhance applications for cloud infrastructures, all in a few minutes."
About the SUSE Appliance Toolkit
SUSE Appliance Toolkit is part of the SUSE Appliance Program, a comprehensive business and technology program that helps ISVs simplify appliance creation, reduce development and support costs, and extend applications to the cloud. End-to-End Solution Puts Digital Signage Inside Corporate Lobbies, Cafeterias, and Campuses for Better Company-wide Communications
SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Keystone Enterprise Services, the leader in large-scale enterprise video services, today unveiled its new service, Keystone Lobby Signage Solutions, which gives corporate communications and media managers in medium-to-large enterprises a powerful new tool for providing centrally managed, instant campus-wide and company-wide communications via networked digital signage.
Keystone's Lobby Signage Solutions puts digital video screens in company locations such as lobbies, cafeterias, break rooms, manufacturing plants, and other locations - so organizations can reach employees where they work. Companies can project their branded messages to lobby visitors. Organizations can broadcast important videos, messages, news, or training information across their campus and to all their locations. The service also offers an effective medium for communicating with groups of workers who may not have individual phone or Internet access, for example, in retail, manufacturing, and other facilities.
Keystone's Lobby Signage is an end-to-end service that includes on-site hardware installation and support for every screen, and a fully hosted content management system - so companies do not have to purchase and install their own equipment, software and network.
Web-based control lets communications managers author, apply a host of graphics and effects, upload, and manage the transmission and display of live streams and file-based digital screen media via the web. Content management and hosting is provided on secure servers, with content delivered via any number of network connections including cellular, 3G, Internet, satellite, and Wi-Fi. The service can deploy quickly in just weeks, but can efficiently scale to thousands of screen locations around the world.
Keystone's screen-level control advantage offers control of the network down to individual screens, so a corporate communications department can remotely force-tune screens to its own channel, or tune screens to other channels inside or outside the network. Multimedia managers can remotely switch between multiple channels to display relevant content for specific locations such as lobbies, cafeterias, or training rooms.
"For thirty years, leading companies have continued to rely on Keystone for large-scale and secure business video and interactive training networks that serve thousands of sites and screens around the world," said Dan Loveless, SVP Sales & Marketing of Keystone Enterprise Services. "With this service we give communications managers a new medium for communicating even more effectively inside the organization via digital signage."
Keystone Enterprise executives will be available to brief interested media at the 2010 Communications Media Managers Association (CMMA) 2010 Annual Fall Conference October 2nd - 5th in Clearwater Beach, Florida.

'Scripps Fellows' Program to Strengthen Local News Coverage on Multiple Platforms
CINCINNATI, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Leveraging its strength and reputation in an effort to define the future of journalism, The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP) is shifting resources within its newspaper division to add multimedia journalists, editors and web developers in the company's 13 newspaper markets.
Through the new Scripps Fellows program, as many as 40 people will be hired for full-time positions that will last either six or 12 months. Recent college graduates or other individuals with relevant journalism or Web experience can apply for the positions. Scripps will hire promising talent in the fields of:
-- multimedia reporting,
-- online production,
-- Web development,
-- Web design,
-- user-experience analysis,
-- copy editing, and
-- page design
The fellows will be hired in October and November and will contribute to the community-changing journalism of Scripps newspapers, which include: The Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel; Naples (Fla.) Daily News; the Scripps Treasure Coast newspapers in the Florida markets of Stuart, Vero Beach and Ft. Pierce; Evansville (Ind.) Courier & Press and The (Henderson, Ky.) Gleaner; The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, Tenn.; Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times; Ventura County (Calif.) Star; Wichita Falls (Texas) Times Record News; Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News; San Angelo (Texas) Standard Times; Redding (Calif.) Record Searchlight; Kitsap (Wash.) Sun; and the Anderson (S.C.) Independent-Mail.
"The Scripps Fellows program will bring fresh talent to Scripps communities across the country," said Chris Doyle, vice president of content for the company's newspaper division. "The fellows will tackle pivotal responsibilities on the front lines of editorial coverage, strengthening our ability to produce impactful storytelling for our growing audience of print and online readers. They will benefit from our newsrooms' focus on editorial excellence, and our permanent employees will benefit from the new perspectives of the visiting fellows."
??Prospective fellows can learn more and apply for the program by friending "Scripps News Online" through Facebook.
Racing toward the future of news
The launch of the Scripps Fellows program corresponds with continued implementation of Scripps 3.0, a project launched last year that reorganizes the newspaper division vertically by function and centralizes many functions that are not market-specific. Scripps 3.0 increases the emphasis of local management on market-leading news content.
Since assuming responsibility for the content of Scripps newspapers four months ago, Doyle has worked with the company's editors, Web site administrators and corporate interactive managers to reformulate the division's content strategy. Their initial discussions led to The Future of News, a series produced by the Scripps Howard News Service and journalists from all Scripps newspapers about the business-model challenges faced by companies that create original, credible news content. (More information and open online discussions about the project can be found by searching "future of news" at Facebook.)
The Future of News project prompted the newspaper division's leaders to pursue new content strategies, with more than a dozen internal committees meeting regularly to cover topics ranging from quality improvement to social and mobile initiatives.
With so many resources dedicated to charting the long-term course for Scripps newspapers, the Scripps Fellows will help with the papers' short-term needs.
"We're positioned to be one of the most-innovative voices in the evolution of the newspaper industry," said Doyle. "Because of the introspection we went through during the summer, we know we must be bold and entrepreneurial to be leaders in the next season of local media - and these initiatives prove that. Launching the Scripps Fellows program to bring in some of the country's best young talent for the short term means our communities will continue to enjoy meaningful news coverage from a trusted source while some of our experienced journalists and newspaper managers tackle big-picture structural changes that are crucial for our future."
Mark Contreras, senior vice president of newspapers for Scripps, agreed. "We're taking active steps to strengthen our current resources while bringing to our communities the benefit of the industry's brightest new-media minds. Scripps is committed to staying focused on long-term strategies that make us increasingly valuable to our expanding audiences. I'm confident that this investment in talent will benefit our company and our communities many years from now."

