Urgency Driving Wi-Fi Deployments, Show New Customer Wins for Aptilo
MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS - BARCELONA, February 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
There's a new urgency among operators to deploy Wi-Fi in ways that expand service
areas quickly, lower operating costs and leverage non-traditional partnerships to generate
new revenue and business opportunities, as evidenced by several recent customer wins for
Aptilo Networks [http://www.aptilo.com ], the leading provider of carrier-class Wi-Fi
service management and offloading solutions.
"These deployments reveal several trends we're seeing in Wi-Fi deployments," said
Aptilo CEO Torbjorn Ward. They are:
Leveraging Third-Party Wi-Fi Footprint Through Wholesale Operator
A tier-1 European mobile operator selected the Aptilo Service Management Platform(TM)
to enable carrier-class Wi-Fi services through a third-party network. The utilization of a
third-party Wi-Fi footprint through a Wi-Fi wholesale operator lowers the barriers further
for creating a carrier-class Wi-Fi service with a very fast time-to-market.
Wi-Fi Managed Service for Operators
That mobile operator is also using the Aptilo Managed Service(TM), providing a
high-availability architecture including geographic redundancy. "We're seeing a
significant increase in Managed Service, including cloud-based Wi-Fi deployments," said
Ward. "It allows the mobile network operator to offer carrier-class Wi-Fi without the
investment in equipment, training and maintenance."
Cable Multi-System Operators (MSOs) Increasing Involvement in Wi-Fi
MSOs are leveraging Wi-Fi as a strategic asset to add new subscribers and reduce
churn. MSOs are also starting to sell Wi-Fi network capacity to other operators, including
mobile operators, for mobile data offloading.
Aptilo is working with a major cable multi-system operator (MSO) in the United States
to enable carrier-class Wi-Fi services. The MSO will utilize Aptilo's advanced portal and
business-to-business (B2B) service delivery capabilities to monetize and sell services to
multi-dwelling property owners. The MSO's subscribers will also get access to the Wi-Fi
service through an additional SSID at many other locations that have the same Wi-Fi
service. These homespots a perfect tool for customer retention in the highly competitive
broadband market.
Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) Embrace Wi-Fi
A European MVNO is using Wi-Fi to complement 3G/4G network access to provide better
indoor access, thanks to Aptilo's carrier Wi-Fi
[http://www.aptilo.com/carrier-class-wi-fi/service-provider-wifi-hotspot20 ] solutions. The
MVNO is using Aptilo's mobile data offloading solution to compliment the 3G/4G mobile data
traffic by adding Wi-Fi footprint through a third-party carrier Wi-Fi network. The MVNO
will additionally build its own Wi-Fi footprint at specific locations.
Aging Systems Being Replaced
Outdated first-generation Wi-Fi hotspot systems are starting to take a toll on
operators, and as a result many are seeking replacements to aging service management
platforms. Aptilo recently replaced an outdated Wi-Fi hotspot system for a European mobile
operator as part of an end-to-end solution implemented by one of Aptilo's major
go-to-market partners, providing next-generation carrier Wi-Fi services.
B2B: Selling Wi-Fi to Other Businesses
Service providers are tapping business-to-business opportunities when developing Wi-Fi
offerings by making their services attractive to venue owners. They tailor the service to
the specific needs of different industry verticals, making businesses Wi-Fi partners
rather than Wi-Fi customers. One example is a new Aptilo installation with a European
hospitality solutions provider using Aptilo SMP to deliver a cloud-based hospitality Wi-Fi
service to hundreds of hotels in its customer base.
"B2B Wi-Fi services are a crucial component for monetization of Wi-Fi," said Ward. "In
addition, these services facilitate site acquisition for their Wi-Fi footprint, one of the
major challenges facing operators that are used to renting space for their base stations.
In the Wi-Fi business it is all about selling services to venue owners."

IBM Cloud enables digital music pioneer to improve performance and scale to meet changes in demand for its mobile game
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Music Mastermind has deployed a hybrid cloud solution consisting of IBM's SoftLayer cloud service and iDataPlex systems enabling the technology startup to quickly scale its high-value cloud infrastructure when demand for its mobile game spikes.
Music Mastermind's flagship product is Zya, a first-of-its-kind mobile game that allows fans to create and share original songs as they navigate their path to music stardom. The game's cloud platform combines elements of interactive entertainment, music production tools, and social interaction. In doing so, it gives players the ability to create new songs, mash-up world-famous hits or combine elements of both to create music that is uniquely their own.
With support from IBM's SoftLayer(®) and iDataPlex, Zya is currently available in 155 countries. To enable consistent, high-quality delivery and deployment of the game to customers around the world, Music Mastermind requires a robust, globally dispersed cloud infrastructure for its active users, hosting and application development.
Successfully preparing for and deploying new mobile applications requires startups to think past the initial release and focus on managing increasing demand and unexpected spikes in traffic. In order to do so, Music Mastermind, with the help of IBM Business Partner Micro Strategies, installed IBM's iDataPlex high performance servers into its data centers in San Jose, CA and Ashburn, VA, not only to host the app and meet initial demand, but also to house regular application development for Zya.
Each center's cloud is used to create 160 virtual instances, supporting an estimated 250,000 active users. To help manage the mounting data volumes generated by its rapidly expanding user base, the company also uses the IBM Storwize V7000 Unified storage system. The high-end disk system manages the company's databases as well as provisioning for its Zya mobile game.

"Because we created Zya to reach music lovers all over the world, we needed it to be able to scale quickly, meeting global traffic demands while still maintaining strong bandwidth to deploy new features and continually enrich the player's experience," said Matt Serletic, co-founder/CEO of Music Mastermind. "Using IBM's cloud solution has given us the capacity to grow, scale and host our networks in their most appropriate environments, freeing up extraneous expenses and labor that we can devote to ongoing innovation."
