New Fluke Connect® Assets makes preventive maintenance practices possible for all maintenance managers
Software and wireless test tools offer easy installation and setup while helping prevent equipment failure
EVERETT, Wash., Aug. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Unplanned downtime due to equipment failure can cost manufacturers up to three percent of their revenue, according the U.S. Federal Energy Management Program. Manual methods of tracking equipment health to predict failures are time consuming and prone to errors and incomplete data, while existing computerized maintenance management systems can be costly and complex and often require significant IT resources to implement.
Fluke Connect(®) Assets changes the way equipment maintenance is documented, reported, and managed.
Fluke Connect(®) Assets is a cloud-based wireless system of software and test tools that gives maintenance managers a comprehensive view of all critical equipment -- including baseline, historical, and current test tool measurement data, current status, and past inspection data -- enabling them to set up and sustain a preventive maintenance (PM) or condition-based maintenance (CBM) system easily with minimal investment.
It features the industry's only wireless one-step measurement transfer from more than 30 Fluke Connect wireless test tools, eliminating manual recording of measurements so maintenance managers can be more confident that the equipment history is accurate.
The system's features allow maintenance managers to analyze multiple types of predictive data (for example, electrical, vibration, infrared images) all in one program, side by side, in a visual format that enables easy scanning. In fact, it's the first software that allows you to compare multiple measurement types in one system, making it easy to see correlations and spot problems. This intuitive display of multiple measurements enhances the productive use of data and the ability to identify a problem, since each measurement type tests a different aspect of equipment health and together they present a more complete picture.
Key features of Fluke Connect Assets include:
-- Asset Health dashboard - is a hierarchy based overview of the status of
all assets over time, with drill-downs to the individual asset record
for more details. This permits managers to identify anomalies or
correlations across equipment.
-- Asset Analysis - is a record for each piece of equipment that is the
single source for all of its maintenance information. Managers and
technicians can trend and compare thermal, electrical and vibration data
over time for each piece of equipment in order to make optimal repair
and replacement decisions.
-- Asset Status dashboard - allows managers to quickly scan the most recent
status updates for key assets so they can better monitor team and
equipment activity.
Entire maintenance teams can capture and share data via their smartphones regardless of their location using AutoRecord(TM) measurements to automatically record measurements from Fluke Connect wireless test tools, upload the data to Fluke Cloud(TM) storage and then assign it to a specific asset for sharing and analysis. Technicians can collaborate with their colleagues to discuss problems while sharing data and images in real time with ShareLive(TM) video calls, speeding up problem solving, decision-making and approvals.
With the Fluke Connect Assets system, maintenance managers and technicians generate more reliable data to make informed decisions about equipment health, reducing unexpected equipment downtime, improving costs, and enhancing the efficiency of their teams.

Maxwell Technologies' ultracapacitor-powered ESM available on Peterbilt Models 579, 567
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL), a leading developer and manufacturer of ultracapacitor-based energy storage products, announced today that Peterbilt Motors Company, a leading designer and manufacturer of premium trucks, is now offering Maxwell's ultracapacitor-powered Engine Start Module (ESM) on new Model 579 and 567 trucks as a factory-installed option. Maxwell's ESM enables fleets to give their drivers the superior starting reliability they demand while increasing payload. The ultracapacitor replaces one traditional battery - reducing weight by up to 60 pounds - and is dedicated to starting the vehicle. This means power is always available to start the vehicle, reducing unplanned downtime.
Maxwell's field-proven ESM gives truck operators assurance their engines will start reliably, especially for operations with multiple starts and stops per day or that use the lift gate or other auxiliary battery-powered equipment while the truck is off. Additionally, the ultracapacitor is not affected by hotel loads - lights, HVAC, television and other in-cab or sleeper-powered devices - which can drain power during extended use.
"Superior uptime and reliability are two advantages our customers expect from Peterbilt, and this new technology is one way to help bring those to even greater levels," said Anthony Gansle, Peterbilt marketing manager of on-highway products. "Our aerodynamic Model 579 and vocational Model 567 equipped with the Maxwell ESM will provide customers with greater confidence that their vehicles will be ready to move when they need to move."
