Sweden-Based Symetium Looks to Crowdfunding to Bring No Compromise SmartPhone PC to Market
With 3 years of development and a huge response from Social Media, Symetium is ready to launch its Crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo. The passion project of a young Entrepreneur, delivers design and functionality without sacrificing quality to deliver his idea of the perfect phone.
GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sweden based Symetium, has been focused on creating the perfect phone for more than 3 years. What started as a passion project for young Entrepreneur, Jonathan Gustafsson, has quickly turned into a global social media effort to bring the no compromise smartphone PC to market.
Gustafsson has worked diligently to bring the initial design together so that Symetium can move forward with the next stage. With nearly 30,000 likes on Facebook, Gustafsson is ready to harness the power of the crowd, with the launch of its IndieGoGo campaign on September 29th.
Although it appears as a simple mobile device, Symetium is designed to be far more than a traditional smartphone. The true purpose of Symetium according to Gustafsson was "to create a device that removes the line between mobile and desktop devices." The original design concept was to deliver the same level performance as a full desktop PC hardware but with the form factor to meet the needs of the mobile market.
"With Symetium, I want to go past mobile operating systems and join the two together. It is time for phones to stop being phones as they are much more than that and have been for years," said Gustafsson.
In his efforts to create the perfect blend of design and function, Gustafsson has been engaging his future customers via Social Media since the project began. As a Google YouTube partner with over 125,000 followers, he knows that by harnessing the power of the crowd, where shared ideas can make great solutions even better.
Gustafsson has built the operating system from the ground up (based on Android Marshmallow) to work perfectly with a mouse, keyboard and touch control interface. Symetium has been designed to provide streaming UI to various displays via a portable dock or USB connection. This allows you to run multiple environments without interrupting your phone for unparalleled transfer of function and data whether at home or on the move.
"In my eyes Symetium will always be a 5 inch portable computer that can make calls and that's how it was built. This means that there will be no limitation when it's used without a simcard."
The phone comes with a USB type c connection allowing it to be connected to any external HDMI supported display. Once connected, it becomes a precise trackpad for the external screen.
"Symetium is my idea of the perfect phone, both in design and functionality," says Gustafsson.
With a target funding goal of $1.25 million for its production, Symetium is looking to disrupt the smartphone industry without compromise.

Microsoft Azure delivers market-leading innovations
Advances the intelligent cloud with new solutions that span app development, big data, IoT and cloud infrastructure.
REDMOND, Washington, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tuesday at AzureCon, Microsoft Corp. is announcing new solutions spanning containers, security, infrastructure and the Internet of Things (IoT) that enable organizations of all sizes to transform their business in today's mobile-first, cloud-first world. Through these latest advancements, Microsoft continues to showcase rapid innovation on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, while enabling choice and simplicity for a growing list of customers of all sizes including Alaska Airlines, Jet.com Inc. and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nepal.
"We live in a connected world, and the intelligent cloud is powering it all," said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Microsoft's Cloud + Enterprise Division. "As data and devices continue to proliferate, there is vast opportunity for businesses to tap into their data to make their applications more intelligent. Through our offerings across applications, data and IoT, and cloud infrastructure, we are enabling companies to innovate more easily and rapidly, using the tools and platforms they know and love."
Modern applications: driving innovation through choice and simplicity
Applications are at the heart of business growth and transformation, and containerization is an increasingly popular way to maximize application value. Furthering its commitment to container technology and extending customer choice, Microsoft announced a new Azure Container Service that will combine the openness of Apache Mesos and Docker with the hyper-scale of Azure for container orchestration and management. With the service, organizations using Azure will now be able to easily deploy and configure Mesos to cluster and schedule Dockerized applications across multiple virtual hosts. Unlike many other container services in market today, this offering is based on open source to enable customer choice across the ecosystem and will support Windows Server containers in the future. The service will be available for preview by the end of the year.
"With large-scale production users like Airbnb, Twitter and Apple, Apache Mesos is the most scalable and flexible container orchestration platform available on the market today," said Florian Leibert, co-founder and CEO, Mesosphere. "At the same time, Microsoft continues its rapid growth and enterprise cloud leadership, with more than 80 percent of the Fortune 500 using Microsoft's cloud to power their businesses. The partnership between Mesosphere and Microsoft will give customers unmatched choice and flexibility in managing their container investments, delivering a first-class implementation and enterprise support experience on Azure."
Internet of Things and big data: transforming business through data insights
The intelligent cloud is powered by data -- and innovation is limitless when that data can be shared, gleaned for insights across connected assets, devices and systems. To that end, Microsoft announced that its Azure IoT Suite is now available for customers to purchase. The Azure IoT Suite integrates with a company's existing processes, devices and systems to quickly and easily build and scale IoT projects across their business using preconfigured solutions. In addition, Microsoft announced the new Microsoft Azure Certified for IoT program, an ecosystem of partners whose offerings have been tested and certified so businesses can take their next IoT project from testing to production, more quickly. Current partners include BeagleBone, Freescale Intel Corporation, Raspberry Pi, Resin.io, Seeed Technology Inc., and Texas Instruments Inc.
To further enable customers to better manage their data Microsoft yesterday announced the expansion of Azure Data Lake. This includes Azure Data Lake Analytics, Azure Data Lake Store, a new programming language U-SQL, and Azure HDInsight general availability on Linux. Helping customers be productive from day one, Azure Data Lake makes big data processing and analytics simpler and more accessible for everyone.
Intelligent infrastructure: enabling innovation and trust at hyper-scale
Demonstrating its commitment to delivering trusted cloud services and infrastructure, on Tuesday Microsoft announced the availability of Microsoft Azure services in India. As the first global public cloud provider in India, Microsoft has opened three new regions -- Central India in Pune, South India in Chennai, and West India in Mumbai -- which will provide local customers with data residency and replication in multiple regions while fueling innovation and digital transformation within India. With 24 Azure regions around the world -- more than any other major cloud provider -- this latest expansion is further proof of Microsoft's commitment to bring its cutting-edge cloud to as many customers as possible. Azure services are available in India today, with Office 365 services slated for availability in October, and Dynamics CRM Online services to follow in the first half of 2016.
