1. Is there a feature of IDOL 3 that you'd like to highlight?
Today we use our smartphones as a camera. To immortalize the most important moments of our lives, we grab our smartphones without even thinking about it. That's why it's important to offer an integrated camera that is able to focus quickly, especially to capture people, who are always moving. So we partnered with Fotonation to create Fast Face Focus, which enables face detection in just 0.26 seconds. Now you can take great pictures in any kind of situation.
2. Rumor has it that IDOL 3 will feature the latest innovations in audio.
Absolutely. We completely redesigned the IDOL's music player to make it fun. It includes the leading streaming services and lets users mix their music manually or automatically. At the same time, the front stereo speakers produce true-to-life sound thanks to a state-of-the-art hi-fi chip; Clari-Fi by Harman, which rectifies digitally compressed music; and 3D audio, which is great for watching movies.
3. ALCATEL ONETOUCH is the brand that makes innovations accessible to all. Can you give us some concrete examples?
Yes, one of the most exciting things we've introduced lately is the award-winning WATCH, a beautifully designed, multifunction smartwatch that's a fraction of the cost of comparable products. Not to mention our low-cost PIXI line of smartphones, which makes 4G connectivity accessible to a wide base and offers a choice of three operating systems.

1. Where did you get your inspiration for this smartphone?
It came from a struggle that we all have in our everyday lives. Whether we're shopping at the supermarket, riding a bike or carrying files in the office, our hands are often full. When the phone rings, we don't usually have much time to answer. By the time we free our hands or search through our bags and find the right way to pick up the phone, it's already too late.
That's why I had this idea of a smartphone you can pick up both ways. IDOL 3 rocks, even upside down.
2. How about the overall design of the phone?
With the upside-down effect comes the necessity of keeping the phone perfectly symmetrical. So we put a lot of effort into designing this orientation-free structure with dual front speakers. We also paid attention to the minutest details. The elegant casing, for example, featuring a brushed metal frame with a dual-color diamond-cut effect, is unique in the industry.
3.How do you work with your design studio?
Our team of designers is rapidly expanding -- we have a whole group of young and passionate designers. My designers are inspired by everything around them: what's going on in the music, film and automotive industries, for instance.

1. What does the launch of this smartphone mean for ALCATEL ONETOUCH?
It's a smartphone that really shows that we can deliver the best experience for our customers. IDOL 3 is a premium smartphone that will reach a worldwide audience and we have high hopes for its sales. It's the perfect product to demonstrate the value we provide and to showcase the ALCATEL ONETOUCH brand.
On another note, it is also our first fully global launch. We've put a lot of effort into synchronizing everything, from product availability to the marketing approach to advertising. This smartphone will be shipped to many of the major carriers and retailers all across the world.
2. How would you compare IDOL 3 with the competition?
I think it's the best in its category -- especially if you look at all of the features (JBL sound, Technicolor Color Enhance technology), the massive innovations that are in it (Fast Face Focus, its reversibility) and the design. It's a smartphone you can proudly show your friends.
3. What makes this smartphone stand out?

BARCELONA, Spain, March 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MediaTek, today announced the release of the MT6753, a 64-bit Octa-core mobile system-on-chip (SoC) with support for WorldMode modem capability. Coupled with the previously announced MT6735 quad-core SoC, the new MT6753 is designed with high performance features for an ever more demanding mid-range market.
Reinforcing MediaTek's commitment to driving the latest technology to customers across the world, the MT6753 SoC will be offered at a price that creates strong value for customers, especially as it comes with integrated CDMA2000 to ensure compatibility in every market. The eight ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit processors and Mali-T720 GPU helps to ensure customers can meet graphic-heavy multimedia requirements while also maintaining battery efficiency for high-end devices.

MediaTek Introduces a New Convergence Standard for Cross-Device Sharing with CrossMount
Fast and easy sharing of content, hardware and software resources enable multiple devices to combine and act together as a single, more powerful device
BARCELONA, Spain, March 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MediaTek today announced CrossMount - a new technology that simplifies hardware and software resource sharing between different consumer devices. Designed to be a new standard in cross-device convergence, the CrossMount framework ensures any compatible device can seamlessly use and share hardware or software resources authorized by the user. CrossMount is an open and simple-to-implement technology for the wide ecosystem of MediaTek customers and partners that opens the possibilities for multiple devices effectively working as one or sharing applications and hardware resources.
CrossMount defines its service mounting standard based on UPnP protocol, and can be implemented primarily in Android and Linux as well as other platforms. CrossMount works through simple discovery, pairing, authorization and use between devices of both hardware and software resources across smartphones, tablets and TVs. Communication between devices is achieved directly between devices via home gateways (Wireless LAN) or peer to peer (Wi-Fi Direct). Discovery and sharing are granted through an easy software implementation that allows all Wi-Fi capable devices to share resources without the need for cloud servers.

SMIC Achieves 8M Pixel CIS Production on 0.13-Micron BSI with Cista
SHANGHAI, Feb. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC") (NYSE: SMI; SEHK: 981) the largest and most advanced pure-play foundry provider in China, and Cista System Corp. a fabless semiconductor company that specializes in CMOS Image Sensors (CIS) and System on Chip (SoC) designs, have jointly announced the achievement of mass production for two CIS-BSI products, of 1.3MP resolution with 1.75-micron pixel and 8MP resolution with 1.4-micron pixel, respectively. Both sensors are based on SMIC's independently developed 0.13-micron BSI technology platform.
Back-Side Illumination (BSI) CMOS Image Sensor technology increases the amount of light captured by the sensor, and thus enables image sensors with improved low-light performance. SMIC's 0.13-micron CIS-BSI technology is independently developed and offers competitive performance. Based on a low leakage process, it only uses three aluminum metal layers for reduced cost and supports pixel sizes down to 1.4-micron for 8MP resolution CIS. SMIC also provides full in-house turn-key service which includes CIS wafer fabrication, color filter & micro-lens processing, TSV-CSP and testing to help customers shorten the supply chain with fast cycle time and low cost.

