Futronic Launches FS64 FBI EBTS/F Certified Ten Print Scanner
HONG KONG, March 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Futronic Technology Company Limited, a reputable manufacturer of optical fingerprint scanners, announces today the commercial release of FS64 FBI EBTS/F Certified Ten Print Scanner.
FS64 is a fingerprint scanner that can capture four flat fingerprints at a time. By capturing the four fingers of each hand and both thumbs together, ten fingerprints of a person can be captured in about 10 seconds. FS64 can also capture rolling fingerprint images. Rolling fingerprints are usually used in forensic science and criminal investigations. FS64 is a high quality and low-cost solution for fingerprint enrollment and identification in various applications including national elections, biometric data collection for national identity card issuing, etc. When FS64 is used in these applications it can speed up the process by capturing large number of fingerprints in a short period of time. Furthermore, the image quality of the captured fingerprint is guaranteed.
FS64 was certified by the FBI to be compliant with the EBTS/F Image Quality Specification for "Identification Flats Systems" and "Live Scan Systems." EBTS/F is a widely-accepted standard in today's biometric market. Many government tenders require a fingerprint scanner to have this certification before it can participate to bid.
The fingerprint image captured by FS64 can be packed into an ANSI-381 or ISO19794-4 interchangeable format by using the Enrollment Kit software provided by Futronic. A lot of other software is also available including WSQ compression, NFIQ image quality check and a full feature capture demo. The capture demo shows the control of the built-in 10 bi-color LEDs, acoustic buzzer and 2 programmable function keys. Program source codes of the demo software are provided as an example for the developer to customize their application. Customers who bought FS64 are allowed to use and distribute the software free of charge.

Assisted and Independent Living Borrow a Standards-based Approach From Previous Lessons Learned
For decades, skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes have required the use of a listed nurse call system that complies with ANSI/UL 1069, "Standard for Hospital Signaling and Nurse Call Equipment." First published in 1974, this standard was designed specifically for the unique requirements of acute care settings and has served that segment of the market well.

Finesse Solutions Launches TruBio microC 3.5 Bioreactor Control Software for its novel G3Lab Universal Controllers
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Finesse Solutions, Inc., a manufacturer of measurement and control solutions for life science process applications, announced the release of TruBio® microC version 3.5 bioreactor control software. The software has been optimized for lab scale (< 50 L) bioreactors and enables the use of G3Lab Universal controllers and the new SmartParts(TM) components.
TruBio microC harnesses the processing power of the Wintel platform to achieve smart control that is fully scalable and works "out-of- the-box". TruBio microC software also has many other advanced features already integrated for end user convenience: for example, data graphing and reporting are standard along with off-line data entry and electronic process notes.
TruBio microC software has been optimized to provide a cost-effective and user-friendly solution for research and process development needs. Version 3.5 allows users to automatically switch between stirred bioreactors made from glass or plastic to rockers, and between re-usable to single-use sensors, further increasing the flexibility of the platform as a "point of control" that is no longer fixed to a vessel type or specific process.
TruBio microC is truly "click-and-process" because all control loops are pre-tuned to the bioreactor vessel being used. The control loop parameters are stored in vessel configuration files, which facilitates rapid scale-up from a 1L to a 20L glass vessel or a 10L to a 50L rocker. Each vessel file is created using data obtained when the vessel is characterized and contains all of the information required to control critical process parameters.
TruBio microC 3.5 software also allows multiple network computers to offload their process data to an application station (data aggregating) historian. This architecture expansion converts the network computers into operator stations so that large numbers of bench scale bioreactors can be easily configured for sophisticated design of experiment runs, but all of the data is stored for analysis in one location. For mobility within the laboratory, version 3.5 can also run on an iPAD or iPADmini.

MediaTek Announces Pump Express(TM) Fast-Charging for Mobile Devices
Combined system-on-a-chip (SOC) and DC wall charger technology reduces battery recharge times for smartphones and tablets by up to half
HSINCHU, Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MediaTek today announced Pump Express(TM), a fast-charging technology for smartphones and tablets.
When incorporated into a mobile device's power management integrated circuit (PMIC) and corresponding DC wall charger, MediaTek Pump Express(TM) cuts mobile device battery recharge times by half, compared to a standard USB charger. Shorter recharge times mean less waiting around for a mobile device to be ready to use.
Pump Express(TM) allows a mobile device to negotiate with the DC wall charger to determine the initial voltage required to recharge the battery, based on its current charge. The voltage is then gradually increased to up to 5V to maximize the charging current, while keeping the battery safely within its thermal limits.
Pump Express(TM ) technology is available in two forms to suit different battery capacities. Pump Express(TM )is designed for DC wall chargers with an output of less than 10W (5V), while Pump Express(TM )Plus is for chargers with an output of 15W or more (up to 12V).

extraordinary general meeting of shareholders scheduled to take place on Thursday, March
13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. (Israel time), at the offices of the Company, located at 5 Kinneret
Street, 32nd Floor, Bnei-Brak, Israel (the "Meeting"), that a proxy statement describing
the agenda and the form of proxy card for use by shareholders that cannot attend the
Meeting in person were filed electronically today on Form 6-K with the Securities and

Prada pays Burger 23 million

The Vote Is In - Members of the European Parliament Approve New EU Tobacco Rules

Yesterday a vote to approve a deal reached with member states in December on new EU
tobacco rules was passed by Members of the European Parliament.
As e-cigarettes caused concern for national governments regarding the unknown
long-term health effects, the proposal put forward by the European Commission in 2012
called for them to be regulated as medicines, and member states also requested to ban
refillable cartridges over concerns about safety and nicotine content.
Following the announcement, Patricia Kovacevic, Director, Regulatory Affairs and
Associate General Counsel of SKYCIG and Advisory Board Member of eCig Europe - mentioned,
"We are obviously disappointed that the European Parliament failed to give due
consideration to the harm reduction opportunity presented by electronic cigarettes and,
moreover, neglected to propose a well-reasoned, product-specific regulatory framework to
adequately address consumer demand. Several more procedural steps must be followed before
the revisions to the TPD will be deemed effective, and it seems likely that the
implementation of TPD Article 18 at the national level will continue to face opposition
from multiple interested stakeholders. We expect clear direction and transparency from UK
authorities with regard to the TPD implementation pathway in the UK. In any event, we will
continue to comply with all legal requirements as they become applicable to our products."
The compromise agreed with national governments in December, backed by MEPs today,
will see e-cigarettes regulated for general sale at EU level, but member states would be
allowed to regulate them as medicines if they so choose. Refillable cartridges will not be
banned. However member states can ban specific types of cartridges, if the ban can be
justified by safety concerns. Cartridge size will be capped at 2ml. E-cigarettes will be
limited to a maximum permitted nicotine concentration level of 20mg/ml, equivalent to
roughly one pack of regular cigarettes.