Security is often cited as a top concern when moving to the cloud. Customers today are looking for greater control, transparency and protection across their cloud infrastructure and assets. To help meet this demand, on Tuesday Microsoft announced Azure Security Center, a new integrated experience that gives customers visibility and control of the security of their Azure resources without impeding agility, and helps customers stay ahead of threats even as they evolve.
This first-of-its-kind service integrates with security solutions from companies such as Barracuda, Checkpoint, Cisco Systems Inc., CloudFlare, F5 Networks, Imperva, Incapsula and Trend Micro Inc. In addition to enabling integrated security, monitoring and policy management, Azure Security Center also provides invaluable recommendations. By analyzing information gathered from customers' deployments and comparing with global threat intelligence aggregated by Microsoft, the service introduces a unique ability in the industry to detect threats while taking the guesswork out of cloud security. Azure Security Center will be broadly available for Azure customers by the end of the year.
Finally, continuing investments to deliver industry-leading compute capacity, Microsoft is announcing the N-series, a new family of Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) powered by NVIDIA GPUs. GPUs have long been used for compute and graphics-intensive workloads. Microsoft is the first hyper-scale provider to announce VMs featuring NVIDIA Grid 2.0 technology and the industry-leading Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform for professional graphics applications, deep learning, high-performance computing and more. A preview will be available in a few months.
Easy and affordable cloud innovation
As demonstrated at AzureCon, Microsoft is committed to helping customers manage their cloud investments easily and affordably, with new troubleshooting tools, support resources and pricing options. On Tuesday Microsoft announced the Azure Compute Pre-Purchase Plan, a new pricing program designed for customers with steady state, predictable workloads on Azure. With this new offer, customers who pre-purchase Azure compute for one year can realize cost savings of up to 63 percent. This plan will be available globally starting Dec. 1.
More information on the innovations in this release and a full list of the innovations Microsoft announced today can be found at the AzureCon blog and by viewing the keynotes live or on demand at AzureCon.

Escort Inc. Unveils Max 360, Its Smartest, Most Intuitive Radar and Laser Detector
The cutting edge detector features dual antenna detection technology that uses arrows to show drivers where a threat is coming from - front, rear or side
WEST CHESTER, Ohio, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Escort Inc., the industry leader in radar and laser detection technology, today unveils Max 360(TM), its smartest, most intuitive radar and laser detector. The Max 360 features dual antenna detection technology that can detect multiple threats simultaneously and uses arrows to show drivers where a threat is coming from - front, rear or side - each time the detector alerts. The combination of dual antenna detection technology, directional arrows and Escort's GPS plus AutoLearn technology makes this detector one-of-a-kind.
The Max 360's directional arrows not only show drivers where a threat is coming from - front, rear or side, but they are also color-coded to represent the frequency of the source - blue for "X Band," yellow for "K Band" and red for "Ka Band" - and are displayed alongside the relative signal strength. Both visual and audio alerts are provided to stimulate all necessary senses, keeping drivers informed and safe while on the road.
Additionally, Max 360 utilizes GPS and Escort's AutoLearn technology to learn the nuances of most frequently traveled routes, rejecting false alerts in real time. This combination of GPS, AutoLearn technology and arrow detection has never before been incorporated into one radar detector - allowing the user an informed yet quiet driving experience with minimal interruptions. The Max 360 also leverages Escort's proprietary DEFENDER Database to flag upcoming stationary threats like red light cameras and known air patrol and speed traps to help drivers make informed, safe decisions.
The Max 360 is also compatible with Escort's award-winning app, Escort Live!, which displays the current posted speed limit alongside the vehicle's current speed. Escort Live! connects drivers with every other Escort Live! user, turbocharging road awareness by incorporating crowdsourced alerts from detectors and app users on the road ahead.
"While many in-car devices serve to distract drivers from the road, the Max 360 is a non-intrusive device that helps drivers stay focused on the road and their immediate surroundings," says David Thornhill, CEO, Escort Inc. "As the industry leader in this space we feel obligated to lead the way in developing technology that is innovative, useful and smart. We feel that we've really hit the mark with the Max 360 and we're offering a ticket protection guarantee to back it up."
A built-in USB port allows the Max 360 to continue to get smarter over time with easy firmware and Database updates. A new magnetic mount feature makes set-up simple and efficient.
The Max 360 is priced at $649.95 and for a limited time, when purchased factory-direct, the Max 360 comes with a ticket protection guarantee, a first for an Escort windshield-mounted detector. Visit http://www.escortradar.com or call 866.709.8744 for details.

FlowPlay Kicks Off Casual Fantasy Sports Gaming with Launch of 5 Card Draft
Alongside Launch of New Online Fantasy Sports Card Game, Company Announces Survey Findings Illustrating Fantasy Sports Enthusiasm Among Social Casino Users
SEATTLE, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- FlowPlay, a leader in virtual world games and technology, today announced the launch of 5 Card Draft - an online multiplayer card game and fantasy football experience. Now available within FlowPlay's social casino Vegas World, 5 Card Draft is the first-ever casual game to merge poker gameplay with fantasy sports drafting mechanics. In addition to the launch, FlowPlay also announced findings from a recent survey of Vegas World players, which examined casual gamers' interest in fantasy sports. The survey found that one third of casual gamers - defined in the survey as users who are "extremely interested" in casual games - are interested in online fantasy sports, and more than 50 percent expressed heightened interest if real money betting was not required.
