New film for the latest Amazing in Motion campaign shows final testing in BarcelonaÂ
Following the unveiling of the Lexus Hoverboard in June, the luxury automotive company
is completing a full and final reveal of the project concluding a successful testing phase
which took place in Cubelles, Barcelona.

Mark Templin, Executive Vice President at Lexus International said: "Embarking on this
project, we set out to push the boundaries of technology, design and innovation to make
the impossible possible. With this project we call 'SLIDE', we collaborated with partners
who share our passion for creating enjoyment out of motion. Even through combining our
technology and expertise, we discovered making a hoverboard isn't an easy process. We've
experienced the highs and lows and have overcome a few challenges, but through mutual
determination we have created a demonstration of our philosophy in design and technology
to create Amazing in Motion."
The Lexus Hoverboard project began 18 months ago through a collaboration with a team
of scientists from IFW Dresden and evico GmbH, who specialize in magnetic levitation
technology. Following extensive testing with pro skateboarder and hoverboard test rider
Ross McGouran, in Dresden, Germany, the team were determined to push the hoverboard to its
limits and conduct further tests within dynamic surroundings. Â
"I've spent 20 years skateboarding, but without friction it feels like I've had to
learn a whole new skill, particularly in the stance and balance in order to ride the
hoverboard. It's a whole new experience," said pro skateboarder and hoverboard test rider
Ross McGouran.
Since the Lexus Hoverboard was unveiled in June, testing has been carried out in a
specially constructed hoverpark, combining elements from skate culture with technology
within its architecture. Up to 200 meters of magnetic track was transported to Barcelona
from the Dresden facility to lay beneath the hoverpark surface in order to create the
dynamic test, offering Lexus the opportunity to demonstrate tricks no skateboard could
ever perform, like travelling across water. Lexus has captured the final ride footage and
released it as a film led by award winning director Henry-Alex Rubin.
The Lexus Hoverboard technology features two "cryostats"-reservoirs in which
superconducting material is kept at -197 degrees through immersion in liquid nitrogen. The
board is then placed above a track that contains permanent magnets. Dr. Oliver de Haas,
evico CEO, said: "The magnetic field from the track is effectively 'frozen' into the
superconductors in the board, maintaining the distance between the board and the
track-essentially keeping the board hovering. This force is strong enough to allow the
rider to stand and even jump on the board."
The Lexus Hoverboard film called "SLIDE" features the high performance GS F and is
part of the fourth project in the Lexus "Amazing in Motion" campaign series that showcases
creativity and innovation from the Lexus brand.

Epson Transforms Printer Category with EcoTank - Loaded and Ready to Print for Up to Two Years without an Ink Refill
New "Supertank" Category of Printers Features Large Ink Reservoirs Setting New Standards of Convenience and Value for Colour Printing
MARKHAM, ON, Aug. 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Epson is transforming the $40 billion North American printing market(1), addressing one of the biggest pain points for small businesses and consumers: running out of ink. Under its new EcoTank(TM) brand, Epson today unveiled five new all-in-one colour printers featuring large ink reservoirs - what Epson defines as the Supertank category - that come loaded and ready for up to two years of prints without replacing the ink(2).
EcoTank colour printers combine the high-quality printers Epson is known for with dramatic in-box cost savings and ultralow ink replacement costs. In addition, EcoTank printers eliminate the common frustration of running out of ink at inevitably the most inopportune time. Less ink refills also means less waste. When comparing EcoTank to a traditional printer, the ink included with the EcoTank is equivalent to about 20 sets of ink cartridges(3) or more, depending on the model.
"The introduction of EcoTank marks a fundamental shift in the way we think about using colour in business and in the home," said Keith Kratzberg, Executive Vice President, Epson America. "Epson(®) EcoTank sets a new standard for colour printing, convenience and value. We believe that our new EcoTank printers are well-positioned to take a large bite out of the small business printer market."
