IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Alteryx, Inc., a leading provider of Strategic Analytics, today announced that it is working with its customer, Ansira, the first fully integrated customer engagement agency, to help companies leverage deep customer data, deliver behavioral insights, and maximize profitable interactions. The Alteryx Strategic Analytics platform helps build sophisticated analytics to drive marketing optimization, using data from any touch point including social media, in a fraction of the time required by alternative solutions.
In the report entitled, "Making Sense of a Chaotic CI Services Landscape," released November 29, 2011, Forrester Research, Inc. cited Ansira in an emerging class of providers called customer engagement agencies (CEAs) that have "...achieved executive visibility within their clients' organizations and, as a result, enjoy deeper and far more strategic relationships with them. We expect Ansira...to lead the charge in this area."
Ansira sets itself apart by fusing data from the full range of consumer touch points to empower better marketing investment decisions across channels, more effective communication plans and stronger bottom-line results for clients. Today's marketers are inundated with data about their customer's opinions, actions, and intentions. The challenge has been how to use this data to drive marketing activity that leads to real bottom line impact. Leveraging the Alteryx platform, Ansira brings together data from a wide variety of sources (including social media, loyalty programs, and transactional data) to understand what really drives customer-buying behavior. This analysis delivers hyper-local and personal marketing strategies that ultimately improve Ansira's client business results.
"Alteryx brings value to the customer engagement approach through its Big Data analytics and predictive analytics capabilities, providing companies like Ansira with a way to humanize the data and make faster, more strategic decisions," said Paul Evans, senior vice president of Channel Sales and Strategic Alliances, Alteryx. "Ansira customers can leverage Alteryx technology to actually understand and drive their marketing performance."
"Our clients want to see concrete results from their customer engagement investments," said Michael Harrison, executive vice president and chief strategy officer, Ansira. "By partnering with Alteryx, we're able to use a single platform to offer our customers strategic insight that cuts through the massive amounts of data available to provide what matters most - clear, actionable insights into what delivers bottom line results from today's highly fragmented, individualized marketing mix."
Recently, Ansira was presented with the opportunity to help a client facing the challenge of high brand switching, low loyalty, and high impulse decision making among customers. The marketing solution was made more difficult because the company's direct marketing investment was highly fragmented at the local level. Using the powerful data insight of Alteryx technology, Ansira created localized marketing solutions enabling better customer intelligence and direct marketing strategies to be leveraged at the local level. The full suite of localized solutions produced significant results including the combination of localized digital tools helping to build a category-leading e-business and local paid search results exceeding 400 percent ROI.

Bronx Park Becomes 24th NYC Park Location with Free AT&T Wi-Fi
NEW YORK, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T officials today launched free AT&T Wi-Fi service at Hunts Point Riverside Park with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the New York City Parks Department. Hunts Point Riverside Park is the third Bronx park to receive the service through the "Wi-Fi in the Parks" initiative; a collaboration between AT&T and the Bloomberg Administration to provide free Wi-Fi at 26 parks locations across the five boroughs. In addition to Wi-Fi, AT&T has made major investments in the Bronx wireless network over the past year, including the addition of LTE service and 239 network upgrades.
"AT&T is committed to providing Bronx residents and all New Yorkers creative ways to stay connected whether they're at home, at work or in Hunts Point Riverside Park," said Marissa Shorenstein, President, AT&T New York. "Through our continued efforts with the Wi-Fi in the Parks Initiative and our ongoing improvements to the network, Bronx residents now have even more ways to stay in touch with friends, families and co-workers."
"I am excited about the continued growth of the 'Wi-Fi in the Parks' initiative in the Bronx, and I welcome the expansion of this program to Hunts Point Riverside Park," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. "I want to thank AT&T for its continued commitment to the Bronx and for improving the experience of our park visitors, who for the past year have been taking advantage of free Wi-Fi service at Devoe Park and Joyce Kilmer Park, and will now continue to enjoy the advantages of staying connected at another park in our borough."
"The launch of free Wi-Fi at Hunts Point Riverside Park gives Bronx residents another opportunity to take advantage of the borough's beautiful parks," said Bob Garafola, Deputy Commissioner, New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. "We're thrilled to work with AT&T to continue to connect New Yorkers in parks across all five boroughs."