According to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, 56.8 million people will play fantasy sports this year in the United States and Canada, with each player spending an average of $465 on fantasy sports activities annually. While most of those players engage in season-long fantasy, daily fantasy offerings such as FanDuel and DraftKings have rapidly increased general interest in online, daily fantasy sports. With 5 Card Draft, FlowPlay is working to close the gap between daily fantasy sports experiences and the widely established and legal casual games industry. With millions of fantasy sports players, and more than one-third of the U.S. population classifying themselves as causal gamers (eMarketer), the market opportunity is significant.
Bringing the fun of poker and fantasy with friends, 5 Card Draft randomly selects five cards for up to five players in any given game. Each card has a different professional football player and a hand will always include a quarterback, kicker, running back, and two wide receivers. Those players are selected from any of the 32 football teams, with two trades allowed per hand. Points are earned based on each player's stats from the randomly determined year and week of the season for that round. The winner is then determined at the end of six rounds.
To better understand the demand for a casual fantasy sports game, FlowPlay surveyed more than 4,700 Vegas World players on their casual game playing habits and interest in fantasy sports. The findings reveal that 57 percent of the most dedicated casual gamers would be more inclined to play fantasy sports if real money was not involved. Further, users that classified themselves as fantasy sports players - 79 percent - said they would also engage more if there was an option to do so without using real money.
Additional statistics from the survey include:
-- 76 percent of fantasy players are also interested in casual games, with
56 percent of non-fantasy sports players interested in sports in
general.
-- More than one-third (37 percent) of respondents who have previously
played fantasy sports still feel uncomfortable spending money on online
fantasy sports.
-- 71 percent of all respondents reported that they would be more inclined
to engage with fantasy sports if they combined elements of casual
gaming.
-- Over three-quarters (76 percent) of fantasy players would be more
inclined to play a casual fantasy sports game if it included multiplayer
functionality.
"With the current landscape of the fantasy sports market, millions of sports enthusiasts have largely been alienated from engaging in fantasy sports due to the complexity and time required to play the existing products," said Derrick Morton, CEO of FlowPlay. "5 Card Draft is the first of several products that we'll be launching in the coming months that aim to intersect casual games and fantasy sports. With the goal of connecting with unreached audiences, our fantasy sports games will include a range of gameplay options and feature sports beyond football."
In addition to FlowPlay's flagship social casino Vegas World, the company also developed the industry's first social casino white-label product. With deep experience working with major brands and developers, FlowPlay now also offers white-label options to businesses interested in creating casual fantasy sports games.
The full survey findings are available upon request.

Fete's Smart Invitation Cards Get You Over 80% RSVP
Fete reimagines the digital invitation card as a richer medium for social planning and group messaging, promising to break through the silence that often greets digital invites sent through Evite and Facebook. The goal: actually getting people together.
ATLANTA, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fête, available today on iOS and Android, offers an easy and effective way to blueprint a brunch date with best friends or a birthday extravaganza with all friends.
Over 10 billion digital invitations are sent annually through Facebook, Evite, text message, and email. Yet most invites don't actualize into events because they're made using burdensome, planner-dependent solutions like Evite or cluttered, disorganized solutions like group messaging.
"We aim to solve these problems by keeping the event conversation organized on our stylish, smart invitation cards, and ensure completion through group collaboration and data-driven notifications," said co-founder Sanket Shah.
Users can simply title an invitation card and decide the details, or they can let friends suggest their favorite places and desired dates. Providing input is streamlined and simple with ratings, descriptions, calendars, and commenting readily available within the app.
Fête intelligently follows up with guests at the right time, with the right message, to nudge the planning to completion. Guests without the app can fully interact with the cards through text message and soon through their email and calendar.
"With our multimodal smart cards, we're seeing average RSVP rates of 84%, over twice that of existing services. That's a game-changer. You simply title a card, and our technology can handle the rest," explained co-founder Raj Parikh.
Eventually, Fête will send personalized recommendations for dinners, festivals, and other events that users can easily forward to their friends to get the ball rolling. To this end, Fête has already partnered with several local businesses, and intends to launch this feature in the near future.

BAS Leverages DDN Storage to Maximize Big Data Insights, Increase Storage Reliability and Deliver 10x Boost in Storage Capacity within Smaller Data Center Footprint
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DataDirect Networks (DDN) today announced that British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has deployed DDN's SFA7700X hybrid flash storage appliance to meet an exponential surge in research data and complex climate models that are helping to shed light on major environmental issues such as the impact of global warming on the Antarctic ice shelf.
As one of the world's leading environmental research centers, BAS embraces a research strategy called Polar Science for Planet Earth, which includes months-long expeditions on ice-strengthened ships to measure as much of the Antarctic environment as possible.
BAS collects and preserves vast amounts of critical data about what exists above and below the seafloor. Additionally, as the European hub of SuperDARN - a major global project focused on measuring and modeling the impact of various atmospheric conditions on the Antarctic ice-shelf - BAS is responsible for sharing massive amounts of data with the global research community.
Faced with collecting 10 times more data than a decade ago and twice as much data as last year, BAS required high-performance storage that could grow-in-place at its space-constrained data center in Cambridge, England. With DDN's SFA7700X, BAS extracts maximum performance and value from both spinning disk and flash media.
"Over the last 10 to 15 years our data increase has been around 75 percent year on year. The ability to blend some of the fastest online storage with near-line storage in one solution meets our demands for performance-optimized solutions," said Jeremy Robst, IT support engineer and head of Unix systems for British Antarctic Survey. "DDN helps us to manage our research needs with reliable, scalable Lustre and VMware support, helping us and the research community gain more insight from our big data sets."