Unleashing Colour Printing
About 90 percent of the pages printed in North America are printed in black-and-white, not colour(4). Two-thirds of those pages could be in colour. Previously, a major barrier to colour printing has been the cost of ink replacements. EcoTank printers are loaded and ready with up to two years of ink(2) - and when replacement ink is needed, the cost will be as low as $15.49 per bottle, or $62 per set of bottles. For example, a standard home printer requires approximately 20 sets of cartridges to print the same number of pages included with the equivalent EcoTank printer(3).
"Epson's EcoTank launch represents a sea change in today's printer market," said Barbara Richards, senior consultant, InfoTrends. "Establishing a new printer category - Supertank - Epson is positioning itself for significant market expansion. The appeal of low-cost, hassle-free colour printing in business and in the home has potential to capture a significant share of the market."
EcoTank printers are part of the Supertank category, and combine the latest in advanced MicroPiezo(®) printhead technology with a large ink reservoir to create an entirely new printing system. EcoTank is available in five models for the home and small-to-medium business, offer a two-year limited warranty with registration(5), have built-in wireless for easy printing from tablets and smartphones(6) across a range of operating systems, as well as through Epson Connect(TM) solutions.
"Best Buy is proud to carry Epson's new SuperTank printers that offer consumers a new alternative to traditional printing," said Sherry Zah, Director of Merchandising, Best Buy Canada. "This innovation is offering our customers the opportunity to maximize their printer use and minimize time spent replacing ink. This is a winning scenario for anyone who relies on a printer.
"We're excited to be debuting a new technology category," said Pete Gibel, SVP Merchandising, Staples Canada. "Epson's EcoTank printers are giving consumers what they have been asking for: a hassle-free colour printing option. These new printers for business and consumers have tremendous potential."

Real Agent Guard Unveils New Personal Security System, Signs First Realtor Association
Service available via easy-to-use mobile applications for real estate agents, their employers, and their family and friends
ROGERS, Ark., Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Real Agent Guard, an innovative mobile-enabled personal security service for real estate agents and brokers, is now available for download in all app stores. Starting at $3.99 per month, real estate firms can provide their agents with a way to feel secure when showing properties by themselves. The security solution has an array of tools, such as video monitoring, real-time geo-location tracking, failsafe PIN codes and more.
Video monitoring tools make it easy for agents to stay safe during an open house event and protect the homeowner's property. In the event of an emergency, Real Agent Guard broadcasts real-time geo-location of the agent to the monitoring team and also shares this with authorities, if needed.
The Northwest Arkansas Board of Realtors is the first Realtor association in the country to adopt and pay for the security app for all 1,800 members. The Board felt it was a needed benefit in light of last year's senseless murder of an Arkansas real estate agent while showing a house.
Real Agent Guard founders Justyn Hornor, a former Army sergeant, and Tim Brasuell, a police officer for 13 years, developed the security platform in response to agent Beverly Carter's tragic murder. Both founders wanted to build a powerful, yet affordable, security solution that acted as a safety net for agents.
"Our app is far less expensive than competing platforms on the market," Hornor says. "That was extremely important to us because we felt agents deserved a security service that was affordable for not only them, but also their friends and family who want to monitor their whereabouts and safety."
The Real Agent Guard app is the only one of its kind on the market to offer an enterprise-facing suite of safety tools, as well as a way for friends and family to monitor agents. Agents can arm a security system on their app with one click and upload photos of clients, license plates, a driver's license, or anything else. If they miss a check-in time or trigger an alert, their agency team and friends and family are instantly notified and have access to a tracker tool. Real Agent Guard is one of few tools available that requires an agent to use a PIN to logout or reset the timer, preventing an assailant from manually doing these.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer this service to our members, especially when it's coming from founders based in Arkansas who are dedicated to keeping our agents safe," says Doyle Yates, president of the Northwest Arkansas Board of Realtors and executive vice president with Coldwell Banker Harris McHaney & Faucette Real Estate in Fayetteville, Ark. "This is an investment worth making to ensure that our Realtors are safe when showing homes alone."