"I commend AT&T, the NYC Parks Department and the Bronx Borough President for working so diligently to improve access to not only beautiful, safe and enjoyable parks, but also for ensuring that like other communities, our residents can enjoy internet access through free Wi-Fi service while at Riverside Park," said Assemblyman Marcos A. Crespo. "It is imperative that we continue to enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors, and this initiative is a great step in that direction, facilitating web searches, online reading or allowing local schools to host outdoor classes, and much more."
"I am proud to join the Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr., and AT&T to celebrate the continued growth of 'Wi-Fi in the Parks' in the Bronx," said Sen. Gustavo Rivera. "Having access to wireless Internet is an important tool for Bronxites and has already enhanced the quality of life of my constituents, while also providing new activities and uses for city parks."
In addition to launching LTE service in the Bronx, AT&T has made significant network upgrades in the borough, including a new cell site, two broadband speed upgrades, 124 capacity upgrades and 112 network connection upgrades.

Ubee Announces Next Generation Advanced Wireless Gateway
DENVER, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ubee Interactive Corp is pleased to announce the availability of our new next generation DOCSIS 3.0 advanced wireless gateway. The new Ubee DVW365(x) wireless cable gateway is one of the first on the market to implement both Full-Band Capture Diagnostics features and functionality and power amplified WiFi in a production ready device.
Full-Band Capture (FBC) is a break-through technology eliminating the traditional tuner concept associated with previous cable modem single chip SoC designs by allowing for a direct conversion of the complete 1GHz spectrum. This technology removes channel lineup limitations and provides a flexible deployment-friendly solution utilizing any channel in the downstream spectrum.
Ubee's next-generation DOCSIS 3.0 wireless gateway adds an important new diagnostics feature allowing cable operators to remotely view the entire spectrum from both their network and also on the device itself. This advanced spectrum analyzer allows for non-intrusive remote analysis of weak signals, interference, tilt and other sub-optimal performance parameters to help reduce service costs.
Additionally, Ubee's new gateways, available with and without voice integration, are benefited by having enhanced wireless capabilities in both uplink and downlink directions that have proven to increase WiFi coverage by an average of 50%.
"Our entire line of next-generation DOCSIS Wireless Gateways will not only includes a full-band capture tuner but also have the ability to execute a testing algorithm on a chosen frequency," says Maria Popo, President of Ubee Americas.
"With our new gateways, we expect a large reduction in cable operator customer service costs and equipment. When you consider technicians would not be required to carry expensive portable spectrum analyzers, additional diagnostics can be made from the network and a large reduction in WiFi related customer service calls. In turn this means our gateway pays for itself many times over" Says Daniel Smires, Ubee's Senior Vice President of Technology.
About Ubee Interactive: Ubee is a global broadband technology company providing residential and commercial wireline and wireless solutions to service providers around the world. The company develops and delivers innovative digital devices to leading operators of converged communication services through its strengths in R&D, design, manufacturing and engineering. The company's product portfolio includes data, voice, video, mobility, and portable devices with over 25 million units deployed worldwide. Ubee has offices in Europe: Amsterdam, Asia: Hsinchu, Taiwan, and The Americas: Englewood, Colorado (USA).

About Daniel Powter
Daniel Powter creates music the way most people breathe--it's simply what he does as a way of getting along. People started listening--in the tens of millions--in 2006, when Powter's song "Bad Day" became a worldwide smash, one that Billboard named the top Hot 100 song of that year.
Powter's new album, Turn on the Lights, is an effervescent set of summer-ready pop songs about life, love and what happens in between. Powter composed many of the songs at home on piano, and as a result the music began flowing more freely than it had in years.
Produced by veteran hitmaker Howard Benson (Kelly Clarkson, Gavin DeGraw, All-American Rejects) at his Bay 7 Studios in Los Angeles, Turn on the Lights catches Powter in a soulful, irresistibly uplifting mood. That's the vibe he'll continue to provide this year on the road, where Powter says he couldn't be more excited to return.
Until recently, Daniel Powter fans might've thought they knew what he was all about. With Turn on the Lights, he's got a lot more to show.

