MyRadar Marches Toward TV 3.0 with Meteorologist Insights, Apple Watch App, Wind Animations and Increased Capacity

Watson to Gain Ability to "See" with Planned $1B Acquisition of Merge Healthcare

ARMONK, N.Y. and CHICAGO, Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Watson will gain the ability to "see" by bringing together Watson's advanced image analytics and cognitive capabilities with data and images obtained from Merge Healthcare Incorporated's (NASDAQ: MRGE) medical imaging management platform. IBM plans to acquire Merge, a leading provider of medical image handling and processing, interoperability and clinical systems designed to advance healthcare quality and efficiency, in an effort to unlock the value of medical images to help physicians make better patient care decisions.
Merge's technology platforms are used at more than 7,500 U.S. healthcare sites, as well as most of the world's leading clinical research institutes and pharmaceutical firms to manage a growing body of medical images. The vision is that these organizations could use the Watson Health Cloud to surface new insights from a consolidated, patient-centric view of current and historical images, electronic health records, data from wearable devices and other related medical data, in a HIPAA-enabled environment.
Under terms of the transaction, Merge shareholders would receive $7.13 per share in cash, for a total transaction value of $1 billion. The closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory review, Merge shareholder approval, and other customary closing conditions, and is anticipated to occur later this year. Teaching Watson to "See" Medical Images
The planned acquisition bolsters IBM's strategy to add rich image analytics with deep learning to the Watson Health platform - in effect, advancing Watson beyond natural language and giving it the ability to "see." Medical images are by far the largest and fastest-growing data source in the healthcare industry and perhaps the world - IBM researchers estimate that they account for at least 90% of all medical data today - but they also present challenges that need to be addressed:
-- The volume of medical images can be overwhelming to even the most
sophisticated specialists - radiologists in some hospital emergency
rooms are presented with as many as 100,000 images a day(1).
-- Tools to help clinicians extract insights from medical images remain

Toshiba Launches 16MP CMOS Image Sensors Targeting Smartphones And Tablets
New low-power sensors feature PDAF technology, supports 30fps output at 4K resolution
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today launched its first 16-megapixel (MP) CMOS image sensors: T4KC3 and T4KC3-121, which includes phase detection auto-focus (PDAF). Designed for use in smartphones and tablets, the backside-illuminated (BSI) chips are among the world's smallest class of CMOS image sensors([1]), and achieve both high-performance image capture and low power consumption.
The functional range of the new sensors supports users in capturing beautiful images and movies. The T4KC3-121 is the first Toshiba sensor to feature PDAF technology, which makes it easier for mobile devices to capture both still and moving objects. This approach to AF technology, also used in single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras, takes an incoming image and splits it between two pixels, allowing the camera to figure out exactly how out-of-focus a subject is, and then immediately hone in and track movement.
"Mobile device manufacturers are constantly striving to design and build the most powerful, power-efficient devices in the smallest possible form factors," said Andrew Burt, vice president of the Image Sensor Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. "To support this objective, both new 16MP CMOS sensors are housed in a small module (both area and height) and use Toshiba's new low-power circuit design method to lengthen battery life when the smartphone or tablet is being used in video mode."
Image brightness in both new sensors is boosted by up to 4x by Toshiba's Bright Mode technology, which enables HD video capture at 240fps equivalent. They also support high dynamic range (HDR) to capture natural images of scenes with a high contrast ratio, ending the problem of over- and underexposed images.
The T4KC3 and T4KC3-121 achieve output speeds of up to 30fps at full 16MP-resolution (4624 x 3472pixels) with power consumption figures of just 240mW or lower. Full-HD outputs of 1920 x 1080 pixels are supported at frame rates of up to 60fps, and HD outputs (1280 x 720 pixels) are supported at 120fps in normal mode and 240fps in Bright Mode.
The new sensors have an optical size of 1/2.78 inch and pixel pitch of 1.12 micrometer BSI. Additionally, they incorporate16Kbit one time programmable memory that can store lens shading correction data for four conditions at maximum, such as indoors and outdoors, daylight and sunset. Settings can be switched by one simple command.

Samples of the T4KC3 CMOS image sensor are available now, and sample shipments of the T4KC3-121 will start in mid-August. Mass production of both is set to begin in December.

Designed specifically for first-time pilots, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard brings DJI's signature attention to stability, flight, and imaging to make capturing aerial images easier than ever before.

With a newly designed and integrated camera, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard records up to 2.7k HD video, double the resolution of standard 1080p HD video, at 30 frames per second using a high-quality 94-degree distortion-free lens. The camera also shoots still images at 12 megapixels in both DNG Raw and JPG formats. Using a standard WiFi connection, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard allows pilots to see what their camera sees in near real time in HD, capture photos, start / stop record for video and adjust camera settings all from the updated DJI Go app.
The remote controller is an updated version of DJI's previous Phantom 2 Vision+ controller, with an integrated WiFi range extender and wheel to angle the camera.
Based on the Phantom 3 design, the new DJI Phantom 3 Standard includes GPS-based stabilization and flight times up to 25 minutes using DJI's interchangeable Intelligent Flight Batteries for the Phantom 3 series.
The DJI Phantom 3 Standard will be compatible with intelligent flight features including Follow Me, Waypoint Navigation and Point of Interest flight planning.
- Follow Me - The drone intelligently follows the user based on their orientation.
- Waypoint Navigation - Allows users to set a multi-point route that the Phantom 3 flies automatically while leaving camera control (pan and tilt) to the user. Users simply have to pull back on their controller and the Phantom will retrace its path to the beginning.
- Point of Interest - Lets users define an object that the Phantom will fly around in a circle with the object framed perfectly in the center - capturing a cinematic shot that is otherwise difficult to fly manually.
These intelligent features, originally released for DJI's professional products, will be available through a firmware upgrade for the rest of the DJI Phantom 3 series in coming weeks. They are also available through SDK apps already developed by third party DJI developers.

DALLAS, Aug. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on high levels of demand, Compass Datacenters has expanded its portfolio of sites that are available for customers with the purchase rights for land in the Atlanta metro area, the Dallas metro area and suburban Columbus. The land parcels in Lithia Springs, Georgia (Metro Atlanta) and Richardson, Texas (Metro Dallas) will be Compass' first data center campuses in these two fast-growing data center markets. The land parcel in New Albany, Ohio (suburban Columbus) is an expansion of Compass' presence in that market, which has proven to have strong demand for Compass' products. Compass Datacenter now controls these sites and has completed key functions that enable customers to dramatically accelerate their dedicated data center builds, including entitling, permitting, site planning, infrastructure design and facility design.

robust power infrastructure fed by three power substations in the area,
multiple power feeds onto the land and redundancy built into the power
grid.
-- Richardson, Texas - This 10.2 acre parcel of land in the heart of
suburban Dallas' Telecom Corridor can accommodate two (2) Compass 1.2 MW
data centers in the master plan created by Compass and pre-permitted by
the city and county. The site has a robust, high-reliability power
infrastructure and excellent fiber capabilities.
-- New Albany, Ohio - This 9.5 acre parcel of land in the New Albany
Business Park in suburban Columbus is just north of the data center
Compass recently completed for American Electric Power (AEP). The site
can accommodate two (2) Compass 1.2 MW data centers and is in a proven
location for data center facilities that includes IT operations for
multiple enterprises. The pre-permitted and master-planned site has
robust power with redundancy built into the power grid with dual feeds
in a looped system.