The openness of SoftLayer's cloud platform was also a significantdraw. Based on OpenStack, IBM's open standards-based cloud approach offers born on the webdevelopers the interoperability and collaboration important for growth. With more than 500 developers dedicated to building and growing open standards, IBM's dedication to open technologies and work with Cloud Foundry and OpenStack is continuing to elevate software standards to become more secure, interoperable and scalable as businesses grow, such as the recently released standard Havana.
"SoftLayer's cloud platform gives developers greater interoperability and collaboration which is important for growth," said Nathan Day, chief scientist for SoftLayer. "In addition, IBM has committed more than 500 developers who are dedicated to building and growing open standards. IBM's dedication to open technologies and work with Cloud Foundry and OpenStack is continuing to elevate software standards to become more secure, interoperable and scalable as businesses grow, such as the recently released standard Havana."

TCL Multimedia Announces a Major Strategic Transformation
Focuses on "intelligence + internet" and "products + services" as the future direction of transformation
Targets to become a global multimedia entertainment technology enterprise
HONG KONG, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Multimedia" or "the Group", HKSE stock code: 01070), TCL Corporation, its controlling parent company, and its sister company TCL Communication jointly announced in Shenzhen today a new strategy of business transformation under the era of new internet economy. The Group will undergo a major transformation that focuses primarily on a "double plus" strategy which includes "intelligence + internet" and "products + services" as the main direction, shifting from the previous product-oriented focus to a user-oriented focus and gradually transforming from a traditional TV manufacturer into a global multimedia entertainment technology enterprise.
The core values of the "double plus" strategy include "grasping opportunities arisen from digital media devices with a user-oriented focus", "establishing a new business model of product + services" and "leveraging O2O to rebuild the online and offline business platforms to become a pioneer in the internet-oriented landscape". TCL Corporation's 5-year target aims at becoming a major global manufacturer of smart terminal devices, seeking to become a global top 3 in smart TVs and smart phones; accumulating a clientele of up to 100 million household users + 100 million mobile users; deriving 50% of its profit from each of products and services, respectively; growing more corporate value than sales revenue. "Intelligence + internet" refers to smart products and services evolved from internet thinking, offering ultimate experiences and driving a major transformation of the Group in the areas of technologies and operations. Meanwhile, "products + services" refers to an innovative business model in the internet era, driving a major transformation on the business model at the corporate level, eventually establishing an open, collaborative and integrated business process and organizational systems serving needs of the strategic transformation.
The overall growth of the global television industry is expected to slow down with intensifying competition in 2014. It is evident that the television industry is becoming intelligence-oriented. Competition in the industry shifts from pure product features to positioning of the products in an intelligent eco-system. Mr. Li Dongsheng, Chairman of TCL Multimedia said, "It is essential that traditional home appliance enterprises undergo a transformation of their business models. Firstly, as far as the market is concerned, saturated demand amidst growing production capacity intensified the price competition among enterprises; secondly, with the industry, maturity of basic functions of hardware created a gridlock to development of the consumer electronics industry due to homogeneity of product functionalities; thirdly, faced with cross-industry competition from internet enterprises, the introduction of new business models has brought about challenges to the profitability of traditional home appliances enterprises. In view of the above, TCL will completely abandon the traditions by adopting the internet thinking, and establish the new business model by implementing the "double plus" strategy, seeking to achieve a breakthrough in the strategic transformation in the internet era."
Under the new three-year strategies, the Group will leverage its existing advantages on hardware and services to provide a new business model on "products + user" and develop a new business model of "hardware + software + contents + services", which will establish a product-driven structure with an emphasis on market insights, internet-oriented layout and brand globalization. Hence, through channel restructuring, establishment of an O2O platform, improvements on the supply chain, efficiency enhancements will be realized. Meanwhile, the Group will pursue intelligent operations based on entertainment. With an emphasis on user experiences, the Group will continue to optimize its product portfolios of smart TVs and 4K Ultra high-definition TVs, building an all-in-one smart terminal product line integrating "platforms, contents, terminal and applications" which provides users with comprehensive entertainment solution. Meanwhile, it will also proactively kick off development of its game businesses, vigorously develop operating platforms, strengthen its cooperation with Huan TV, Open and TCL Communication under TCL Group and proactively cooperate with third parties in integrating resources.
Mr. Li Dongsheng said, "As the competition landscape of internet TV becomes clearer, opportunities will emerge for TCL Multimedia in initiating transformations. The year 2014 will be critical for transformation of the TV industry. In light of this, we will adopt a new transformation strategy and internet thinking, while striving to provide multimedia products and services that exceed users' expectations, with an aim to become a global multimedia entertainment technology enterprise."

Enterprise NAND from Toshiba Addresses Need for High Endurance, High Performance Required by Datacenters, Cloud Computing Applications
IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, knows that when it comes to storage architecture, enterprises require a different set of features than consumers - namely higher performance, improved endurance and power efficiency. For datacenter applications - including cloud computing, caching, datacenters, and database applications - data accessibility and speed are the name of the game.
In a recently released video, the third in a series titled "Memory Design Insights" that takes viewers inside memory design issues with straight talk from Toshiba's memory experts, Doug Wong, senior member of TAEC's technical staff, details the advantages that NAND flash brings to the datacenter. These advantages include more write/erase cycles compared to conventional MLC NAND and shorter read latency, higher performance, reduced footprints and lowered storage management and administration costs when compared to HDD (hard disk drive)-based systems.
Designed for the intense, constantly evolving demands of the enterprise, Toshiba's two families of enterprise NAND are eSLC (from 64 Gb-256 Gb) and eMLC (from 128 Gb-512 Gb)([1]). When compared to standard consumer MLC devices, these enterprise NAND offerings bring extended endurance (extended write/erase cycles), and longer product life. Both families use a Toggle Mode NAND flash interface, which employs a double data rate transfer.