Apps currently available in the iOS and Android stores include Mobile App for Agents (free to download), Mobile App/Platform for Monitors, and Friends and Family App.
About Real Agent Guard
Real Agent Guard, based in Rogers, Ark., is a mobile-enabled personal security service that provides real-time monitoring of employees or agents for the purpose of providing both monitoring and deterrence from potential personal attacks. The technology features mobile apps and a robust set of cloud-based tools that tracks and notifies designated persons of potential harm. The company also offers a unique video monitoring solution for open house events - protecting both the agent and the homeowner's property. http://www.realagentguard.com.
CALABASAS, Calif., Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Radian Memory Systems® today emerged from stealth mode to unveil breakthrough software technology that enables the next era of Flash storage for data centers. The technology utilizes conventional SSD hardware to deliver 80% improvements in I/O performance and 10x improvements in critical latency metrics, while at the same time significantly reducing hardware acquisition costs and extending usable product life.
"The biggest barriers to extending Flash penetration in data centers are cost, unpredictable latency spikes, and wear out. At Radian we took a unique approach that addresses each of these challenges at the system level, where applications and data centers can realize the advantages," said Mike Jadon, Radian's CEO and co-founder.
Radian's Symphonic(TM) technology is a combination of SSD firmware, host libraries, and an API that replace the Flash-Translation-Layer (FTL) traditionally found on SSDs.
System software, e.g., file systems, block virtualization managers, or object/key value stores have comprehensive capabilities to intelligently manage storage media. But this system software is not equipped to directly perform some of the unique processes required to manage Flash memory. Radian's Symphonic technology abstracts lower level Flash attributes while enabling the host system software to perform what the company calls Cooperative Flash Management (CFM).
According to leading analyst, George Crump of Storage Switzerland, "At the system-level, hyperscale and purpose-built storage have been struggling with how much performance and cost they can extract from Flash devices. Flash-Translation-Layers (FTLs) have provided a 'one size fits all' approach, but they're an obstacle for system designers trying to eliminate latency spikes while minimizing overprovisioning. Radian's Symphonic technology takes these factors into account, providing architects the system-level design space they need to realize the QoS and cost savings possible with Flash."
The challenges associated with removing the SSD FTL have involved potentially significant modifications to system software, scalability as additional devices are added to a system, and the reliability/serviceability functionality required for data center class products. Symphonic addresses these requirements by turning the SSD into an offload accelerator engine, minimizing host system resource consumption and enabling linear scalability across metrics as additional SSDs are added to a system. Including specialized geometry emulation and configurable addressing capabilities, the Symphonic software minimizes modifications to existing system software while providing essential data center features, including Forward Compatibility to future proof system software from vendor-specific and evolutionary changes in Flash silicon geometries.
"FTLs enabled rapid NAND flash adoption and high-end disk displacement," said Robin Harris of Storage Mojo. "But the well-documented mismatch between FTLs and host software means that to realize flash's full performance potential a new software model is required. Radian's Symphonic technology is a major step forward. By addressing existing host stacks along with the next gen architectures, it helps future-proof today's investments in SSDs. Users get higher performance and vendors get higher margins. It's a win-win for all."
In addition to ground breaking performance benchmarks, the Symphonic technology also substantially reduces costs, both in terms of up front acquisition and TCO. By operating in host address space, Symphonic-based SSDs do not require the additional 15% to 30% of overprovisioning of raw Flash typically reserved inside a data center class SSD in an attempt to mitigate latency spikes. And because Symphonic reduces write amplification factors 50% to 100%, the usable like of the Flash hardware can be doubled.
"As flash has become prevalent in the data center users have grown more sophisticated," said Jim Handy, general director of Objective Analysis. "These users have shifted their focus away from simple IOPS ratings and now try to reduce overall latency and eliminate latency spikes. Any solution that can minimize latency spikes, especially under varying write loads, will find broad acceptance."