UC San Diego Master of Advanced Study Program Uses NI Platforms to Provide Professional Hands-On Embedded and Communications Experience
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TheUniversity of California, San Diego flagship Master of Advanced Study (MAS) program in Wireless and Embedded Systems, a technical executive education program catering to engineering professionals, has adopted National Instruments platforms to provide a unique hands-on experience for participants. The program, co-directed by Dr. Ryan Kastner and Dr. George Papen, offers a new cross-disciplinary education paradigm providing high-level training for professional engineers who plan to become technical leaders in the areas of signal processing, embedded computing and wireless communications.
"The Wireless Embedded Systems Program engages students in state-of-the-art engineering that will lead to the development of next-generation wireless and embedded devices," said Dr. Kastner, program co-director and professor of computer science and engineering at the Jacobs School of Engineering. "The classes are project-oriented with a focus on laboratory exercises that connect models of computation and real-world systems, which NI's platforms provide through a graphical system design approach and scalability among hardware."
The directors of the MAS program chose NI Single-Board RIO embedded microcontrollers, USRP(TM) (Universal Software Radio Peripheral) software defined radios, and NI LabVIEW system design software for model-based design of wireless, embedded and cyber-physical systems. The unified software framework and tightly integrated hardware platform delivers industry-standard equipment into the classroom to provide real-world hands-on experiences.
"NI's tools utilize tight hardware/software integration that facilitates a more comprehensive learning experience on a cohesive platform," said James Kimery, director of software defined radio and RF/Communications at National Instruments. "Our software defined radio technology leverages this integration to employ a graphical system design approach for rapid prototyping capabilities, which delivers faster time to results, or in this case, faster time to understanding concepts in wireless and embedded systems."
Students cover a broad range of topics such as FPGA-based hardware design, C programming of real-time operating systems, graphical system design for embedded systems and wireless multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications, and model-based design for cyber-physical systems using signal processing, 3D physics simulation, and Statechart programming techniques. Hardware and software donated by Xilinx Inc. and Wind River Systems, Inc. paired with the LabVIEW design environment helps participants explore embedded systems design at multiple levels of abstraction.
"Teaching practical design in embedded systems today requires convergence of a number of diverse technologies, from reprogrammable hardware to high-level programming methodologies in a single platform," said Rajesh Gupta, professor and Qualcomm endowed chair of computer science. "NI provides a flexible platform that spans the hardware and software stack, allowing students to see the enormous design and optimization possibilities."
The hands-on focus of the UC San Diego MAS program is unique, with labs, exercises, and projects designed to provide participants with experience they can immediately use in their professional careers. The two-year program is now in its second year, with more than 50 students enrolled in the first two cohorts.
"NI's industry-standard technology provides a seamless transition from the classroom to the lab," said Dr. George Papen, program co-director and professor of electrical and computer engineering at the Jacobs School of Engineering. "We are developing a program that gives students the hands-on experience needed to excel in their technical careers. The ease of use, affordable price point and technical and visualization capabilities of LabVIEW and the USRP hardware allows us to expand these labs into our undergraduate programs in the near future."
The next round of enrollment for the MAS program begins in Fall 2012.

Kymeta spins out from Intellectual Ventures after closing $12 million funding round
Company to commercialize IV's metamaterials-based satellite antenna technology
BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Intellectual Ventures (IV), the leader in the business of invention, announced today that its newest spin-out company, Kymeta(TM), has closed a $12 million funding round to develop and bring to market IV's Metamaterials Surface Antenna Technology (MSA-T). Backed by investments from Bill Gates, Liberty Global and Lux Capital, Kymeta's mTenna(TM) product line will simplify the satellite connection needed for broadband Internet on the go, anywhere in the world.
Metamaterials are artificial materials that can manipulate electromagnetic radiation in a variety of useful ways. mTenna uses this unique capability to electronically point and steer a radio signal toward a satellite. This provides a continuous broadband link between a satellite and a moving platform such as an aircraft, car or boat. Manufactured using established lithographic techniques, mTenna's metamaterials-based approach also allows it to be thinner, lighter, more efficient and less expensive than traditional antenna technology.
"Metamaterials were an early focus for IV, so the spinout of Kymeta marks an important milestone in our invention work," said Casey Tegreene, executive vice president and chief patent counsel at IV. "As groundbreaking as it is, the satellite antenna technology behind Kymeta only scratches the surface of what metamaterials can do. Thanks to nearly a decade of work with scientists like Sir John Pendry of Imperial College and Professor David Smith of Duke University, we have a portfolio of metamaterials inventions that cover a variety of industries and applications."