According to Wong, "Five years ago, 'Enterprise NAND' did not exist. Realizing that these data-hungry applications would eventually need high-performing storage solutions that also provided extended endurance, we created a line of NAND solutions with these needs in mind. Today, the benefits of enterprise NAND can be clearly seen - including high speed data streaming and internet access. Toshiba will continue to anticipate future needs when developing our NAND solutions - to enable a better connected world."

Logicalis US Combines Single-Tenant IaaS with Managed Services in New Offering, The Logicalis Dedicated Cloud
Solution Provider Marries the Benefits of a Public Cloud with the Security and Peace of Mind of a Private Cloud
NEW YORK, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- There's a fundamental shift taking place in the way businesses consume technology today. The kinds of as-a-service solutions that appeared on the horizon just a short while ago have now merged with a portfolio of managed services that provide technologically advanced and cost-effective alternatives that give clients a competitive edge. Today, Logicalis US, an international IT solutions and managed services provider (http://www.us.logicalis.com), announced such a solution: the Logicalis Dedicated Cloud, a single-tenant, highly secure cloud service. The new service, consumed as an operational expense rather than a capital expense, combines the best aspects of Infrastructure as a Service with those of a managed services environment to deliver all of the benefits of a public cloud with the security and peace of mind of a private cloud.
The Logicalis Dedicated Cloud is a hosted private cloud that can be tailored to meet clients' specific needs while complying with many government and industry regulations. The solution is ideal for testing, disaster recovery, or mission-critical business applications, offering tech-hungry organizations best-in-class performance and availability without placing uncomfortable burdens on their IT staff or budget.
While most organizations say they are heading toward the cloud, not all have an IT infrastructure that is ready to support the cloud in house. To help CIOs determine where they are along the way, Logicalis has created a blueprint to guide customers from a component-based architecture along a roadmap that includes virtualization, protection services, automation and orchestration, and finally, the cloud. This IT Transformation Journey gives IT pros a good benchmark to gauge where they are today and where they want their IT department to be tomorrow. In some cases, this means continuing along the path until the company is ready to create and manage a private cloud in house or to adopt a hybrid cloud infrastructure. For others, it means looking for ways to take advantage of the cloud and what it has to offer now, creating the opportunity for trusted public cloud and managed service providers like Logicalis to deliver a new kind of dedicated, hosted private cloud solution as a service.
"There are a number of options available to customers today in the way they consume cloud services," says Kevin Gruneisen, Senior Director, Data Center Solutions. "Our customers have told us that they want the ability to combine the best of both worlds - a public infrastructure-as-a-service cloud delivery model that gives them the ability to consume cloud services on-demand as an operational expense combined with the security and privacy normally available only through a single-tenant, on-premise private cloud infrastructure that carries with it a significantly higher capital expense to build those capabilities in house. With the Logicalis Dedicated Cloud, we've created a hosted single-tenant infrastructure-as-a-service cloud that looks and feels like a private, on-premise cloud without the up-front capital outlay. What this means is that companies whose in-house IT infrastructures are not yet ready for the cloud can take advantage of the cloud's capabilities now while they grow their internal IT resources in the directions that make the most technical and business sense over time."
Five Business Benefits
1. Cost: The Logicalis Dedicated Cloud provides access to the most current
cloud technology, wrapping licensing fees for operating systems and
applications into a manageable operational expense while also reducing
IT's management responsibility, freeing key team members to focus on
strategic, business-critical tasks.
2. Security and Compliance: The Logicalis Dedicated Cloud offers secure
cloud computing within a dedicated environment based on ITIL v3 best
practices.
3. Performance: The solution enables rapid provisioning of compute memory,
bandwidth and disk space, helping to speed implementation while also
allowing for customization to personalize the environment. The Logicalis
Dedicated Cloud meets fluctuating processing needs with scalable,
virtualized hardware, protects the service with seamless updates, and

Logicalis engineers.
4. Reliability: Backed by stringent service level agreements, the service
offers multiple layers of redundancy to make hardware failures
inconsequential and preserves accessibility during emergencies with a
separate, remote data center for disaster recovery.
5. Managed Services: Because the solution is managed by Logicalis engineers,
the CIO's internal IT team is free to focus on more strategic,
business-building goals, costs are kept in check, and the IT team still
has complete control over their solution's dedicated hardware and
management services. Compliance with government and industry regulations
and attention to security make The Logicalis Dedicated Cloud uniquely
suited to the needs of a variety of vertical markets.

Tektronix Delivers Integration Breakthrough Offering Six Instruments in One Oscilloscope
MDO3000 the Only Integrated Oscilloscope with a Spectrum Analyzer - Starting at $3,350
BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, today announced the MDO3000 Series of Mixed Domain Oscilloscopes. The ultimate integrated oscilloscope that includes a spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer, protocol analyzer, arbitrary function generator and digital voltmeter, the MDO3000 clears the design bench of costly, specialized equipment and provides the tools needed to test and debug virtually any embedded design. In addition, Tektronix has developed the MDO3000 to be completely customizable enabling customers to select the functionality and performance needed now  Â-- and later.
With the complexity of modern embedded designs coupled with the growth of wireless, it has become increasingly costly to give designers all the tools they need for efficient debug and troubleshooting. The MDO3000 fundamentally changes the rules by offering the functionality of six independent instruments without the significant cost of separate instruments.
"The case for integrated, multi-instrument oscilloscopes is extremely compelling on multiple levels," said Dave Farrell general manager, Mainstream Oscilloscopes at Tektronix. "In addition to cost savings, the MDO3000 saves space on the engineer's bench, improves usability with the same basic controls for multiple instruments and ensures engineers always have access to all the instruments they need. There's no need to track down a spectrum analyzer or function generator when it's already built into your scope."