Along with the Symphonic software technology, Radian Memory Systems is introducing a line of purpose-built SSDs for the data center. Beginning with the RMS-250, a 2.5" NVMe 2TB SSD, each Radian SSD includes the Symphonic firmware and respective host-based libraries to enable Cooperative Flash Management.
Radian's team includes a unique blend of storage device and system-level expertise which is reflected in the architecture of the company's products. Much of the business and technical leadership comes from Micro Memory [Curtiss-Wright], where the Radian team members were responsible for creating and supplying the industry's leading fault tolerant PCI/PCIe NVRAM storage devices. This included shipping over 100K units in production deployments to OEMs such as EMC (Clariion line), NetApp, Dell, Isilon [EMC], Data Domain [EMC], Nimble Storage, Tintri, Avere Systems, Quantum, and X-IO. This device-based experience has been complemented by Radian engineers and architects with system-level storage experience from Isilon [EMC], Veritas [Symantec], Data Direct Networks, Dot Hill and various system network equipment manufacturers.
The Radian technology and products target system OEMs, cloud and service providers, and licensing to device-based manufacturers to support primary storage requirements throughout the data center. User applications range from the latest webscale and 'big data' frameworks to virtual machines and transaction processing. Sales are handled directly and in partnership with industry leading distributors. The NIKKOR Legacy Thrives: Three New Nikon Lenses Put Performance And New Perspectives In Focus
MELVILLE, N.Y., Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Nikon Inc. announced three exciting new NIKKOR lenses for professional and enthusiast photographers. The new AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR is the evolution of one of Nikon's most popular pro lenses, improving upon its versatility and image quality. Nikon has also announced two additional new lens options, including the lightweight AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR, a super-telephoto zoom that gives FX and DX-format photographers incredible reach in a compact size. The AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED is the latest addition to Nikon's popular line of f/1.8 fixed focal length lenses and is ideal for those seeking a sharp, fast-aperture prime lens.
"These three very different lenses are representative of the diverse range of Nikon photographers, but they all provide the most vibrant, sharp images and HD video possible; with color and clarity that only genuine NIKKOR optics can deliver," said Masahiro Horie, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc.
AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR
Look into the bag of nearly any Nikon-wielding pro and you will find Nikon's iconic 24-70mm f/2.8, and with good reason; this lens' versatility and image quality has made it an essential workhorse lens for every type of shooter. The new AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR improves upon its respected predecessor in nearly every aspect, adding the best Nikon lens technologies to create an essential optic. An exciting evolution to come to this lens is the much-anticipated addition of Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization technology. With up to four stops of image stabilization*, the new 24-70mm f/2.8 VR is ready to tackle the challenging light of a wedding ceremony or on-the-spot news, while Tripod Mode helps to banish blur for landscape shooters. VR is also a huge benefit to filmmakers shooting handheld or on a rig who already appreciate the lens' depth-of-field control and precise sharpness.
The new NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8 utilizes Nikon's Electromagnetic Aperture control, which allows for consistent exposures during high speed bursts of shooting. This lens also improves upon image quality with new optical construction to provide clarity and consistently sharp images, and is ideal for capturing portraits, landscapes and weddings. For nearly any assignment in any kind of light, the combination of a fast f/2.8 constant maximum aperture and useful zoom range make this lens the choice of many professionals. A first for NIKKOR lenses, a new Aspherical Extra-Low Dispersion (ASP/ED) element is paired with traditional aspherical, ED and High-Refractive Index (HRI) elements for a thrilling new level of optical precision. Photos and videos take on a beautiful balance of sharpness and subtle blur effects, virtually free of flare, ghosting, coma and chromatic aberration throughout the frame. Nikon's exclusive Nano Crystal Coat is also employed to further reduce instances of ghosting and flare.