Kymeta is the second company to spin out of IV since the invention capital company was founded in 2000. The first, TerraPower, was created in 2008 to develop a new class of nuclear reactor. In addition to selling and licensing its extensive portfolio of IP assets, IV creates new companies like these that bring to market new products based on particularly promising inventions. The intellectual property behind these companies is invented by IV's team of more than 100 inventors and refined at IV Lab to demonstrate the technology's feasibility.
"We pride ourselves on backing truly groundbreaking companies - Kymeta's ambitious vision and unique metamaterials technology make for a perfect fit," said Josh Wolfe, co-founder and managing partner of Lux Capital. "Kymeta's 'broadband-anywhere' product focus will transform a market that's already poised for incredible growth."
In addition to mobile applications in the aerospace, transportation and maritime industries, Kymeta also plans to develop a portable satellite hotspot product for individual users. The laptop-sized antenna will open the door for high speed Internet and other satellite broadband services wherever they're needed. The device has potential benefits for news reporters in the field, emergency responders in disaster areas, or even just average consumers looking to untether from public Wi-Fi and mobile broadband signals.
"The disruptive form factor, performance and cost advantages of Kymeta's mTenna products, based on advanced metamaterials technologies, will enable users to access a wide variety of mobile, portable and fixed satellite services beyond the capabilities of existing antenna solutions," said Vern Fotheringham, Kymeta president and CEO.
Kymeta's mTenna products are currently in development at the company's Redmond, Wash. headquarters with commercial availability expected by 2015.

PhotoFinish Salon Creates New App for Hair Stylists
COLUMBIA, S.C., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- PhotoFinish Salon (http://www.photofinishsalon.com) has created a new app for hair stylists. With smartphone technology increasingly helping small businesses build relationships and strengthen customer loyalty, the new app for hair stylists and salon owners is emerging as the hottest item in the shop since the blow dryer.
The new app, called "PhotoFinish Salon Mobile" and developed by Columbia, SC hair salon owner J. Thomas Leaptrott, already has more than 3,000 users worldwide and may lead the way for new set of apps that could transform the entire $50 billion a year hair and beauty industry.
The unique mobile hair stylist app, which is available on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android, enables hairdressers and salon owners to gather and store everything from photographs, color formulations and personal client notes, to demographic information, services rendered and products used and purchased for each client. In its new version, the app is the only one of its kind to offer a proprietary back-up system and client communications tool designed specifically for the salon business. The feature, called "Client Connect," enables the user to synchronize with any Android or Apple device, send text and email reminders automatically to clients while backing up data every few minutes on the fly with no chance of data loss.
"The salon business is ideally suited for a smartphone app," says Leaptrott, a former educator and platform artist for L'Oreal and Brocato. "When you think about how much we customize what we do for each individual client, we now have a tremendous opportunity to use this technology to store everything we need to know about each client and archive our entire body of work, which is great for the client and great for the stylist. You literally can run your business in the palm of your hand," he says.
In addition, Leaptrott points out that the app is perfect for any stylist and at any level - including either rental or commission.
"We have all made moves from one salon to another and have feared we would not have access to our client records after we leave," he said, noting that about 50 percent of stylists nationwide are commission and about 50 percent are booth rental. "PhotoFinish Salon Mobile App allows stylists to manage their clients while maintaining independence and providing flexibility and security for proprietary information."
Features of the PhotoFinish Salon app include an innovative photo archive capability that builds a visual history of every client for an unlimited amount of time. With multiple photo windows per appointment, several photos can be stored along with products and processing information as well as notes such as natural level of hair, desired level and percentage of gray, hair texture, hair type, face shape, eye color, skin tone and other variables.
"When a client says, 'I really liked that cut with the fringe around the face and subtle highlights that you did for me a coupe of years ago,' the stylist can touch the client's file and scroll through the photo archive until they identify the hairstyle, cutting formula, products used along with any cutting notes that were saved from that appointment," Leaptrott says. "Clients love this attention to detail and, of course, they can't wait to tell their friends about it. It gives the stylist a real advantage in the marketplace."
Apparently, stylists who have downloaded the app agree. "The PhotoFinish Salon app is lots of fun to use and my clients are impressed with the attention to detail I now provide them with," said one stylist using PhotoFinish Salon. "This is the best app for hair on the market!"