The only oscilloscope with an integrated spectrum analyzer, starting at $3,350
Recent research shows over 25% of oscilloscope users now use a spectrum analyzer multiple times per week(1), and over 40% of embedded design projects include some form of wireless capability(2). As the world's only oscilloscope with a built-in spectrum analyzer, the MDO3000 Series is uniquely positioned to address this paradigm shift for today's designers. Now engineers can access both time domain and frequency domain analysis in a single instrument. When compared to both standalone oscilloscopes and basic spectrum analyzers in this class, the MDO3000 Mixed Domain Oscilloscope provides best-in-class performance and features, providing the convenience of a single instrument without performance trade-offs.
Fully upgradeable platform
With the MDO3000 Series, engineers can start with the minimum performance and functional levels they need to accomplish the project at hand with the knowledge that their test platform can be upgraded in the field without delay. Performance upgrades include analog bandwidth of the oscilloscope and input frequency of the spectrum analyzer. Functional upgrades include the addition of digital channels, protocol analysis, arbitrary function generation or digital voltmeter measurements.
6 Instruments, 1 Oscilloscope, Infinite Versatility
The MDO3000 Series oscilloscopes feature 2 or 4 analog input channels with bandwidth ranging from 100 MHz to 1 GHz, 16 digital channels (optional) and one RF input channel matching the bandwidth of the oscilloscope (9 kHz up to analog bandwidth). The RF input frequency on any model can be extended to 3 GHz.
Based on the MSO/DPO3000 Mixed Signal Oscilloscope Series, the MDO3000 provides industry leading debug functionality. With the new FastAcq(TM) feature, the MDO3000 oscilloscopes offer a more than 280,000 waveforms per second capture rate displayed on a vibrant digital phosphor display for easily finding infrequent anomalies in a signal. More than 125 available trigger combinations, automated serial and parallel bus analysis, innovative Wave Inspector controls, and optional automated power measurements round out the feature-set, and ensure comprehensive tools for every stage of debug. This functionality is extended with the addition of 9 optional serial protocol analysis packages - I(2)C, SPI, RS-232, USB 2.0, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, MIL-STD-1553, and Audio.
The integrated, optional 50 MHz AFG functionality is more than two times faster than competitive offerings with eight times the arbitrary waveform record length. While the integrated digital voltmeter (DVM) provides 4-digit AC RMS, DC, or AC+DC RMS voltage measurements, as well as 5-digit frequency measurements in a large, easy-to-read display that makes changes in your readings instantly visible. The DVM feature is available free of charge when an MDO3000 product is registered.
Adding to the value story, MDO3000 instruments are the first in the industry to offer 3.9 pF passive voltage probing on instruments with a starting price of $3,350. For higher speed applications, 1 GHz passive voltage probes are offered standard with 1 GHz instruments - the only in the industry. These low capacitance probes minimize the impact on devices under test while reducing signal distortion and cleanly passing the signal to the oscilloscope for measurement.
"The trend toward integrated instrumentation is one that we plan to embrace wholeheartedly. We can now give our engineers the full set of tools they need while lowering overall cost of ownership," said Scott Ausborn, test engineer supervisor, Logitech, UE. "But what makes the MDO3000 particularly attractive is the integrated spectrum analyzer. Wireless is showing up in more products every day, and EMI challenges come up regularly, so having a spectrum analyzer tightly integrated into our scopes isn't just a nice to have, it's becoming a core requirement."
Pricing & Availability
MDO3000 oscilloscopes are available now worldwide. Prices range from $3,350 US MSRP for starter instruments to $18,650 US MSRP providing 1 GHz, 4-channel oscilloscope with AFG, MSO, and 3 GHz spectrum analyzer frequency range. Similar standalone instrumentation would cost more than $27,500 US MSRP.

Tektronix Drives Dramatic Shift in Mainstream Oscilloscope Market
With Pricing and Line-up Changes, RF-Capable Oscilloscopes Replace Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes for General Purpose Testing
BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, today announced that its MDO4000B Series of Mixed Domain Oscilloscopes are now available at the same price point as MSO4000B Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes. Unlike any other oscilloscopes from any other manufacturer in the world, the Tektronix Mixed Domain Oscilloscopes (MDO) include a built-in spectrum analyzer along with 4 analog channels and 16 digital signal inputs -- with the MDO4000B Series enabling engineers to capture synchronized analog, digital and RF signals for a complete, time-correlated system view, saving days or even weeks of debug time.
The vast majority of system designs in production or in development today include at least one form of wireless capability such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or ZigBee. From input devices like mice and keyboards to smart homes and streaming media boxes, consumers demand the convenience of wireless. With RF becoming so mainstream, designers in response expect superior RF test support from their test equipment. Even for designs without wireless technologies, engineers are facing EMI, noise, modulation and other types of frequency related signals. Now, for the same price as an MSO without spectrum analyzer capability, engineers can purchase a single instrument that meets the vast majority of their test and measurement requirements, including RF test and debug.
"There's a fundamental shift with regard to wireless in embedded systems. With RF technologies so established and affordable, they are becoming as accepted and widely used as serial data was a few years ago," said Dave Farrell, general manager, Mainstream Oscilloscopes at Tektronix. "In addition, with digital signals increasing in speed, the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) has become a common problem requiring looking at the RF spectrum of even non-wireless systems. Just as MSOs have replaced analog-only oscilloscopes, it follows that MDOs are the next logical evolution and are becoming the accepted mainstream industry standard."