Tweet this: .@BAS_News gains 10x boost in #storage capacity to manage surge in research data & climate models w/ @ddn_limitless http://bit.ly/1LeQZvJ
In addition to maximizing Big Data insights, BAS sought increased reliability to ensure 24/7 access to research data and scientific modeling demands. A small yet dedicated IT team also needed to address a growing VMware environment while supporting the move to a Lustre parallel file system to accommodate evolving needs and to align seamlessly with the Cambridge-based research community.
By moving to DDN's SFA7700X, BAS now enables scientists and researchers to take advantage of a mix of flash and rotating media to cost-effectively speed performance of different applications and models, including the weather forecasting model used by the UK's Hadley Center for Climate Prediction and Research, the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and the MIT General Circulation Model (MITgcm), which assists with studying the atmosphere, climate and ocean.
Thanks to DDN's high-density configuration, BAS has been able to cut data center space dedicated to storage by almost half while increasing capacity by over 10x. "DDN's density is our No. 1 benefit as we now can grow capacity without increasing our storage footprint in the data center," added Robst. "The ability to increase storage without needing more power or space will make a big difference in the future." BAS can continue to upgrade its existing storage, adding more SFA7700X systems to achieve a three-to-four times increase of up to 1.5 PBs of storage capacity within the same footprint.

MBX Expands Custom Server Appliance Manufacturing to Europe
Expedites Access to Global Markets for Software Vendors Based in US or Europe
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MBX Systems, a US-based designer and manufacturer of custom server appliances for OEMs and ISVs, today announced the addition of manufacturing operations in Europe to its existing EU logistics and support services. Both US and EU vendors that deliver their software applications pre-integrated on hardware systems for turnkey deployment can now have appliances built to order in Europe with the same documentation and quality control processes used at the company's US plant, providing consistency and cost-effective support for global sales needs.
"We have offered warehousing in The Netherlands for systems built in the US, next-day delivery throughout most of Europe, demo unit management, return diagnosis and repairs, and other services in the EU for a number of years, but we've seen steadily rising demand for EU manufacturing as our customers' sales presence in Europe has grown," said Carl Nothnagel, MBX Vice President of Operations. "Adding production allows us to provide a full complement of post-engineering services to help US customers serve their EU clients in a timely manner as well as to help EU customers access the US market."
As in the US, the manufacturing service provided in MBX's Dutch facility yields fully customized hardware platforms that are designed to optimize the performance of the OEM's or ISV's software, pre-loaded with the relevant software application, branded to meet customer needs, and covered by MBX's lifecycle management program to avoid problems associated with outdated componentry.
The addition of EU manufacturing expands those benefits by offering:
-- The ability to source systems from the same builder on two continents,
simplifying the supply chain while also assuring consistent quality.
-- No overseas shipping charges, customs or import taxes associated with
moving finished systems from the US to MBX's EU warehouse facility after
manufacture.
-- Just-in-time software imaging, custom configuration and other final
assembly processes in the EU for systems destined for EU end customers,
ensuring use of the most current software version as well as enabling
rapid response to special end user needs such as different network
controllers and host bus adapters.
-- Reliable EU availability for vendors with variable sales forecasts that
make it difficult to plan far enough ahead to take advantage of bulk
pallet overseas shipping rates for hardware systems built in the US.
Finished base systems can be warehoused at MBX's facility in The Netherlands for on-demand delivery to end customers as well as access to thousands of forward stocking depots around the world.
Customers building in the EU also have the same choice of base hardware platforms as those building in the US, including HP Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) servers offering full global support. That includes built-in compliance with global certification standards for easy worldwide sales, a global warranty on HP equipment that travels with the finished system, and HP technical support spanning more than 180 countries to expedite problem resolution.
Customers utilizing MBX's contract manufacturing services on either continent also gain the benefits of:
-- Easy API integration between their business software and MBX's via MBX's
REST API, making it possible to sync ordering, fulfillment, inventory
and billing information between systems without placing integration
responsibilities on the customer's staff.
-- A unique pay-by-the-month subscription option that eliminates capital
outlays, inventory commitments, the risk of obsolete inventory, and
other hardware-related overhead. The program, called MBX Clear, is
particularly valuable for SaaS ISVs needing an on-premise hardware
deployment option, allowing them to bill software and hardware on one
consolidated monthly invoice.
-- A full-featured password-protected online customer portal enabling
customers to monitor manufacturing status of any order, track global
inventory, set inventory reorder points, manage all logistics including
shipping and RMAs, and access a complete history of all orders and other
activity, and more.
MBX will be exhibiting at Stand #F14 at the IP EXPO Europe 2015 conference that opens October 7 in London.

MOCAheart Makes Cardiovascular Health Monitoring Accessible To Millions
New blood flow velocity index that simplifies at-home heart health tracking is correlated to blood pressure
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- This World Heart Day (September 29, 2015) monitoring and managing cardiovascular health just got easier and more accessible for millions with today's launch of MOCAheart from MOCACARE. Boasting beauty and brains, MOCAheart is an elegant smart device that gives people an intuitive new way to track their heart health without the need for bulky cuffs or complicated monitors.
MOCAheart aims to help combat the issues relating to heart disease which, according to the CDC, is responsible for 1 in 4 deaths in America. Utilizing a "press and go" technique, MOCAheart combines thumb scans with sophisticated algorithms that measure blood flow and velocity to determine heart rate and blood oxygen levels, as well as an easy-to-understand indicator of overall cardiovascular health called the MOCA INDEX - a qualitative measurement of blood flow that is correlated to blood pressure. While systolic and diastolic figures can be hard to understand or remember, the MOCA INDEX is a simple 1-5 scale that provides an instant snapshot of your cardiovascular health.
"We are excited to introduce MOCAheart and realize our ambition of empowering people to proactively monitor their heart health without interrupting their lifestyle," said Naama Stauber, co-founder and COO of MOCACARE. "By combining the latest developments in technology and medical science we have been able to deliver a device that will empower millions to effectively and effortlessly track cardiovascular health in taking action to prevent or minimize the well-known risks associated with heart disease."
