(NASDAQ: OVTI), a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today announced the OV2281, a new PureCel(®) sensor that brings enhanced biometric security functionality to mobile devices. The low-power, ultra-compact OV2281 leverages OmniVision's 1.12-micron pixel technology and optimized IR sensitivity. Its advanced capabilities can enable accurate and reliable iris recognition for smartphones, tablets and notebooks, in both landscape and portrait orientations.

The 1/7.5-inch OV2281 PureCel sensor can record 1080p high-definition video at 60 frames per second (FPS) in both portrait and landscape orientation, thus supporting iris detection in either situation. When recording full-resolution 1920 x 1920 video at 30 FPS, the sensor requires just 120 mW. It also supports an ultra-low power mode that can reduce power consumption to approximately 25 mW. As a monochrome sensor, the OV2281 boasts exceptional IR sensitivity. This sensitivity allows it to produce clear and fully stable images in difficult low-light conditions.
The sensor fits into a 5.5 x 5.5 mm module with a z-height of less than 4.5 mm. The OV2281 is currently in volume production.

Vindai announces super-battery technology that will allow mobile devices to be charged in 15 seconds or less
NEW YORK, Sept. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Good Vibrations Shoes, Inc. (OTCPink: GVSI) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Vindai Corporation, is developing a super-battery for its body cameras that is also applicable to any mobile device and will allow devices to be fully charged in 15 seconds, and stay charged on average for 24 hours!
One of the problems plaguing body cams today is the same problem we have with all mobile devices, short battery life, and long charge times, but Vindai's "Super-battery" could change it all. Although the company cannot disclose specific technical details of the technology, or what group or government agency it was developed in conjunction with, if any, the company does confirm that Vindai is the sole owner of the technology and several related patents are being worked on.
When released, Vindai's super-batteries should fit inside any mobile device just like the batteries used currently. However, the super-battery consists of different parts, including a micro-charging bank that uses super-capacitor technology and a high efficiency lithium-ion battery. When a super-battery equipped device is plugged into an electrical outlet, the power is sucked up at lightning speed, and stored in the super-capacitor charging bank, which then charges the inline battery that accompanies it. The device behaves as though it is plugged into an electrical outlet while in self-charge mode and then the normal battery is used once it is fully charged. This cycle can take place several times, so It's basically like taking an electrical outlet with you, inside your device. These technologies together can therefore not only shorten charge time dramatically, they have the same effect as tripling or quadrupling the average battery life.
Vindai feels this technology is a critical step to making body cameras a truly viable option for the detection and prevention of police abuses because for the cameras to work effectively, they must be turned on and recording at all times without officer intervention, and without the ability to be turned off. Therefore, the device must remain charged for 12 to 14 hours to last an entire shift. External battery packs can be used, but they add weight and wires, which can be pulled out in a struggle, making them ineffective at best. As Vindai's super-battery technology is tested and refined, the company is confident that it is very close to a finished product, and once released, Vindai's cameras could dominate the market, and have virtually no competition. In the bigger picture, it's very possible that one day every mobile device in the world will contain a Vindai Super battery, and frantically seeking out that electrical outlet to charge your phone will be a thing of the past.

Airbus Defence and Space Uses EOS Additive Manufacturing Process for the Optimized Production of Satellite Parts

The Airbus Defence and Space division, one of the world's leading suppliers of
satellite and space transport technology, relies on EOS, global technology and quality
leader for high-end Additive Manufacturing (AM) solutions, for the optimized production of
satellite parts.
Airbus Defence and Space's portfolio ranges from satellite systems to components for
the International Space Station ISS, where part requirements are particularly high because
of the tremendous temperature differences and external forces involved.
The current generation of satellites includes specific brackets that serve as a link
between the body of the satellite and the reflectors and feeder facilities mounted at its
upper end. Originally, the engineers faced two key challenges with regards to the design
of these retaining brackets: They must fix securely to the body, yet have to mitigate the
extreme temperature fluctuations in space and serve as a layer of insulation as
temperatures range from -180 to +150 degree(s)C. So the stress on the material is
extremely high and very few materials can meet these requirements. Titanium turned out to
be the appropriate material choice due to its weight and thermal conductivity as well as
an acceptable density. After all, every kilogram carried into space costs many thousand
dollars. Â
Brackets manufactured conventionally and especially their connection with the carbon
components of the satellite did not meet their expectations. Subsequent installation on
the satellite component was very time-consuming so costs needed to be reduced as well. As
such, the engineers began looking for alternatives with the aim of optimizing the design
of future components accordingly.
The company finally chose the Metal AM technology offered by EOS which also enabled
them to continue using titanium that was already a tried and tested material. Component
design as such could easily be adapted and production itself optimized. Today, Airbus
Defence and Space manufactures the part in a single step on an EOSINT M 280 Direct Metal
Laser Sintering System (DMLS) which meets all expectations. The temperature resistance of
the entire structure could be improved, which now can easily and permanently withstand a

But concentrate, or you might fall asleep, because that's exactly what it has been
designed to do.
The 120-second advert, created by the mindfulness app, Calm [http://www.calm.com ],
which recently surpassed 2.5 million downloads, is designed to be an antidote to
traditional TV advertising and is intended to help viewers relax and be less stressed. In
a world where we are bombarded by thousands of advertising messages everyday, it is hoped
this will be an unusual, but welcome break for viewers.
The two minute ad, which has been developed by creative agency Dancing Aardvarks

builds on the recent 'Slow TV' phenomenon and includes no voice over, or much action.