Under the new pricing structure, Tektronix is offering MDO4000B-3 models with a built-in 3 GHz spectrum analyzer at the same prices as current MSO4000B oscilloscopes with equivalent analog bandwidth across the entire lineup. Given identical pricing, there is no reason for designers to purchase MSO models, even if they don't have an immediate need for RF capability. Further, there is a strong likelihood they will need RF measurements at some point, saving thousands of dollars in future expense for a spectrum analyzer. With this change, Tektronix will be discontinuing** the MSO4000B oscilloscopes. For customers who require 6 GHz frequency coverage, Tektronix has lowered prices on its MDO4000B-6 Series by ~15% making performance even more affordable.
Underscoring the shift to mixed domain oscilloscopes, Tektronix today also expanded its range of offerings with the MDO3000 series (see separate announcement). The MDO3000 brings the ability to capture analog, digital and RF signals to a lower price point, making it an ideal entry level general purpose instrument. For more advanced debug and troubleshooting, the MDO4000B offers more scope performance and functionality such as synchronized acquisition of all signals including RF.
MDO4000B Product Details
In addition to 4 analog and 16 digital inputs, the MDO4000B-3 oscilloscopes provide a 3 GHz maximum frequency spectrum analyzer across all MDO models from 100 MHz to 1 GHz scope bandwidth. Additionally the MDO models offer all features and options offered with the MSO4000B series. For applications that require higher frequency coverage, new pricing for the Tektronix MDO4000B-6 oscilloscopes that provide a 6 GHz spectrum analyzer is now equivalent to previous pricing of the 3 GHz spectrum analyzer models.
Introduced in August 2011, the Tektronix mixed domain oscilloscopes have gone on to win more than a dozen industry innovation awards and continue to be the only oscilloscope with an integrated spectrum analyzer that can capture time-correlated analog, digital and RF signals for a complete system view of a user's device. Engineers using MDO4000s report significant gains in debug productivity coupled with the versatility and technical capability they need to tackle a wide range of test challenges. Available analog bandwidth ranges from 100 MHz to 1 GHz with 2.5 or 5 GS/s sample rate and 20 Mpoints record length.
Pricing & Availability
MDO4000B-3 and MDO4000B-6 oscilloscopes are available now worldwide. Pricing starts at $9,500 US MSRP.
** For customers with existing MSO models integrated into systems or special requirements, select MSO4000B models will remain available to support these distinct needs.

Dominate The Decisive Moment, Again: The Nikon D4S HD-SLR Is The Formidable Fusion Of Speed And Accuracy
Nikon's Flagship D-SLR is the Evolution of a Masterpiece, Reinforcing Nikon as the Choice of Pro Photographers and Multimedia Creators
MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Announced today, the new Nikon D4S establishes itself as the premier HD-SLR available to professionals; unrivaled with its combination of incredible speed, accuracy, low-light performance and exceptional image fidelity. Designed for the most demanding photographers and multimedia professionals in the world, the Nikon D4S improves upon the revered D4 to give users enhanced image and video quality, improved autofocus (AF), faster performance during and after capture in addition to an astonishing ISO range.
Nikon's D series of flagship cameras continues to push the boundaries of professional image quality, speed and features. The newly developed 16.2-megapixel FX-format sensor works in conjunction with the new EXPEED 4 image processing engine to deliver new levels of still and HD video quality and performance. A new Group AF function and overall improvements build upon Nikon's proven 51-point AF system, while the camera breaks convention with an ISO range that goes to an incredible 409,600 ISO (Hi-4) for maximum versatility in nearly any lighting condition. Overall speed and response is also enhanced, capturing full resolution at an astounding 11 frames-per-second (fps) with auto focus and auto exposure (AE), while benefiting from an overall 30% increase in processing power.
"By announcing the development of the new Nikon D4S earlier this year, Nikon has been able to work openly with professional photographers in the field to hone the cameras' core capabilities into an unparalleled tool that makes otherwise impossible images a reality," said Masahiro Horie, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc. "The challenges of today's professional multimedia photographer go beyond simply capturing amazing content. After the shutter clicks, the workflow enhancements that the D4S provides will give Nikon users an obvious edge in the stands, the studio, on the sidelines or in the field."
Extreme Speed and Accuracy Give the Edge in the Field
Whether shooting extreme action sports or elusive wildlife, the Nikon D4S has been engineered to be the ultimate combination of speed and accuracy, giving photographers the power to capture even the fastest moving, unpredictable subjects with confidence and control. The proven Multi-CAM 3500 FX AF sensor module's thoroughly recalibrated AF algorithms quickly zero in on its intended target-- no matter how near, far, or abruptly a subject appears in the frame. Additionally, the D4S includes a new innovative Group AF mode. When selected, this mode utilizes five AF points to provide increased stability while tracking subjects, and enhanced accuracy by reducing instances of background focus. In situations where the background is bright with strong contrasting colors, photographers can now feel more confident, knowing that small, distant and fast-moving objects can be rendered sharper, faster and more frequently. Nikon's AF Lock-on technology is also upgraded, shortening time in reverting from focus interruptions, such as a referee running into the frame.
Hundredths of a second can make the difference when capturing the decisive shot that graces the front page, the double-truck spread, or the client's mantel. With this in mind, the Nikon D4S also improves tracking on high-speed continuous shooting at a blazing fast 11 fps, with continuous AF/AE. Because missing the shot is just not an option, Nikon's EXPEED 4 plays an integral role in the D4S' seemingly instantaneous response and swift performance, while enhancing energy efficiency. The camera now features a processing time that is a full 30% faster, in addition to a 200-shot buffer (JPEG) at full resolution at the maximum continuous mode.