Dr. Franz Fink, CEO of Maxwell Technologies, said, "Expanding our Engine Start Module's availability in North America is an ongoing goal, and our relationship with Peterbilt is the next step in meeting the demands of our customers in the United States and Canada. Now more fleet owners and operators will be able to benefit from the reliable performance of the ESM in providing starting assurance for on-time deliveries and improved uptime."
Maxwell's ESM uses ultracapacitor technology to improve the performance of engine cranking, helping heavy-duty engines to reliably start in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to +149 degrees Fahrenheit with Maxwell's ESM installed. Atmel Introduces World's Most Innovative 2-pin, Self-Powered Serial EEPROM Targeting the IoT, Battery, Consumable and Cable Identification Markets
With a Novel Parasitic Power Scheme, New Single-Wire Family Requires Just One Data and One Ground Pin Eliminating the Need for Power Source/Vcc and Features Plug-and-Play 64-bit Serial Number for Identification
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel(®) Corporation (NASDAQ: ATML), a global leader in microcontroller (MCU) and touch solutions, today launched the industry's most innovative Single-Wire EEPROM with only two-pins--a data pin and ground pin for operation--making the new family ideal for the Internet of Things (IoT), wearables, consumable, battery and cable identification markets. The new devices are self-powered, eliminating the need for a power source or Vcc pin, with a parasitic power scheme over the data pin. These devices provide best-in-class ultra-low power standby of 700nA, 200uA for write current, and 80uA for read current at 25 degrees Celsius--delivering just one-third of the power of leading competitors.
With confined spacing in smaller IoT, wearables, battery and cable identification applications, Atmel's AT21CS01/11 devices eliminate the need for external capacitors and rectifiers with its parasitic power scheme over a single data pin. Additionally, the new devices have an ultra-high write endurance capability to allow more than one million cycles for each memory location to meet the requirements for today's high-write endurance applications.
The AT21CS01/11 products include a simple product identification with a plug-and-play 64-bit unique serial number in every device, making the device ideal for smart, connected devices in today's IoT world including wearables such as smart fitness bands and healthcare devices. The devices also deliver industry-leading electrostatic discharge (ESD) rating (IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD Compliant), so applications such as cables, consumables, etc. can tolerate exposure to the outside environment or direct human contact while still delivering flawless performance.
"With Atmel's legacy rooted in memory, we are excited to bring a new generation of innovative 'true 2-pin' serial EEPROMs that are parasitically powered," said Padam Singh, Director of Marketing, Memory Products, Atmel. "Our new Single-Wire EEPROM family makes it very convenient to add serial EEPROM using just one-pin from the MCU/MPU without the need to route the Vcc to the device, delivering significant board space savings while simplifying the layout. In addition, the plug-and-play 64-bit serial number is the easiest way to add identification to various accessories and consumables. We look forward to proliferating these products to next-generation applications and delivering more value-added solutions and industry-firsts."
The new devices follow the I(2)C protocol, allowing for an easy migration from existing EEPROM with less overhead and capability to connect up to eight devices on the same bus. The AT21CS01 devices offer a security register with a 64-bit factory programmed serial number and an extra 16-bytes of user programmable and permanently lockable storage, delivering a guaranteed unique serial number for inventory tracking, asset tagging and can permanently protect the data if needed.
There are two variants of the device available to support different voltage requirements. Atmel's AT21CS01 is targeted for low-voltage applications operating at 1.7V- 3.6V. For applications that require higher voltage ranges such as Li-Ion/polymer batteries, the AT21CS11 will support 2.7V- 4.5V operating range and is the ideal product to meet IEEE1725 specifications for electronic identification of battery packs.
Availability and Pricing
The Atmel AT21CS01 devices are available now in production quantities in 3-lead SOT23, 8-lead SOIC and 4-ball WLCSP. Pricing starts at USD $0.32 in 5,000-piece quantities. The AT21CS11 will be available in Q4, 2015.