The new lens construction enhances durability and image quality, while retaining the overall balance and handling that made this a favorite of photographers in the first place. The lens is sealed and gasketed against the elements, and now features a fluorine coating on the front and rear element to make it easier to remove dirt, moisture and smudges from the lens surface. The optical formula consists of 20 elements in 16 groups, while a 9-blade diaphragm helps to create a pleasing, natural out of focus area with beautiful bokeh. Additionally, the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR features a new filter diameter of 82mm and will accept the new Nikon CPL2 Circular Polarizer and 82mm NC (Neutral Color) filters.
AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR
The new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR is an exhilarating new lens option, giving enthusiast FX and DX-format photographers the ability to go further with amazing zoom power and tack-sharp clarity. This compact super-telephoto zoom is ideal for bringing distant subjects closer, including birds, sports, wildlife and motorsports. This lens opens the doors for a fresh new perspective; with a maximum reach of 500mm on FX-format Nikon cameras and a staggering 750mm equivalent reach on DX-format cameras. With a maximum aperture of f/5.6, photographers have the ability to fill much of the frame with their subject and create a pleasing background blur, even in challenging light. This lens also features Nikon's Electromagnetic Aperture for consistent exposures, as well as VR with 4.5 stops of image stabilization. Additionally, the VR features Sport Mode, which is well-suited for capturing vibrant, sharp images of distant subjects at high frame rates or when panning with fast-moving action. The lens also lets users focus as close as 7.2 ft. throughout the entire focal range, for when a decisive play comes closer than expected, or capturing intricate details of nature.
Whether spending all day at an air race or in the field, the new NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6 is surprisingly lightweight at only 5 lbs 1.2 oz. (2300 grams) including the tripod collar, making this lens easy to use handheld for extended periods. Photographers looking for even more reach can increase the zoom power using an optional compatible Nikon 1.4x, 1.7x or 2x E series Teleconverters** to capture even the most distant subjects.
The new AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR's optical formula features three ED elements to enhance sharpness and minimize chromatic aberration. A 9-blade aperture provides a desirable, smooth bokeh, while Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology helps to quickly and quietly achieve critical focus. The filter diameter of the new 200-500mm lens is 95mm, and Nikon will also offer optional 95mm NC (Neutral Color) and the 95mm Circular Polarizer CPL2 filters.
AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED
The AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED is the latest addition to the exceptional system of NIKKOR f/1.8 primes, and provides enthusiast photographers with a fast wide-angle prime lens that's both lightweight and affordable. This new lens lets photographers immerse viewers into landscapes, interiors and architecture with amazing clarity and minimal distortion, while a fast maximum aperture delivers superb bokeh and excellent low-light ability. Whether a photographer's passion is capturing environmental portraits or the delicious details of a meal, this lens creates a dramatic separation between subject and background.
The new NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8 complements Nikon's high-resolution DSLRs and provides amazing image quality thanks to Nikon lens technologies including Nikon's exclusive Nano Crystal Coat. Additionally, this compact lens features ED and Aspherical lens elements for extreme sharpness while minimizing ghosting and flare.

Gadia Power, the Bio-Sensing Gesture Control Wearable, now on Indiegogo
BOSTON, Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Motion-controlled gaming means there's no need to wrestle with complicated controllers or button combos. It's so easy that even our grandparents can get the hang of it. Motion control technology is one of those developments that seemed almost like magic before it emerged, but then we broke through a boundary between us and our technology and made our games a part of ourselves. The problem is, only certain games use motion control - and only certain devices work with those games. We might dream of casting spells or driving cars with just or body movements, but those dreams have always seemed a little far away - until now. The Gadia Power controller puts the power to control electronics in your hands - literally.
By incorporating bio-sensing technology, this micro-sized device lets you control your smartphone, smartwatch or computer with simple hand gestures - and with a little tweaking, it can also be used with a wide range of other electronics, including nano drones and VR helmets.
Unlike other electromyograph (EMG) devices, Gadia Power is small, lightweight, and durable - making it ideal for carrying on all your outdoor adventures. It's just a little over one square inch in size - which means you can wear it on a handy strap, or even stick it to your body with medical-grade adhesive. It'll stay with you wherever you go, even if you're hiking, skiing or climbing. And Gadia Power's long-lasting battery and long-distance fast data transfer will make sure you stay connected to your devices, no matter how far from home you roam.