As a proven flagship for the world's most demanding photographers, the D4S retains the features that made its predecessor the professional's choice in the first place. The Nikon D4S HD-SLR aligns 15 cross-type sensors in the center to detect contrast data in both vertical and horizontal planes. In addition to detecting each AF-NIKKOR lens with an aperture of f/5.6 or lower, the camera also utilizes nine cross-type sensors that are fully functional when using compatible NIKKOR lenses and a teleconverter with a combined aperture value up to f/8, a great advantage to those photographing sports and wildlife from extreme distances.
The Advantage of Superior Image Quality
At the core of the Nikon D4S is a newly developed 16.2-megapixel FX-format CMOS Sensor (36 x 23.9mm), engineered to deliver an immersive dynamic range, with exceptionally low noise. This newly developed image sensor works in tandem with the latest generation of Nikon's powerful image processing engine, dubbed EXPEED 4, to bolster image quality, color and sharpness in both stills and video. The benefits of EXPEED 4 go well beyond high-speed image processing to provide evolved real time noise reduction, along with depth and clarity gradation rendering. The resulting images exhibit a wide tonal range, with true and faithful colors.
Thanks in part to the new EXPEED 4 processing engine, the Nikon D4S now shatters the perception of what's possible with available light photography, giving users a native ISO range from 100-25,600 expandable from 50 ISO (Lo-1) to a staggering 409,600 ISO (Hi-4). This amazing ISO range rewrites the rulebook for available-light shooting, and is especially useful for professional sports shooters, photojournalists, as well as military and law enforcement agencies. The powerful EXPEED 4 image-processing engine incorporates an entirely new algorithm for even higher ISO noise reduction and color fidelity, resulting in an enhanced overall sharpness and clarity without sacrificing subtle textures and luminous details. The enhanced ISO is also a major advantage for other professionals including wedding and portrait photographers, who can now confidently capture the darkest reception, a candlelit ceremony, or create crisp studio portraits with flawless fidelity.
Other advanced Nikon technologies also contribute to the superior image quality of the Nikon D4S, including a new enhanced standard Picture Control tone curve that gives greater depth and clearer color rendition, especially on skin tones. For additional versatility, users have the ability to toggle Face Detect AF on or off while shooting through the viewfinder, and white balance calculation has been further refined for accuracy, while spot white balance is employed for easier presetting with more options.
Nikon's exclusive 91,000-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix Metering III system returns on the D4S to help capture true-to-life colors while solving the most challenging exposures, from sun-lit snow to stadium lighting. The system works by meticulously analyzing the variables within each scene and recognizing factors such as color and brightness values with unprecedented exactness. This data is then interpreted and compared against the camera's on-board database to implement various settings, resulting in vibrant images with faithful color reproduction and balanced exposure.
Faster Workflow During and After Capture
While shooting speed and response matter in the moment, workflow speed has become increasingly important in a more competitive landscape. The D4S delivers upon the need for that speed with features that are engineered for today's professional:
-- New RAW SIZE S files: In addition to shooting JPEG, full size RAW (NEF)
and TIFF files, the Nikon D4S also has a new file setting to enhance
workflow, RAW SIZE S. This setting allows for shooting 12-bit
uncompressed Nikon NEF files that are approximately half the size (2464
x 1640) of standard uncompressed RAW files and are more easily
manageable--speeding up the entire workflow process.
-- Faster transfer rate: When connected via LAN, users can now transmit
files using Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Base-T LAN). This significant
decrease in transfer times means more time to shoot, and less time
transmitting files.
-- Improved battery life: Despite its processing power, the D4S is
remarkably power-efficient. With the addition of a new EN-EL18a
Lithium-Ion battery, the D4S can easily outlast the action with up 3,020
(CIPA rating) shots in single mode and 5,960 shots (Nikon testing) in
continuous mode.
-- Dual card slots: The D4S uses both CF cards as well as the super-fast
XQD card format to achieve the fastest possible transfer and write
times.
Video Features Fit for the Modern Production Environment
With an increase in potent processing power, the D4S ups the ante when it comes to multimedia workflow and content capture. A versatile tool on location or on set, the D4S offers enhanced video quality and video-friendly features, in a compact and lightweight HD-SLR form factor. In addition to the innovative video attributes from the D4, the D4S offers the following new features:
-- Full HD video in variable frame rates: Users have the choice of various
resolutions and frame rates, including a new 1080/60p option for
increased flexibility in post. Users can also shoot at 1080 30p or a
cinematic 24p, as well as various other NTSC and PAL frame rates and
resolutions. By utilizing the B-Frame data compression method, users can
record H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC format video with unmatched integrity for up
to 29:59 minutes per clip.
-- Selectable image area: Users now have the ability to select an image
area in Live View mode to match the glass or shooting style. To best
suit the scene, FX, DX (1.5x) and 2.7x cropping is available.
-- Expanded ISO range for video and auto ISO control: D4S' FX-format image
sensor and EXPEED 4 work hand-in-hand to render a natural transition
between bright and dark scenes, all while delivering rich tones, sharp
edges and minimized noise, even at high ISOs. The D-Movie mode has a
wide standard ISO range -- from 200 to 25,600 to shoot in nearly any
lighting. Furthermore, the ISO can be pushed up to an ISO 409,600 (Hi-4)
equivalent. Additionally, D4S lets you maintain manual exposure for
controlled shutter speeds and aperture settings while the camera
automatically dictates the ISO maximum sensitivity from 400 to Hi-4. For
assignments with dramatic shifts in lighting, this can be a remarkably
useful tool.
-- Uncompressed 1080 60p: For the purest video quality, the D4S allows
direct output of uncompressed files via HDMI. Output can be recorded to
an optional outboard digital video recorder, making for an efficient
editing workflow.
-- Manual control: Like the D4 HD-SLR, D4S offers full manual control when
shooting video for maximum creative versatility.
-- Simultaneous recording: When recording to an external digital recorder
via HDMI, the D4S can now simultaneously write to the CF or XQD card.