With a gentle grip of the MOCAheart device, the optical sensor scans both thumbs then displays results on the accompanying iOS app within 25 seconds. The simple MOCA INDEX 1-5 scale (Low, Ideal, Raised, High or Very High) provides an immediate, understandable overview of cardiovascular health, explanation of indicators and recommendations on next steps, should any be required.
The MOCAheart App allows users to see their heart health insights over time and track progress. It enables users to set reminders to take readings, and easily text and share health status updates among loved ones and with their healthcare providers.
MOCAheart is not a replacement for recommended medical testing, but is a simple and quick tool that empowers people to track their health and take action when results are outside the normal range.
The MOCA INDEX was created with reference to multiple and extensive research studies by institutions including MIT & Stanford that have consistently shown a correlation between the pressure exerted by the heart and the speed at which blood travels through the body.
Since MOCAheart does not offer medical recommendations or is used to diagnose or treat medical conditions, it does not require FDA clearance. MOCACARE does plan to pursue FDA clearance in the future to enhance its offerings using the data collected from MOCAheart for a clinical indication for use.

Validian Discusses Completion and Go-To-Market Strategy for ValidianProtect 3.1
OTTAWA, Ontario, September 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Validian Corporation (OTCQB VLDI), a leading innovator in cyber-security technology,
today issued an update on the implications of the completion and roll out of the newest
version of its core technology, ValidianProtect 3.1, as well as its go-to-market strategy
designed to populate endpoints for companies operating in the mobile sector.
As indicated in recent announcements, the Company has concentrated its technical and
financial resources during the past year in completing the development of ValidianProtect
3.1 instead of furthering roll out of earlier versions. Validian also has spent the past
year in "demand-push" marketing and sales efforts with existing and prospective channel
partners and customers. The Company gave numerous technical presentations and
demonstrations of its technology during the development stages designed to explore and
identify revenue generating opportunities, as well as the development of technically
advanced mobile applications that both take advantage of, and highlight and demonstrate
the secure capabilities enabled by, ValidianProtect 3.1.
Bruce Benn, Validian President and CEO, commented, "Validian is pleased to announce
that since Q2, and furthered by the successful testing and review of ValidianProtect 3.1
by certain channel partners during Q3, our marketing efforts have started to turn into
"demand-pull" wherein certain channel partners and customers have added and continue to
add to our sales pipeline, with orders for Validian-enabled applications that are nearing
completion of development, are in the process of development or are in plans for
commencing development in the near future."
The go-to-market-strategy of Validian and certain channel partners is focused, among
other things, on the development of technically advanced secure mobile applications and
secure web applications for mobile that will populate the platforms of major companies in
the mobile sector with large numbers of endpoints from existing and new end-users of these
applications on those platforms. These platforms include mobile operating systems, mobile
devices, cloud platforms, advertising platforms and real and virtual servers.
These Validian-enabled applications will generate added revenues for all parties from
licensing for, and/or advertising on or through, these secure mobile applications and
secure web applications and from increased sales of mobile devices. This strategy exploits
a major differentiator of Validian compared to other cyber security solutions and
technologies, which is that the secure capabilities of Validian's technology can rapidly
develop large numbers of added application endpoints that can generate significant
additional revenues, and can reduce costs significantly, instead of just adding to costs,
while at the same time securing the gaps left exposed by cyber security solutions and
technologies.
Mr. Benn added, "The completion of ValidianProtect 3.1 for the rapid development of a
vast amount of secure mobile applications and secure web applications for mobile that
include advanced features, in our opinion has significantly increased the private
valuation of Validian's technology. We are very pleased and even intrigued with the vision,
efforts and progress of our channel partners in the exploitation of ValidianProtect 3.1
for their markets and customers. Q4 of this year onwards is shaping up to showcase some
long awaited announcements." Â

and advertisers to evaluate the full cross-media picture, even at a brand impact level.
Doing so requires not only the actual measurement of individual exposure to ads, but also
the attribution of these exposures across multiple devices and also different ecosystems.
These solutions are currently being used and optimized and will be incorporated into
GfK's existing portfolio, including GfK Experience Effects communication trackers, from
November 2015.
"This time last year I was presenting at conferences and telling clients that the big
issue in mobile advertising was that we couldn't evaluate ads properly - despite there
being so much data around - mainly because of privacy and technology challenges. We are
now able to bring cross-media clarity while fully adhering to privacy guidelines and laws,
" says Arno Hummerston, Global Director, Digital Market Intelligence at GfK. Â
GfK has also developed a multi-faceted approach with Facebook to bring a robust
evaluation of the effectiveness of advertisers' campaigns across all devices. Taking into
account the targeting and reach of Facebook campaigns, these new solutions allow total
campaign effectiveness measurement.
Hummerston continues: "By bringing together the PC browser ad exposure measurement
with mobile browser measurement and also the in-app ad measurement, GfK has closed the
cross-media digital loop. We have great coverage and scale through collaborators like
Facebook. Â We will continue to invest and evolve our digital ad solutions to help
marketers better understand their efforts in the digital space. In that way they can
deliver more integrated, better performing campaigns."

Sonos Introduces Trueplay Tuning Software and New Flagship PLAY:5 Smart Speaker
New innovations in hardware and software return music to the home, simply
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 29, 2015 /CNW/ -- Sonos(®), the leader in smart sound for the home, today ushers in the next great era of home audio innovation with the introduction of new speaker-tuning software called Trueplay(tm) and an all-new flagship SONOS PLAY:5(®) smart speaker. With Trueplay, millions of listeners can easily tune their existing Sonos speakers to optimize the sound no matter where the speaker is placed. The new SONOS PLAY:5, elegantly designed from the inside out, delivers the purest, deepest, most vibrant sound yet from Sonos. Both Trueplay and the new SONOS PLAY:5 will be available later this year.