And while other controllers are hemmed in by limitations - keyboards are limited by your typing skill, for example; and even camera-based devices are limited by their viewing range - Gadia Power is foolproof, since it tracks the actual electrical activity within your muscles.
Gadia Power recognizes more than six distinct hand gestures - plenty to perform the basic actions you'll use to control most devices. But that's only the beginning. Gadia Power's open-source documentation, combined with its developer-friendly API and active support community, mean that plenty of expansions are on the way.
This open access for developers means you can combine Gadia Power with VR devices, immersing you and your body into games like never before. Gain control of your workouts with Gadia Power - track the intensity of each exercise, and tweak your fitness plan to fit your goals. Adjust your room's temperature with a flick of a finger, and lock or unlock your door with a wave of your hand. It sounds like science fiction - but with Gadia Power, it's right on the verge of becoming reality.
Keyboards and game controllers are the past. Gadia Power is the future. With a Gadia Power device, the power is in your hands.

A Unique Device for Storing Future Electronic Contact Lenses
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- EP Global Communications, Inc. (OTC: EPGL). In the past month, EPGL has been contacted by several Investment firms and some of Silicon Valley's venture capital firms even though EPGL is not currently seeking venture capital. Why is this?
Forbes Magazine summed it up best on July 31, 2015: "Forget about the Apple Watch...we're about to enter the next level of high tech innovation - connecting with yourself."

Contact lenses are the Holy Grail for this technology as recent movies such as "Mission Impossible" illustrate.
EPGL announces today, yet another specific technology it has invented; "The Smart Case" which takes today's average contact lens case and turns it into a computerized data transfer medium, charging medium and analytical medium, all while you sleep at night. "This will be your contact lens' 'Mothership'," said David Markus Ph.D. "Future contact lenses will require much more than just a simple case with solution in it. It's not easy to do all this in a fluid environment where contact lenses must live," said Markus. EPGL has shown the technology to be effective in experimentation at top manufacturing facilities. The Company is positioning this technology and others as essential platforms for major manufacturers to license it.
For the past three years, EPGL has been deeply involved in some key pioneering technology for integration of electronics into soft contact lenses and now has several patents pending. "The future of the smart phone is literally in your field of vision," said Michael Hayes, President of EPGL. Becoming 3D Announces New Leasing Program for 3D Printers
3D printing solutions startup partners with GreatAmerica Financial and Ascentium Capital to offer easy financing alternative for purchasing 3D printers
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Becoming 3D today has announced strategic partnerships with two of the country's leading leasing corporations, GreatAmerica Financial Services Corp and Ascentium Capital to offer affordable leasing options for purchasing high end 3D printing equipment. Financing or leasing expensive 3D printers allows businesses and individuals to acquire better machines than they could normally afford while preserving capital.
"After evaluating the partners available in the market we are proud to have selected GreatAmerica Financial Services and Ascentium Capital. Both have sterling reputations and excel in providing affordable financing products, have rapid credit approvals, and are committed to long-term customer service. Our goal is to help speed the adoption of 3D printing into mainstream manufacturing markets and to the general public", said Becoming 3D CEO Grant Sadowski.
Historically, established companies lease equipment to keep bank credit lines open for other purposes. Young, start-up companies and home users lease primarily to conserve cash. While businesses requiring state of the art technology lease equipment to avoid technological obsolescence and to preserve the ability to upgrade.
The Becoming 3D approval and leasing process can be completed in just a matter of hours after an applicant has initiated the process online at their website. Leasing gives Becoming 3D customers the ability to lease more sophisticated equipment or obtain multiple machines they otherwise would be unable to afford with a direct purchase.
"Industry experts estimate that up to 70% of traditional manufacturing companies lease their equipment. It only makes good business sense to bring that model to the world of 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Further, being able to offer the same finance options to home consumers as well is just good business sense", said Sadowski.