This function is ideal for creating backups and recording while
live-streaming content.
-- Improved sound: The range of audio frequency is now selectable, with
options such as Wide Range and Voice Range. Wind noise reduction and
audio levels can be changed during recording.
-- Smoother exposure transition during time-lapse and interval-time
shooting: Creating breathtaking time-lapse movies is even easier with
the D4S. The camera renders exposure transitions with unprecedented
smoothness. Such scenes have been difficult to capture in manual or auto
exposure mode, but now users can apply an auto exposure to achieve
professional-grade time-lapse and interval-time shooting.
-- NIKKOR lens compatibility: The highest caliber optics are vital to
creating HD images and Nikon is the world leader in optics manufacturing
with a legacy spanning more than 80 years. Nikon has a vast NIKKOR lens
system, with more than 80 lenses including 65 FX-format lenses with a
variety of focal lengths and features, including VR vibration reduction.
Pro Grade Construction and Controls
As a flagship camera for professionals, the D4S is engineered to excel in the world's toughest environments, while giving pros the features needed to get the shot. The shutter has been tested to 400,000 cycles, and the camera chassis is constructed of lightweight and durable magnesium alloy. Additionally, the camera is sealed and gasketed from moisture, dust and electromagnetic interference to resist the elements.
While shooting, users will appreciate a slightly modified control layout and ergonomics for faster and more comfortable shooting. Subtle changes increase grip and comfort, making the camera easier to hold for a wider range of hand sizes and more comfortable during prolonged use. Photographers will also benefit from composing through a bright viewfinder with 100% coverage. The D4S also features a newly designed mirror-moving mechanism, which uniformly and effectively absorbs mirror slap to minimize viewfinder blackout time. Even at 11 fps, this innovation makes it easier to track a fast subject through the optical viewfinder.
The wide and bright high-resolution 921k dot, 3.2-inch LCD screen of the Nikon D4S lets users easily change menu settings, compose and review images. Photographers have the ability to customize the color of the LCD monitor to better match studio monitors or personal preference. Additionally, the LCD monitor retains its auto-brightness function that automatically adjusts the brightness of the monitor to increase visibility and conserve battery life.
Price and Availability
The Nikon D4S HD-SLR will be available March 6, 2014 for a suggested retail price* (SRP) of $6499.95*.

BloomReach Reinvents Personalized Site Discovery For Every Visitor On Any Device
Big Data Application Gives Marketers and Merchants Unprecedented Insights With First Integrated Approach To Search, Navigation and Personalization
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BloomReach, creators of the leading big-data marketing applications, today launched BloomReach Search, Navigation and Personalization (SNAP), a smart application that personalizes site discovery for all consumers on any device or channel in real-time. In addition, BloomReach SNAP exposes its big-data insights to marketers and merchants so that they can drive more revenue and better site-wide consumer engagement.
For consumers, BloomReach SNAP connects user experiences anonymously as they shop across devices, and then dynamically adapts sites' search, navigation and content uniquely to each visitor. Using the industry's most sophisticated web-search algorithms, it combines behavioral patterns, natural-language processing, machine-learning and other signals of intent to instinctively present the most relevant search results, left-navigation and contextual filters.
BloomReach SNAP functions autonomously and learns from all visits, but allows marketers and merchants to make data-driven decisions that enhance and teach the smart machine using a rich set of analytics and visual controls. This big-data-driven approach represents a paradigm shift for marketers, who typically have used extensive manual processes to adjust sites for specific business objectives. While BloomReach SNAP can optimize a site for each consumer's behavior, merchants can make sure that specific pages or products are always or more easily discovered regardless of consumer queries. Without logging on to multiple site-management applications, BloomReach SNAP presents them with real-time data such as revenue per visit (RPV), conversions or other metrics site-wide that give the marketers insights into how to drive more revenue.
Unlike other onsite and personalization applications that mirror early internet search technology with manual tags, rules and hierarchies, BloomReach SNAP uses the industry's most powerful natural-language processor to extract and connect product attributes to the countless ways that consumers describe and discover online - learning from all channels, visitors and devices. Merchants can tailor the experience without writing extensive rules, manually tagging content or testing proscribed combinations for quality search results or "personalization."
BloomReach SNAP continuously interprets site content and web-wide demand to present new or return visitors with personalized search and navigation, while automatically refining the experience as visitor context changes in real-time.
In addition to today's launch, BloomReach also announced an expanded ecosystem partnership with International Business Machines (IBM), to natively integrate BloomReach SNAP with WebSphere Commerce as the premium, upgraded site search, navigation and personalization technology. The integration will be available in the coming months.
Why Personalization Matters:
1. Gartner predicts that by 2018, companies that have fully invested in all
types of online personalization will outsell that do not by more than 30
percent.
2. 60 percent of marketers note they struggle to personalize content in
real-time, yet 77 percent believe real-time personalization is crucial.
3. 75 percent of marketers say "dynamic, personalized content" across
channels is very important, but most are still in planning stages.
4. 55 percent of consumers think website recommendations based on their past
browsing and shopping behavior are "desirable to receive."
BloomReach SNAP is built on BloomReach's signature technology, the Web Relevance Engine, a smart machine that uses machine-learning and natural-language processing to synthesize understanding, intent and implications within a retailer's content, one billion consumer visits per week and one billion consumer interactions web-wide per day. Deb Shops and Sears Hometown and Outlet are the first customers of BloomReach SNAP.
"Engagement is central to driving our business online and off, and Sears Hometown and Outlet is committed to delivering the most relevant content to our customers, whether they search, browse or want recommendations on what to buy. We also recognize that consumers use different devices at every point in their path-to-purchase, and BloomReach SNAP gives us the ability to deliver real-time personalization while giving our merchants the data to inform their actions," said Donnie Franzen, director of e-commerce at Sears Hometown and Outlet. "Having the ability to respond to individual shoppers in real-time is essential to giving customers what they want quickly, while driving our bottom line."