Qualcomm Technologies also announced that it successfully completed over-the-air testing to prove co-existence between multiple LTE-U and Wi-Fi access points in the unlicensed spectrum under extreme load conditions. Qualcomm Technologies will showcase its new solutions with a number of LTE-U demonstrations at Mobile World Congress, March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain.

The WTR3950 extends Qualcomm Technologies' RF product leadership in LTE Advanced, which is based on successful commercialization of single-chip RF transceivers for LTE carrier aggregation. The WTR3950 pairs with the WTR3925, the first 28 nm RF for single chip Cat 6 carrier aggregation, to support up to 3x20 MHz carrier aggregation across licensed and unlicensed spectrum. Successful testing of LTE-U and Wi-Fi coexistence
In order for LTE-U to provide maximum benefit, it must operate harmoniously alongside billions of existing Wi-Fi devices. Qualcomm Technologies is working to integrate LTE and Wi-Fi at the system level, and employs a robust set of protection features to promote the best possible co-existence between LTE-U and Wi-Fi networks. These innovations are designed to ensure users can connect to the Internet however they prefer, while operators can make unified use of all available spectrum to increase capacity. This is designed to result in easier and cost-effective network deployment and operations for carriers and a seamless experience for their consumers.
In its San Diego, Calif. headquarters, Qualcomm Technologies engineers deployed a state-of-the-art network comprising multiple Wi-Fi access points and LTE-U small cells - all operating in a single channel in the unlicensed 5GHz band - to evaluate real-life performance and interference in multiple scenarios. After extensive testing that replicated extremely dense radio conditions, the data concluded that LTE-U can not only provide superior performance than either LTE or Wi-Fi used individually, but fairly coexists with Wi-Fi. In many cases, shifting traffic from Wi-Fi to LTE-U can actually improve performance for Wi-Fi users, due to the efficient way that LTE uses the unlicensed spectrum.
Testing scenarios included both "adaptive duty-cycle" based coexistence which is suitable for commercial LTE-U deployments in countries such as the US, China and Korea using LTE Release 10 and beyond, as well as Listen Before Talk (LBT) based techniques that are proposed through a work item for an upcoming release of the LTE standard, Release 13, which is expected to define a version of LTE-U known as Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA), suitable for deployments in other regions such as Europe and Japan.

The TC35668IXBG offers a highly integrated solution for automotive hands-free and audio streaming subsystems. Suitable for integration by car OEMs and for after-sales automotive market audio systems, the new IC can also form the basis of a subsystem such as a wireless speaker.

The TC35668IXBG features three core elements: an ARM Cortex(®)-M3 based system core; a Bluetooth core with 52MHz ARM7TDMI-S(®); and a 208MHz CEVA TeakLite-III(®) DSP core. The Bluetooth core combines a transceiver, antenna switch, balun, low noise amplifier and power amplifier. Toshiba has integrated not only the standard Bluetooth HCI (host controller interface) hardware and software but also a full software stack and a set of 14 classic and BLE GATT profiles, which are Bluetooth SIG compliant. Stack and profiles are pre-certified and reside in ROM, and application code is stored in an external serial flash memory and executed from internal SRAM. This combination of hardware and software results in a very small bill of materials that can help companies minimize system size and cost, and allows a faster time-to-market due to proven embedded software.
In addition to full support for Bluetooth v4.0 with embedded stack, various Bluetooth Classic profiles and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) GATT profile, Toshiba has incorporated a DSP that allows for acoustic improvements inside a noisy environment, such as a car, and echo cancellation for hands-free systems. The signal processor is also capable of decoding audio content, including MP3 and AAC files. Another embedded MCU enables the execution of application software.
The TC35668IXBG is supplied in a compact 97-ball P-VFBGA package measuring 6.0 x 6.0 x 1.0mm. A trace UART interface is incorporated that aids system debugging and enables developers to tune the characteristics of the device for echo cancellation and noise reduction.

Sampling now, the TC35668IXBG is slated to begin mass production in Q3 2015.

The Arbor Solution ASLAN Series utilizes an Intel® Celeron Processor J1900 Quad-Core CPU that provides higher operating frequency, lower power consumption, and better data processing. The units come with a wide selection of vertical I/O connectors, conveniently located on the back panel, allowing for easy expansion. These include: two each RS232 and RS-232/485 serial ports with auto flow control; one Type-A USB 3.0 and three Type-A USB 2.0 ports; three RJ-45 gigabit Ethernet LAN ports; one DVI-I video connector; and two SMA antenna holes for optional Wi-Fi function.
Industry 4.0 Application
In an Industry 4.0 application, the ASLAN Series' three Gigabit LANs may simultaneously facilitate RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) connections, M2M communication between machines or factories, as well as support company intranet and cloud connections.
Vast amounts of relevant production information generated by various manufacturing sources, sensors, and communication with RTUs and/or other devices can be collected, processed and passed on to centralized production management via one LAN. A second LAN could allow the panel PC to integrate additional industrial equipment, enabling better M2M communication by means of exchanging information within buildings and remote locations. The third LAN could then be used to link servers via clouds and cloud-based applications, resulting in conclusive information for viewing and real time control.

Both the 15.6" (ASLAN-W715C) and 18.5" (ASLAN-W719C) models offer 1366 x 768 WXGA resolution, while the 21.5" (ASLAN-W722C) boasts full high definition of 1920 x 1080. Each model includes energy-efficient LED backlighting for more accurate colors and superior image quality.