In addition to capturing client profiles, PhotoFinish Salon Mobile App can manage calendars for booking future appointments and retrieve client contact information based on parameters such as sex, age and birthday. The app maintains email and home contacts so special promotions can be targeted to certain customer markets.
"If a stylist wants to target clients with a flat iron sale, the program can sort out the young women in the 14-30 year old range. Or, if the stylist wants to promote round brushes, they can target the 31-60 year old range and invite them to the salon after hours for a round brush party with refreshments, featuring the salon staff teaching them the tricks of round brushing," he says. "In fact, you can promote your salon in any way imaginable using this Mobile App to create real loyalty among your clients."
Another attractive feature of PhotoFinish Salon Mobile App is its affordability for any stylist. The app is available for a single purchase price of $19.99 in the iTunes store or Google Marketplace under the name "PhotoFinish Salon Mobile." The "Client Connect" feature is priced separately and can be purchased for $2.99 on a month-to-month basis or $30.99 annually.

Methodology
The 2012 Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2008 to 2011. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2008. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent--not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies--as of December 31, 2011. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2008 is $100,000; the minimum for 2011 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.'s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at http://www.inc.com/500.

Toshiba Introduces New High-Frequency Power Detection IC for Mobile Phones
Utilizes RMS Detection for Transmission Power Control in UMTS, CDMA, WCDMA and LTE Mobile Phones
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today announced the introduction of the new TCX4A01WBG, a high-frequency power detection integrated circuit (IC) that uses Root Mean Square (RMS) detection for transmission power control in mobile phones.
The small circuit area of the new chip enables high efficiency operation for power amplifiers, and extends battery life - a key concern in the design of today's mobile phones. Toshiba's TCX4A01WBG features an ultra-small package (WCSP4), operating with only a coupling capacitor and a bypass capacitor.
The new power detection IC from Toshiba can extract a high accuracy detection voltage from even the most complex transmission signals - such as those used for 3G or newer phones - and is also suitable for PA power control. Additionally, the chip gives greater freedom in circuit design, which is especially important at a time when multiple bands and complex transmission signals are present due to an increase in data communication demands.
"Today's mobile phones require high-frequency power detection with a small circuit area. The ability to achieve a long battery life is one of the most pressing issues in the design of mobile phones, and has become a consumer expectation," noted Talayeh Saderi, business development engineer for TAEC. "Because the power amplifier consumes considerable power in a mobile phone, having control for the power amplifier is essential."
Features include:
-- Extracts a high-accuracy detection voltage from even complex modulation
signals
-- Uses Root Mean Square (RMS) detection
-- Single-power operation in the 2.5 to 3.3 V range
-- Low power consumption of 0.95 mW (typ.)
-- Ultra-small package WCSP (0.79 mm x 0.79 mm x 0.5 mm)
-- A small number of peripheral circuit parts: operates with only a
coupling capacitor and a bypass capacitor
-- Suitable for UMTS, CDMA, WCDMA and LTE mobile phone technologies

Intrexx Offers the First Programming-free Generic Adapter for SAP NetWeaver Gateway
LONDON, August 21, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
United Planet (http://www.unitedplanet.com), one of the leading developers of
enterprise portal software in Europe, has introduced the first programming-free generic
adapter for SAP NetWeaver Gateway. The new Intrexx Business Adapter uses the Open Data
protocol (OData) to enable organisations to quickly and easily integrate their SAP data
into powerful web applications or to make it available to employees via any mobile device,
with no need for programming.
Axel Wessendorf, managing director of United Planet, explains: "The new Adapter will
enable businesses to access SAP data and documents - from product images and order
confirmations to invoices - in an extremely cost-effective manner. And thanks to the use
of OData, integrating SAP data into a web application is now as simple as adding a
database."
The Intrexx Business Adapter for SAP NetWeaver Gateway integrates SAP data and
documents in three simple steps: select the service to be accessed, build the application
with the Intrexx visual designer using ready-made components, and then select the required
service functionality (e.g. read data, edit, delete). Mobile Apps for iPhone, iPad,
BlackBerry, Android and other systems can also be created quickly and easily.
Gateway Content Services may be operated both on the SAP NetWeaver Server and directly
on an SAP Backend System and, in both instances, they enable the generation of REST Web
Services in accordance with OData. Web Services can be created using BAPIs, RFCs or even
Dynpro, or they can be developed using ABAP Objects.