How BloomReach SNAP Combines Smart Marketers with the Smart Machine:
1. Boost or Bury - Marketers and merchants can promote or demote products
based on real-time performance metrics.
2. Page Creation informed by data and WSYWIG editing - Create, curate and
manage category pages recommended by the machine or by merchants. Then,
customize for specific performance metrics or campaigns.
3. Goal-optimized site-search results - Create new category pages or
redirect queries to existing pages to optimize for specific goals like
relevance, revenue per visit and engagement.
What BloomReach SNAP Personalizes for Each Consumer:
1. Individual-centered experience -From content recommendations, search
results and the left-hand navigation and filters, the user experience
automatically adapts to the intent and preferences of each visitor.
2. Cross-device - Without visitor authentication, personalization elements
like previously viewed products, dynamic categories and more adapt and
learn from each visitor as they move across devices through their
individual path-to-purchase.
3. Consumer-driven discovery - Visitors visually browse similar products by
clicking "More Like This." Visitors get the most advanced
search-engine-like recommendations based on their observed tastes for
certain styles, sizes, brands and even sale items through "Just For You."
"Consumers' onsite experience should be as personal and as responsive as physically shopping in a well-designed store with a helpful staff. We built BloomReach SNAP to analyze and respond to every consumer interaction - ultimately connecting user experiences as they shop across devices," said Raj De Datta, co-founder and CEO of BloomReach. "At the same time, no one knows a business's objectives like its marketers and merchants, so we also developed tools that empower these experts to take data-driven actions to reach their goals."
About BloomReach

Global Navigation Satellite Receiver From Galileo Satellite Navigation Now Available on Cadence Tensilica ConnX DSP IP Cores
Demonstration available at the 2014 Mobile World Congress
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), a leader in global electronic design innovation, and Galileo Satellite Navigation, Ltd. (GSN), a developer of multi-system Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) products including software receiver technology, today announced that Galileo's software-based GNSS receiver is now available on Tensilica® ConnX DSP IP cores and is scheduled to be demonstrated at the Cadence booth in hall 6, stand 6L36, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 24-27, 2014.
The GSN GNSS receiver running on a Cadence ConnX BBE16 DSP consumes very little power - as low as 10mW of power on a 40nm process - and has the ability to work in lower rates, or "snap-shots" for ultra-low-power mobile scenarios. The solution delivers high sensitivity tracking, offering a seamless GNSS experience in challenging environments.
"GSN's software-based approach for satellite receivers perfectly complements Cadence® DSPs, taking maximum advantage of the flexibility of our DSP architecture," said Jack Guedj, corporate vice president of Research and Development at Cadence. "The availability of GSN's software on our ConnX BBE16 further reinforces the strength of our low-power programmable modem strategy for advanced communications."
"The Tensilica ConnX BBE16 DSP delivers outstanding performance for implementing our GNSS receivers and with a low-power footprint. This provides customers with the ability to easily upgrade their designs to include future satellite systems including Beidou, GLONASS, and Galileo via software," said Eli Ariel, CEO at GSN. "With no additional silicon costs and at a low cost of deployment, this software-based solution results in a very compelling approach to implement satellite navigation functionality in many products where it otherwise might be impractical."

Chemring Technology Solutions Demonstrates SmartSwitch's M2M Capability on Multi-Tech Platform
ROMSEY, England, February 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Hall 7, Stand 7C14, UKTI Pavilion, Mobile World Congress, Barcelona
At this year's Mobile World Congress, Chemring Technology Solutions
[http://www.chemringts.com ] will be demonstrating how SmartSwitch
[http://www.policyonthedevice.com ](TM) and Multi-Tech [http://www.multitech.com/en_US ]'s
M2M platform can enable network operators to maximise monetisation opportunities for next
generation apps, without impacting real-time service reliability.
The advanced policy engine in SmartSwitch(TM) supports M2M applications by
intelligently matching the priority of the data to a mobile network's preferred times
(such as a pre-defined off-peak schedule). This will maximise M2M system development
opportunities, such as telehealth or industrial applications, without congesting mobile
networks.
Ben Toner, Incubation manager at Chemring Technology Solutions, said: "To offer both
the mobile network and the user a real benefit, SmartSwitch(TM) can connect the needs of
the M2M application with the needs of the mobile network. It allows Multi-Tech's M2M
mobile devices to separate data into real-time and non-urgent classifications so that they
use the wireless service at a time when the data cost is lower for the end-user and
network less congested, enabling the operators to maximise service reliability."
Rod Landers, CEO of Multi-Tech, said: "I'm really excited to see this technology
getting deployed and we are very flattered that Chemring chose Multi-Tech's products to
demonstrate SmartSwitch(TM) at Mobile World Congress. We see this as an important tool for
M2M applications and network operators to more efficiently manage their traffic and costs
of service which will further accelerate growth in the Internet of Things."
SmartSwitch(TM) is the world's first true policy-on-the-device app that provides
enhanced subscriber engagement and connection management capability. It is optimised to
provide network operators with intelligent selective offload and traffic shaping, much of
which can be provided as a simple application delivered via an app store. Its unique
policy framework allows operators to choose between in-built traffic management solutions
for seamless and aggregated use of network technologies or to make use of native
functionality offered within the chipsets.
By using context aware conditions, an understanding of user preferences and
interaction with the billing platform, network and data management are brought to life. As
SmartSwitch(TM) is application aware, this also gives operators the ability to reduce
congestion in known problem coverage areas and ensure that traffic from value-added
applications is not lost.