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Zinch (http://www.zinch.com) and US Educational Group (USEG) (http://www.usegtours.com) today announced a new set of services designed to help North American and European undergraduate and graduate programs identify best-fit candidates in the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa and Turkey. The announcement was made at the National Conference of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
According to the latest "Open Doors" report from the Institute of International Education, more than 50,000 students from these regions are studying in the United States. This makes them collectively the fourth largest group of international students, ahead of students from Canada. In addition to being top performers and bringing diverse perspectives, many students from this region also receive full scholarships from their country.
By using the new services, colleges and universities will be able to identify candidates by a variety of criteria, such as gender, test scores, and English ability. The schools will be able to deliver highly-personalized messages to these prospects, in English and in local languages, via the Zinch social media platform. In addition, schools will have access to market intelligence and online marketing services to help them learn more about these important regions, and build brand awareness for their programs.
"Earlier this year we launched Zinch in China, which has exceeded our expectations," said Anne Dwane, President of Zinch. "We are delighted to extend our services to the Middle East, Central Asia, Northern Africa and Turkey, in partnership with USEG, the highly-respected organizer of international education fairs in these regions. Now our clients can cost-effectively recruit high-quality prospects in four of the world's most-important regions: China, the Middle East, Central Asia and Turkey."
By working with Zinch, schools interested in these regions can easily develop a multi-channel recruiting strategy that takes advantage of the extraordinary popularity of online social media in these areas. Their online marketing efforts can also be used to support personal visits to the region, via USEG Tours and on their own.
"For the past 15 years, we have carefully established the leading international education fairs in the Middle East," said Joseph Humadi, CEO and Founder of USEG. "We know that not every school can actually visit the Middle East, and we are always looking for more ways to help high-quality students connect with great schools in North America and Europe. The industry-leading online social media approach developed by Zinch is a great way to help these students."

Locayta Launches Search Engine for iPad and iPhone Platform
LONDON, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Locayta, one of the leading providers of online merchandising and site search solutions, has made its Enterprise-level search software available on the iOS platform as a Beta release for iOS software developers to incorporate within their iOS apps.
Locayta Search, which is currently deployed on some of the UK's largest search sites and on more than one hundred online retail and publishing sites, provides the foundation for a successful mobile edition of the search engine for the iOS platform. Its intelligent architecture enables fast, accurate full-text search and retrieval on a local device such as an iPhone or iPad.
Locayta Search Mobile comes with many intelligent capabilities including; word-stemming, automatic spell correction, Boolean operators, field weighting, sorting, filtering, synonyms, facet generation, stop words, 'more like this', threshold cut-offs and Locayta's unique Balance Factor technology.
Locayta's Balance Factor allows search results to be skewed by other metrics such as popularity rather than just pure text relevancy, enabling the app developer to control the sequencing of search results within their apps, to boost certain items to the top of the search results list where required.
Because Locayta Search Mobile enables data to be written, indexed and searched locally to the device, it has already started to attract interest from software app developers, where the app is anticipated to be used in environments where an internet connection is not available or cannot be guaranteed.
Andre Brown, CEO, Locayta explains, "The iPhone and iPad have changed the way publishers present their data and how consumers receive it. Locayta Search Mobile offers online publishers a competitive advantage by providing a complete search engine library- not just a web service, to better serve their customer search queries and overall online shopping experience".
Locayta is one of the leading online merchandising and onsite search solution providers, serving more than one hundred customers in the USA, Europe and Asia. Locayta enables eCommerce businesses to take total control over their online sales performance with the most advanced behavioural and search driven merchandising technology available, Locayta ESP(TM).