A video highlighting the benefits of the Intrexx Business Adapter for SAP NetWeaver
Gateway that was shown at this year's SAPPHIRE NOW in Orlando can be viewed here: http://www.intrexx.com/en/videos/odata-sapphire-2012
The new adapter enhances the existing Intrexx Adapter for SAP Business Suite
(http://www.intrexx.com/en/business-adapters/sap-business-suite) which provides access
to all SAP data via RFC. A new Intrexx Adapter for OData enables businesses to quickly and
simply integrate data from all software systems and Internet services based on OData into
an enterprise portal and to make them available to mobile users.
SearchCatalyst Helps SMEs Save Money on PPC Campaigns
LONDON, August 21, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
SearchCatalyst advises SMEs to spend a little to save a lot in the long term
on their PPC campaigns
Many SMEs believe managing PPC campaigns in house will save money, but SearchCatalyst
begs to differ. SearchCatalyst is an agency catering specifically to SMEs. It was created
by search marketing agency Greenlight and builds upon Europe's largest independent
agency's skills and achievements. By focusing 100% on small and medium sized companies it
can match small budgets with outstanding PPC results, proving in house doesn't necessarily
mean lower costs.
One of the biggest stumbling blocks for any SME running its own PPC campaign is
management. Most SMEs can start up their own PPC campaign, but many fail to monitor and
nurture it and, where necessary, nurse it back to good health. Money is therefore wasted
through a complete lack of or miss-management.
There are two ways SearchCatalyst can help. For companies with an already-established
PPC campaign, but one that is failing to deliver, SearchCatalyst can perform a PPC audit
[http://www.searchcatalyst.co.uk/ppc-packages/ppc-audit ], a kind of health check for
pay-per-click. They offer campaign analysis, performance reviews, analytics integration
and strategy recommendations. But an Advanced package also includes tracking analysis,
which is particularly useful for companies looking to track online sales from PPC
campaigns.
PPC starter packs are for companies wanting to start a PPC campaign but don't know
where to begin. Prices start from around GBP750 depending on the size and scope of the
campaign.
SearchCatalyst offer ongoing management and optimisation along with set up and
strategy. The set up fee starts from GBP750 for each with the monthly charge varying on a
monthly basis, again depending on the size and scope of the project.
SearchCatalyst's Custom search packages are available for companies that don't like to
be confined to tick boxes and pre-determined characteristics and criteria. In fact with
custom packages, the only pre-determined characteristic is business size; with
SearchCatalyst the company has to be an SME.

Ricoh unveils high-speed office MFPs with innovative parts made from 100% recycled steel
Powerful, cost-effective devices with next-generation features are perfect for high-volume offices, corporate print centers and school systems
WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled the Ricoh MP 6002/ MP 7502/ MP 9002 series of office multifunction products (MFPs) offering speeds of 60, 75 and 90 pages per minute as well as advanced printing, copying, scanning, faxing and distribution capabilities targeting customers' most pressing business needs.
These new MFPs offer advanced, state-of-the-art capabilities: First, they encompass Ricoh's powerful new technology platform to dramatically improve enterprise information input, processing and output. Second, they deliver on Ricoh's sustainability promise, becoming the world's first office imaging products specifying a new kind of eco-friendly steel.
New MFP features
The next-generation features present significant new capabilities for organizations faced with the challenge of better managing a growing volume of information. The MP 6002/ MP 7502/ MP 9002 series seamlessly interfaces with the Web, cloud services and a wide range of applications that help improve efficiency and productivity. A powerful new full-color, touchscreen user interface offers easy customization for each department, workgroup or user's workflow. The Web browser enables printing from the Web and access to cloud services for document management. The new devices also offer wireless printing capabilities from mobile devices and convenient walk-up service for users with a USB memory or SD card.
A new eco-friendly indicator shows "Total Print Pages" and "Paper Saving Ratio (%)" with "Duplex and Combined Print Ratio (%)." To keep information private and protected, the new MFPs include a variety of secure technologies, including HDD encryption, data overwrite, support of the Adobe PDF/A format and ISO15408 common criteria certification - important for government and the financial industry.