Trueplay - Purer sound through smarter speakers
Trueplay stems from the insight that few homes are acoustically perfect. The placement of the speaker and the room it's in impacts the way it sounds. In the past, customizing speakers has required complex and expensive professional calibration. Now with Trueplay, anyone can tune speakers with the press of a button. The result? Music is liberated so that it sounds great in every room, in every home.
"Trueplay is a revolutionary system that gives music lovers confidence that they're hearing what their favorite artists labored to produce, independent of the room's acoustics and speaker location," said CEO John MacFarlane. "Finally there's a simple, reliable process that delivers studio-quality listening experiences in each room of the home."
Using the Sonos app, the microphone on an iPhone or iPad, and a special tone emitted by the Sonos speaker, the system analyzes how sound reflects off walls, furnishings, glass and other surfaces in any given room. Sonos then smartly tunes that speaker so the music sounds its very best.
"Our remit at Sonos has evolved from constantly working to improve the general sound of all of our speakers to customizing them: first by room, and in the future, by person, activity and content," said record producer, composer, and Sonos Sound Experience Leader Giles Martin. "We are obsessed with improving the home music experience, which must take into account acoustically unfriendly rooms. Tuning a room is the first of many software enhancements that make the experience richer and more personal for listeners whilst giving artists a whole new creative arena."
Initially, Trueplay will be available on all SONOS PLAY:1(®), SONOS PLAY:3(®), SONOS PLAY:5(®) products and iOS controllers, and will continue to be added to the Sonos lineup over time.
New SONOS PLAY:5 - the flagship smart speaker with more of everything you love about Sonos
The new SONOS PLAY:5 delivers a listening experience that is closer than ever to how every track was mastered in the studio. Built with six synchronized, custom-designed drivers, the speaker's three mid-woofers create smooth mids and deep, powerful lows, and three tweeters deliver crystal clear highs at any volume. The array produces a soundstage that is much wider than expected in a single speaker, creating room-filling sound with precise separation of vocals and instruments.
For the first time, SONOS PLAY:5 has three orientations. This flexibility, combined with Trueplay tuning, enables best-in-class sound for any placement, in any room. In addition to horizontal orientation as a standalone speaker, two SONOS PLAY:5s paired together vertically deliver top-of-the-line stereo sound with a focused and intense sweet spot. Paired horizontally, they create a larger stereo image for an immersive, room-filling listening experience.
The new SONOS PLAY:5 incorporates an innovative design that allows for the most effective wireless performance, without compromises, to ensure the music remains in perfect sync without dropouts.
Designed to fit the home now and for years to come, the aesthetic of the new SONOS PLAY:5 carves away complexity to focus on the simple essence of a speaker. Functionally, every detail matters, down to the placement of the nearly 60,000 individually drilled holes in the grill and the carefully selected material for each and every part. The new touch controls offer an intuitive, easy way to play, pause, adjust volume and change the track. Smart sensors make these touch controls responsive to all orientations, so the volume-up is always facing up.
Just like its predecessor, the new SONOS PLAY:5 works seamlessly with all Sonos smart speakers and adds even greater modularity with the ability to act as rear speakers in home theater setups with SONOS PLAYBAR(®) and SONOS SUB(tm). Control every room in your home with one easy-to-use app that brings together your favorite music services such as Pandora, Spotify, TIDAL, Google Play Music, and Groove.
Available in a custom matte black and matte white finish, the all-new SONOS PLAY:5 will retail for $499 USD, $549 CAD, $749 AUS, EUR579 and £429.

Wearable Device Makers to Enjoy Higher Performance and Faster Time to Market Thanks to Hillcrest Labs
- "MotionEngine(TM) Wear" provides high performance and low power activity tracking, sleep monitoring, context awareness, gesture control, and navigation -
- Provides manufacturers greater choice and control over sensors, microcontrollers and operating systems to lower costs and speed time to market -
ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's device manufacturers must piece together disparate, component-level software to create sensor-based wearable devices - often at the expense of accuracy and power consumption. Manufacturers of wearable devices are looking for cost-effective, turnkey solutions that function as a system to provide faster time to market, increased functionality, superior performance, and supply-chain flexibility. In response, Hillcrest Labs today unveiled its MotionEngine(TM) Wear software with always-on, sensor-enabled features optimized for the latest generation of wearable devices.
According to industry research firm IDC, the worldwide wearables market will reach a total of 76.1 million units in 2015, up 163.6% from 2014, and 173.4 million units by 2019, resulting in a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.9%(1). Hillcrest's MotionEngine Wear offers device makers the ability to quickly create differentiated wearable products across the health, fitness, and lifestyle segments of this growing market. MotionEngine Wear is ideal for smartwatches, activity and fitness bands, health and sleep monitors, and smart clothing. The small software footprint and low power profile make it ideal for devices targeted to the mass market, active or sports segment, commercial and industrial markets, or for fashion accessories.
"Sensors play a key role in wearable devices but how these sensors are used to deliver a compelling and convenient user experience is even more critical to the success of a wearable product today," said Chad Lucien, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Hillcrest Labs. "We are proud to offer our MotionEngine Wear software to manage and enhance the performance of sensors found in wearable devices - enabling high performance, low power motion-based applications, and providing the foundation for new user experiences."
MotionEngine Wear provides high quality context awareness, effortlessly tracks users' daily activities such as walking, running, and sleeping, and simplifies the user experience with intuitive gesture controls. Unique power reduction algorithms provide always-on sensing without compromising the accuracy, reliability or functionality of a wearable device. Most notably, MotionEngine Wear is compatible with today's widely used system architectures, including ARM Cortex-M, Cadence Tensilica Fusion DSP, and Synopsys ARC EM. It is OS independent so can be deployed when using platforms with Android, Android Wear, Tizen, WebOS, an RTOS, or others. Furthermore, it supports sensors from the leading suppliers to ensure lower costs, flexible implementations and faster time to market.
