SECurity Message Service: Security Vulnerability - "SAS for Windows" Buffer Overflow Leads to Code Execution
VIENNA, February 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
"SAS for Windows" is part of a software for statistical analysis, data-mining and
business intelligence. The software was shipped by the manufacturer SAS Institute Inc.
containing a critical vulnerability [1]. The vulnerabilities were discovered in a routine
security crash test by experts of the SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab ( http://www.sec-consult.com).
The vulnerability enables state-sponsored or criminal hackers to create a malicious
SAS-file, which gives an attacker full control over the attacked computer if the file gets
processed with "SAS for Windows". An attacker can send phishing mails containing such a
manipulated SAS-file to subsequently attack the internal corporate network via a
compromised client computer.
The experts of the SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab were able to successfully exploit the
vulnerability during a crash test, bypass current mitigation techniques on a standard
Windows 7 installation (including firewall and anti-virus software) and control the
attacked computer remotely over the Internet.
SEC Consult experts recommend immediately installing the update, released by the
vendor to counter these vulnerabilities [2]. SEC Consult advises that customers of SAS
products should demand from the vendor exhaustive security tests by (European) security
experts before the implementation of the respective software product.

Northrop Grumman's Delivery of Modular Space Vehicle Means Faster, Flexible, Small Satellite Launch Capabilities
REDONDO BEACH, Calif., Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Battlefield commanders have long wanted satellites that can be assembled quickly and launched rapidly to meet immediate needs. Now they have that capability with the plug-and-play Modular Space Vehicle (MSV) delivered Feb. 25 by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC).
The MSV is the first open systems spacecraft bus that supports a top priority of launching smaller, less expensive satellites in a matter of weeks for short-term missions - a capability commonly referred to as "responsive space."
A Northrop Grumman-led team designed and built MSV in 30 months under a task order valued at approximately $50 million. The company delivered the MSV to the Operationally Responsive Space Office at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., which leads U.S. military efforts to shorten satellite development time.

WinTV-HVR-1975 supports seven different TV formats for over-the-air and digital cable TV in North America and Europe

Enterprise Demands Necessitate Fast, Efficient Storage
The demand for more efficient storage continues to grow as IT and facilities collide, creating the need for a better balance between capacity, performance, physical space and energy usage. To bridge this gap, customizing and tiering infrastructure workloads and tuning HDDs and SSDs by application and function will help data center managers more efficiently handle ever-increasing amounts of data.
Supporting demanding 24/7 enterprise workloads like online transaction processing and intensive data analytics, the Ultrastar C15K600 delivers the highest 15K HDD performance in the industry. Continued Demand for Performance Enterprise Hard Disk Drives
Based on IDC industry data and customer feedback, HGST is seeing that by 2016, the Performance Enterprise (15K and 10K) HDD Total Available Market (TAM) will be more than two times the unit size of the Enterprise SSD TAM. Also, with many customers supporting both new and legacy systems, the 15K Ultrastar C15K600 family will be offered in 512e, 512n and 4K Advanced Format.