Cypress Introduces 1Mb nvSRAM with a Quad Serial Peripheral Interface For High-Throughput, Highly Reliable Data Capture on Power Loss
Nonvolatile RAM Solution Simplifies Designs by Eliminating Batteries and Reducing Pin Count For RAID Storage, Industrial Automation and Networking Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today introduced a 1Mb nonvolatile static random access memory (nvSRAM) with a Quad serial peripheral interface (SPI). The Quad SPI interface enables the new nvSRAM to exceed the data throughput of larger parallel interface devices with a smaller footprint. The nvSRAM ensures high-throughput data capture in event of a power loss without batteries for RAID storage, industrial automation, computing and networking applications.
The CY14V101QS 1Mb nvSRAM with Quad SPI interface works at a clock speed of up to 108 MHz and offers performance exceeding that of a parallel interface (x8 IO width, 45-ns access time) device. The nvSRAM provides 24MBps random read/write access time with unlimited write endurance, and 20-year data retention. With its reduced I/O width, it offers reduced pin count and board footprint in a 16-pin SOIC package and 24-ball BGA package. The device also includes an optional integrated real-time clock (RTC) with +/- 50ppm uncalibrated accuracy. The nvSRAM offers lower power consumption by a factor of 5.8 (active) and a factor of 10 (sleep) compared to competitive devices. A video on the device is available at http://www.cypress.com/video-library/Memory/quad-spi-nvsram/307986.
Cypress nvSRAMs are RoHS-compliant and directly replace SRAM, battery-backed SRAM, EPROM and EEPROM devices, offering reliable nonvolatile data storage without batteries. Data transfers from the SRAM to the device's nonvolatile elements take place automatically at power down. On power up, data is restored to the SRAM from the nonvolatile memory. Both operations are also available under software control.
"Mission-critical systems require high-performance memories that can capture data instantly and reliably on power loss," said Sonal Chandrasekhar, Director of the Nonvolatile Products Business Unit at Cypress. "Cypress's new 1Mb Quad SPI nvSRAM delivers fail-safe data security with the throughput performance of parallel devices in a small form factor with low power consumption."
Cypress's nvSRAMs are manufactured on its SONOS (Silicon Oxide Nitride Oxide Silicon) embedded nonvolatile memory technology, enabling greater densities and improved access times and performance. nvSRAMs are ideal solutions for applications requiring high performance and absolute nonvolatile data security such as RAID systems, PLCs, industrial data loggers, computing and networking systems, motor drives, routers and switches, avionics, defense systems, and gaming systems.
A leader in SONOS process technology, Cypress is using the technology in its flagship PSoC(®) mixed-signal arrays, programmable clocks and other products. SONOS is compatible with standard CMOS technologies and offers numerous advantages including high endurance, low power, and radiation hardness. The SONOS technology is qualified to run in Cypress's internal fab and in multiple foundry partner locations. The technology provides a superior solution in terms of scalability and manufacturability compared to other magnetic based nonvolatile memory technologies. Cypress has shipped more than two billion units that employ the SONOS process technology utilized in the nvSRAMs.
Availability
The CY14V101QS 1Mb nvSRAM is sampling today with production expected in the third quarter of 2015.
About Cypress nvSRAMs
Cypress's nvSRAMs use charge stored on an external capacitor instead of a battery, making the devices compatible with standard PCB assembly processes. Cypress's nvSRAMs are ROHS-compliant and directly replace SRAM and battery-backed SRAM (BBSRAM) products, offering fast non-volatile data storage. Data transfers from the SRAM to the device's nonvolatile elements take place automatically at power down. On power up, data is restored to the SRAM from the nonvolatile memory. In networking, industrial, computing and RAID applications, nvSRAMs offer high-speed data transfer while ensuring data integrity in case of power outages, without the need for a battery. More information about Cypress's portfolio of nvSRAM products is available at http://www.cypress.com/nonvolatile.