These new models offer enhanced capabilities that chip away at total cost of ownership. Now, six MFPs can share a single fax line, with inbound faxes automatically forwarded to email addresses, network folders or the hard drives of any networked MFP. Previously, every fax device needed its own transmission line.
Recycled steel
The new recycled steel sheets, developed by Ricoh Company, Ltd. and partner Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co. Ltd., are made in electric furnaces entirely from scrap, but for the first time display the essential mechanical properties of traditional virgin steel sheets made in blast furnaces. These properties include appealing surface characteristics, formability, workability and conductivity.
"Our new 100-percent recycled steel from scrap is one of Ricoh's principal initiatives aimed at reducing the additional use of resources by 25 percent by fiscal 2020 and by 87.5 percent by 2050 from the 2007 baseline," said Ike Kakegawa, Vice President, Environmental Sustainability and Product Health/Safety/Accessibility, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "It also reclaims an already-used resource and adds value to it for new applications. Japan has a surplus of this resource and ships it overseas."
To preserve virgin resources, Ricoh also downsizes products when possible, develops renewable resources like biomass plastic and recycles aggressively.
About electric-furnace steel
Steel sheets made in electric furnaces have mostly been used as a construction material with an emphasis on strength. The joint development undertaken by Ricoh and Tokyo Steel has succeeded in ensuring the quality and features required for office equipment use, including thinness (a thickness of 2mm or less), electrical conductivity and processability, enabling their use in office equipment. For more information, read the news release and article.
The new MFPs are available now. The Ricoh MP 6002 has an MSRP of $20,000; the MP 6002SP, $24,500; the MP 7502, $26,500; the MP 7502SP, $31,000; the MP 9002, $34,500; and the MP 9002SP, $39,000.

Alcatel-Lucent Gives First-response Emergency Personnel Mobile Access to Multiple Video Feeds Using Lightning-fast 4G LTE
New 'First Responder Video' solution provides mission-critical information on handheld devices to fire, police and ambulance services to strengthen responsiveness, safety, teamwork and cost efficiency
PARIS, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is to provide first-response emergency teams the ability to view and rapidly share multiple video and data feeds simultaneously on mobile devices.
For the first time, fire, ambulance and police teams will be able to share critical emergency situation information with operation controllers via video and data streams - thanks to Alcatel-Lucent's First Responder Video solution. Building on Bell Labs research in multimedia and cloud, the First Responder Video utilizes 4G LTE mobile broadband networks to convey real-time video and information rapidly and cost-efficiently.
As urban populations continue to grow, adding new pressures to first responders as well as extra budgetary challenges, public or privately owned 4G LTE networks have become highly viable in delivering video and data capabilities to emergency services. Teamwork and safety can be improved, as LTE communication offers improved 'situational awareness' in responding to an event.
However, greater urbanization also means more people in an urban environment using smartphones and other high-bandwidth devices and applications, stretching the capacity of a mobile broadband network. Alcatel-Lucent's First Responder Video solves this issue by optimizing bandwidth use and integrating multiple video feeds and other operational data into one single stream to transmit to situation commanders. This enables the fast delivery of bandwidth-hungry video and data among teams, allowing them to intelligently assess and respond to a situation more effectively, without compromising the overall delivery speed or quality of the LTE network.
Philippe Agard, Vice President of Public Safety, Alcatel-Lucent said: "Alcatel-Lucent's First Responder Video capitalizes on our leading capabilities and expertise in mobile broadband solutions to deliver real efficiencies for public safety agencies. The solution has seen great results in a live end-to-end trial with the Policia Militar do Estado de Sao Paulo, Brazil, allowing teams to be sent views from in-car cameras. Easy-to-use screens enhance operations in the toughest environments and the ability to maximize available bandwidth to share multiple high-quality video images on a variety of mobile devices maximizes cost of ownership at a time when budgets are being stretched."
First Responder Video employs a 'thin client' strategy, which ensures that data processing takes place at the powerful control centers to free up the device itself to focus on receiving and sending images and data. It works seamlessly with existing control center dispatch applications and allows teams to send video and data to many different types of 'smart' mobile devices at the same time. This gives agencies the freedom to adopt a mobile device suitable to them or use existing compatible devices to maximize investments.