Although 4K TV is already commonplace among the consumer market, replicating the same resolution onto a mere 6-inch panel, a huge PPI hike up to 734, presented a formidable, hundred-fold scale challenge in terms of both design and process. The successful turning-on of the 6-inch 4K AMOLED panel has opened up wider possibilities for newer applications, such as virtual reality (VR), and today the sample achieved yet another milestone in demonstrating its capability and commitment in the field.
Whether smartphone display demands super high resolution remains to be seen, but a host of new applications would definitely use much more pixel packed displays. "Visually a person immerses himself into a faux real surrounding by means of VR devices. To do so, it requires exponentially higher PPI in display, far beyond what current market offers. Using today's UHD (4K) display turn-on as a launch pad, EDO is determined to enter the VR market." says Dr. David Chu, EDO's CEO.
VR has been recognized as a new application with great potential, with leading products from Korea, Japan and the US all featuring AMOLED displays. More than perfect color, AMOLED displays offer low latency, real darkness with superb contrast ratio and minimal hazardous high-energy blue ray. All these hit the bullseye of desirable features by VR devices. As the VR market grows, so should AMOLED.
EDO was built from day one to focus on AMOLED display in small and medium size applications. As a new player, EDO has been consistently raising the bar not only to challenge itself, but also quickly catch up on the industry, first with HD resolution from last March to FHD, then WQHD (2.5K) and UHD (4K) today, all done in less than 18 months. With its 6-inch 4K display, EDO has projected itself to the forefront of first tier in the industry.
EDO spares no effort when it comes to working on AMOLED leading edge technology development and strives to bring excellent products to enable new applications and enhance old ones.
About EDO
EverDisplay Optronics was established in 2012 in Shanghai as a new player pioneering AMOLED manufacturing technology in the Greater China region. The company has since grown remarkably from merely a plot of barren farmland on the outskirts of Shanghai to achieve full production capacity within the space of two years.

The First "Intel Inside" Desktop 3D Printer - the "mostfun Pro" - to Crowdfund on Kickstarter
CHENGDU, China, Aug. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The "mostfun Pro", the world's first "Intel Inside" desktop 3D printer and the result of a joint collaboration between Chengdu mostfun S&T Co,. Ltd and Intel, will seek crowdfunding on Kickstarter, the world's leading crowdfunding platform, starting from August 11.
A few backers had a try at some high priced 3D printing technologies on Kickstarter in 2012 and 2013, and these initial efforts were followed by hundreds of thousands of backers who took home low-cost 3D printers via Kickstarter during the following two years. However, the backers were not satisfied with the user experience and their comments on Kickstarter demonstrated that they expected improvements especially in terms of ease of use, stability and after-sale service.
After a comprehensive review of 3D printing projects featuring FDM, SLA and DLP printing technologies, three technologies which successfully completed crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter and raised funds ranging from US$200,000 to US$3,000,000 based on units priced from US$2,500 to as low as $199, we came to the conclusion that 3D printers are evolving from being technology-driven to being product-driven. In addition to low price and originality in design, overall product quality became a priority for backers.
mostfun CEO Lvzhou Chen said: "A good 3D printer should be reliable and easy to use. It should require no manual to go through to get it started and should always deliver steady performance over the long term. This is exactly what we want to bring to you with the 'mostfun Pro'."
Ease of use as well as long term stability are the two features that have been specifically optimized in the mostfun Pro as a result of an analysis of the main drawbacks in a number of desktop 3D printers currently available on the market. On one hand, mostfun decided on the Intel Edison, which allows users to access the control panel by scanning a QR code on their mobile device as well as direct log-in via a browser, in addition to a number of convenient and intelligent functions such as power-off protection and built-in printer memory in a move to offer a "plug and print" experience. On the other hand, the unit features a brand new extruder, the BAU, which is compatible with a wide range of materials including PLA, ABS, TPU, WAX and HIPS. The extruder has built-in auto-calibration to offer stable and high-precision output. Last but not the least, "mostfun Pro", with Intel Inside's reliability and technology guarantee, is priced very attractively on Kickstarter.
Each product is an exercise in the evolution from raw technology to product maturity and user friendliness. Backers will gain a new and rewarding experience from the maturity of "mostfun Pro" 3D's technology and the stability delivered by Intel Inside.