Lucien continued: "With MotionEngine Wear, manufacturers are not locked into any one component supplier or system architecture. MotionEngine Wear therefore provides manufacturers with a highly flexible solution that enables faster time to market, product line diversity and lower costs.
"Wearable devices are rapidly becoming more sophisticated, moving beyond simple health and fitness tracking devices to support a myriad of advanced features, from sleep monitoring to gesture recognition," said Ramon Llamas, Research Manager with IDC's Wearables Program. "For the next generation of wearable devices, manufacturers need simple, cost-effective solutions to meet consumers' expectations for a consistent and accurate user experience. Solutions like Hillcrest's MotionEngine Wear, that are compatible with a variety of low power MCUs and support sensors from leading suppliers, offer manufacturers maximum flexibility to innovate as new technologies are introduced in the wearables market."
Uses and Applications in Wearable Devices
Many uses and applications exist today for wearable devices, including Health and Fitness, Lifestyle, Augmented and Virtual Reality, and Motion Capture. These categories of devices each have distinct feature requirements but share in the need to maintain low costs, minimize power consumption, and extract maximum performance out of the available sensors. Hillcrest has developed a portfolio of products to address these needs. MotionEngine Wear offers the foundation for a variety of wearable device applications, including:
-- Accurate Activity Tracking: Algorithms specifically tuned for wearable
devices can automatically track a variety of users' daily physical
activities such as walking and running steps taken and stairs climbed to
provide an assessment of exercise program effectiveness.
-- Advanced Sleep Monitoring: The proprietary sleep-state algorithm uses a
low power method to capture motion data related to users' sleep quality
and present results.
-- Context Awareness: Automatic detection of when the user is in a vehicle,
such as a car, or if the user is riding a bicycle to allow the user
interface to adapt to different modes of use.
-- Precise Compass Heading and Orientation: Hillcrest's industry-leading
calibration and sensor fusion algorithms ensure precise, drift- and
jitter-free device orientation and compass heading to provide the
foundation for navigation applications.
-- Intuitive Gesture Controls: Users can perform motion gestures to
interact naturally with devices, such as the "glance" gesture which is
used to detect when a user looks at the front-facing screen.
The new MotionEngine Wear product rounds out Hillcrest's wearable product portfolio, complementing its BNO070 device. The BNO070 is a 9-axis System in Package (SiP) that enables rapid development of sensor-enabled wearable technology and IoT devices. Developed in partnership with Bosch Sensortec, it features Hillcrest's proprietary SH-1(TM) sensor hub software and high-performance accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope sensors with a low-power 32-bit ARM Cortex M0+ MCU in a small package. It is uniquely suited for wearable virtual reality, augmented reality and motion capture applications across the consumer, commercial and industrial markets.
Hillcrest's MotionEngine Wear and BNO070 products are used today to power a number of exciting wearable devices, including the ALCATEL ONETOUCH's WATCH, the OSVR (Open-Source Virtual Reality) from Razer(TM), and others. Hillcrest expects to announce additional customers and partners using these products in the coming months.

New App Gives Activists and Journalists a One-Stop-Shop For Security In Their Pocket
LONDON, September 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
A mobile phone app that provides human rights activists, humanitarians and journalists
with all the latest tools and advice on how to operate securely was launched on Monday.
The app, Umbrella, was developed by London-based organisation, Security First, as part of
mounting efforts to make it easier for activists to work safely.
This new app provides practical advice for everything from how to make a secure phone
call or protect files, to spotting surveillance or what to do if you're arrested. Lessons
give simple step-by-step actions of what to do in any given security situation and show
the best tools to do it with. Easy-to-use checklists can help mark your progress, and a
dashboard also allows you to keep up to date with the current risks in your area. "We
wanted to build a simple, easily-accessible tool that brought together digital and
physical security, and helped human rights activists implement it in a really
user-friendly way," said Rory Byrne, CEO of Security First, "We're basically building the
tool we wish we had ourselves."
One Iranian journalist and trainer who must remain anonymous for security reasons said,
"Umbrella is very useful for my work. It really helps me as an individual and a trainer.
It keeps me to up to date on the go. It also keeps me updated with the newest tools, which
is hard to do with my busy job. Based on my own experience it can help my students
effectively learn how to protect themselves - from whatever may threaten them."
The sad truth is that human rights activists are more at risk than ever. The past few
years have been some of the worst in recorded history for their harassment and human
rights groups are now facing a global crackdown not seen in a generation. If humanitarians
are to be able to continue providing aid in Sudan, or journalists are to be able to
continue exposing political violence in Zimbabwe, they must first and foremost be able to
work safely.
Yet security is hard. Bahraini human rights lawyer, Mohamed al-Tajer, who was
imprisoned and beaten by security forces during the Bahraini Uprising, said, "It's hard to
know what tools to use, it's hard to use a lot of those tools, and it's hard to know what
to do about physical security."
Umbrella's aim is to greatly simplify the way in which activists approach security
issues and, in doing so, allow them to retain complete focus on the human rights
challenges at hand.
"Managing the safety of staff and collaborators in insecure environments, across
multiple locations and facing an array of threats can be challenging," said Matt Timblin,
who is Director of Security at Human Rights Watch. "The prospect of an easily accessible
'one stop shop' app, such as Umbrella, that allows quick access to security advice is an
exciting and innovative development in helping improve the security of those working as
human rights activists, humanitarians and journalists around the world."
Umbrella is free and currently available for Android only. To download the Beta
version visit the Google store now.