Teams can adjust the number of video and data views as well as the screen layout, so information is delivered in a way that is appropriate to the situation as well as meaningful in relation to the size of the device. SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Rullingnet Corporation, home to VINCI Early Learning Systems, announced today the release of its new pocket-sized VINCI Tab II M. The latest 5-inch touchscreen tablet priced at $169.99 is available at a lower price point than the original VINCI Tab II and is designed for portability and convenience for users on the go. While in Child Mode, VINCI Tab II M presents children with a learning experience akin to the 7-inch wireless-enabled VINCI Tab II. Powered by the world's first developmentally-designed digital learning VINCI Curriculum, VINCI Tab II M provides a step-by-step learning structure to help parents prepare children for school success. Used in Parent Mode, VINCI Tab II M allows adults to access the Internet and take advantage of standard Android features.
VINCI Tab II M is preloaded with six free sample apps from VINCI Curriculum, three interactive storybooks and the award-winning Baby Haha's Music Video Adventures. Users can obtain additional learning apps by purchasing complete Curriculum MicroSD packages or downloading content from VINCI Kids Library. The Library creates a unique and safe digital learning environment for children - free from commercials, violence, adult content, and addictive in-app purchases.
Taking collaborative play to new heights, VINCI Tab II M tablets can also be networked together for children to play in groups. Children can share their learning experience with friends and family by networking up to four VINCI Tab II M tablets to play games, build puzzles and enjoy social interaction with friends and family.
"VINCI Tab II M uses revolutionary networking technologies to assist children in building their collaborative and social skills by practicing with their peers and family members," said VINCI creator and CEO Dr. Dan Yang. "The portability of the new tablet also affords children and adults the convenience of using VINCI Tab II M wherever life takes them."
VINCI Tab was created as a new category of fun learning tools with the goal to engage, empower and educate children. By using a scaffolding teaching method designed by developmental psychologists, parents encourage the children to participate in constructive play and promote early learning. Unlike any other electronic toy or tablet, VINCI grows with the child by offering VINCI Curriculum, a step-by-step learning structure comprised of 43 learning subjects and 3 levels of assessment that cover all 6 aspects of a child's developing mind: Thinking Skills; Emotional & Social Skills; Language & Literacy; Math & Logical Reasoning; General Knowledge; and Science. http://www.vincigenius.com; https://twitter.com/#!/search/VINCIGenius; https://www.facebook.com/vincigenius;http://pinterest.com/vincigenius/
Jaspersoft Delivers Hadoop Business Intelligence Training for Big Data University
Jaspersoft chosen to provide Hadoop reporting and analytics certification through Big Data University
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Jaspersoft, maker of the world's most widely used business intelligence (BI) software, today announced it will offer free training on BI for Hadoop through Big Data University, an online on-demand educational site established by IBM that delivers free and fee-based Hadoop and big data training courses. Jaspersoft training for Big Data University will enable companies to quickly and easily gain the reporting and analytics skills they need to better understand big data and improve business performance.
IBM created the online Big Data University as a vendor-neutral site to assist companies in getting the big data skills they needto manage and analyze large and complex data. While big data technologies like Hadoop are available to store and manage large data sets, many enterprises lack the necessary skills to fully use them, resulting in impediments to adoption. Big data management requires more than Hadoop skills, and the university offers additional courses in analytics, database and data integration.
As a recognized leader in BI for Big Data and Hadoop, Jaspersoft is contributing its BI resources to the Big Data community for easy and affordable certification. The first Jaspersoft training module to be offered is "Hadoop Reporting and Analysis," and is available now. Additional BI for Hadoop training modules will be available in the coming months.
"As an open source company, Jaspersoft understands the importance of helping the Hadoop community and we are delighted to offer free business intelligence training," said Karl Van den Bergh, Vice President of Technology and Alliances at Jaspersoft. "After completing this free Big Data University training, even more people can realize fast insights from their data through our industry-leading suite that provides easy reporting, analytics, and dashboards."
"Big Data University has over 33,000 students gaining big data technology skills and enrollment is expected to grow," said Leon Katsnelson, Big Data University Community Leader at IBM. "With thousands of job openings for data scientists in the United States alone, there has never been a better time for students, startups and IT professionals to enroll."
BigDataUniversity.com is an online educational web site and community, which includes many IBMers contributing to the development of courses, including hands-on labs that students take in the cloud. Students that pass these courses can become certified with Big Data University, and they can print out a certificate demonstrating course completion.