ASTI Launches novo - Automatic Volume Control for Smartphones
Personal Audio Accessory Adjusts Headphone Volume Based on Ambient Noise to Create Optimal Listening Experience
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Adaptive Sound Technologies, Inc. (ASTI) today launched novo(TM), the world's first wearable personal audio device that adjusts your volume up or down based on ambient noise.
novo uses patented Adaptive Audio Technology(TM) to automatically monitor and adjust headphone volume based on your surroundings and adapts your audio in real time by either boosting or reducing the volume to provide you with a seamless listening experience.
-- "Boost Mode" automatically increases headphone volume to drown out the
sounds around you, and then decrease volume when the noise around you
subsides. For instance, when listening to audio on your headphones in
environments such as crowded streets or on public transportation.
-- "Reduce Mode" reduces audio volume automatically if an outside noise
needs attention, such as a coworker approaching to speak with you or
riding your bike in traffic.
"We created novo to give you the ultimate listening experience," said Sam Nicolino, President and Chief Executive Officer of ASTI. Actiontec Brings Gigabit Speeds to the Home Theater with New Ethernet-to-Coax MoCA 2.0 Adapters
New ECB6000 and ECB6200 MoCA 2.0 adapters can reach up to Gigabit speeds over coax to offer an unparalleled IP video and gaming experience in the home
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics announced the availability of new MoCA 2.0 network adapters, designed to relieve the growing pressure on home Wi-Fi networks and deliver the best possible experience for HD video, online gaming and streaming media services.
The new MoCA 2.0 adapters, the ECB6000 and ECB6200, are coax to Ethernet bridges that offer a high-speed wired connection point for an HDTV, set top box, gaming console or other fixed Ethernet-enabled device. They provide an instant performance boost in the home theater to supplement the home's existing Wi-Fi network with high-speed wired connection points.
The ECB6200 supports the latest bonded MoCA 2.0 standard to support speeds over 1 Gbps. The ECB6000 supports MoCA 2.0 for speeds up to 670 Mbps. Actual speeds depend on the condition and noise found on the home's coaxial cabling.
The adapters give service providers and homeowners superior options for streaming HD-quality video to the HDTV in the home theater. With the rise of OTT services like Netflix, HBO Go OTT, and Amazon Prime, there's more pressure than ever before on the home Wi-Fi network. By leveraging MoCA technology and the home's existing coax infrastructure, the adapters bring wired Gigabit speeds without having to wire the home for Gigabit Ethernet.
"Home networking is rapidly evolving to the point where Gigabit speeds are needed and expected inside the home. Wi-Fi technology is capable of delivering these speeds, but as the number of connected devices and HD streaming increases, it's putting enormous pressure on the home Wi-Fi network," said Brian Henrichs, chief business development officer at Actiontec Electronics.
"Adding a wired connection to the home theater ensures you will always get the best performance for your gaming console or HDTV. And by offloading that traffic from the home Wi-Fi, it ensures a better overall experience for your other devices," he added.
Actiontec's adapters automatically detect and join a service provider's MoCA network, requiring minimal user intervention. Most do-it-yourself consumers can complete the installation in less than 5 minutes.

Tektronix Implements Ultra-Wide Bandwidth 5G Backhaul Signal Analysis in DPO70000SX Oscilloscopes
Addition of SignalVu Software Delivers Unprecedented Margins of Error Even on Wide Bandwidth Signals Including 5G, Cellular Backhaul and Radar
BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, today announced the implementation of SignalVu software on its family of DPO70000SX ATI Performance Oscilloscopes. This will allow researchers and others engaged in developing next generation wide- and ultra-wide bandwidth technologies such as 5G, cellular backhaul and radar to perform RF modulation measurements with unprecedented margins of error.
The DPO70000SX 70 GHz ATI oscilloscopes feature the lowest-noise and highest effective bits of any ultra-high bandwidth real-time oscilloscope available on the market. SignalVu takes full advantage of this signal fidelity to deliver the industry's most accurate EVM measurements and other signal analysis such as chirp rates on chirped radar systems up to 70 GHz.
The demand for more data throughput continues to expand, driven by the growing legions of smartphone users and emerging application such as Internet of Things (IoT). This is leading the industry to accelerate development of 5G networks and to explore unused frequency bands like the V band to transport large amounts of data. Unfortunately, current test solutions for wide bandwidth applications have required complex setups involving multiple pieces of equipment that must be calibrated frequently. Moreover, these solutions introduce linearity issues that lack the flatness in response provided by solutions based on a single oscilloscope.
"The integration of SignalVu software with the DPO70000SX platform is a very compelling solution for customers who need to demodulate and analyze signals with extremely wide bandwidth up to 70 GHz," said Jim McGillivary, general manager RF and Component Solutions, Tektronix. "For RF applications, we're essentially delivering the widest bandwidth signal analyzer on the market with great signal fidelity and comprehensive analysis capabilities, including modulation and pulse analysis along with support for advanced commercial wireless standards such as 802.11ac and LTE. What's more, it not only can be used as spectrum analyzer, but is also an oscilloscope."
The DPO70000SX series of oscilloscopes deliver the lowest-noise and highest fidelity of any ultra-high bandwidth real-time oscilloscope available on the market today. Tektronix' ATI oscilloscopes more accurately capture and measure higher frequency signals than possible with the legacy frequency interleaving approaches used by other oscilloscope manufacturers. Tektronix' unique ATI architecture uses a symmetrical technique that delivers all signal energy to both digitizing paths resulting in an inherent noise advantage when signals are reconstructed.
SignalVu vector signal analysis software is based on the signal analysis engine of the Tektronix RSA5000 and RSA6000 Series real-time spectrum analyzers. When used with Tektronix high-performance oscilloscopes such as the DPO70000SX, it allows researchers and designers to evaluate complex signals without an external down converter. This solution delivers the functionality of a vector signal analyzer, a spectrum analyzer, and the powerful trigger capabilities of a digital oscilloscope -- all in a single package.
